  1. I liked the pick in philosophy. The team needed a third running back. Yeah no need to waste a pick in the first four rounds BUT grabbing a back in the early 5th makes a lot of sense. Freddy is older and might not last the season, Spiller isn't a guy you can pound the ball 20+ times to. Having another body to split the load with Freddie or Spiller if one of them gets hurt is a good thing especially considering where they picked him up.
  2. Well lets find that boy and give him the luckiest boy in the world medal. South Park is awesome.
  3. Its hard not to give up on a player that has given you zero in two season when he was drafted 11th overall. BUT Maybin was drafted when this team was running a Tampa 2 4-3. Granted he showed nothing in that 1st season but he was just too small for an NFL 4-3. Then the team switched to a 3-4 where Maybin's lack of size could be compensated for as a OLB. BUT Maybin never played in a 3-4 or as a OLB. So the guy didn't preform in a system he never played in and at a position that he never played at. It wasn't exactly a perfect fit (Throw in that news about his son as well that couldn't have helped). Now I am not very hopeful in Aaron Maybin but the guy does deserve a shot to make the team in 2011. If he shows up to camp in shape and motivated you have to allow the guy a chance. In the end the guy might still have something. He is very young and maybe might still turn up aces for the Bills. Although I doubt it.
  4. I take the hiring of Wannstedt as a positive sign that Nix and Gailey didn't think Edwards was quite ready for the task of running an NFL D. Wannstedt is a veteran defensive mind who had success running multiple NFL defenses (Cowboys and Dolphins had a lot of success under him defensively) its not hard to see him as the "Real" defensive coordinator while Edwards learns to run a D under him for 2-3 years. Wannstedt's presence as well as a year running the system (For both the players and Edwards) should help the D. Along with the draft additions its not hard to see substantial improvement from the defense at all. As I said not going to be a top 10 running D but its easy to see the team finishing in the 22-18 range. Which doesn't sound good but its a good improvement from 32.
  5. Maybe I should have clarified that. Moats was the only free agent or draftee that actually made some sort of an impact on the defense. Yeah he had gaffs but he was a rookie. He was the only player not named Kyle Williams that actually put some pressure on the QB in the last 7 games of the season. Yeah his run D wasn't that good but he did bring something and considering his draft position what he brought was pretty good. All in all my point was the only real help we got from last seasons off-season acquisitions was a 6th round pick that got some pressure on the QB towards the end of the season. Was he some sort of great impact player no BUT there was some sort of minimal impact in the pass rushing department and in the fact that he stayed healthy.
  6. I don't think that Buffalo could work as a college town. Even if all those plans went through would University of Buffalo see the surge in attendance and tuition in order to pump that money back into the Buffalo economy. I think that rather than pumping money into a university the state and city should look into attracting private self sustaining enterprise into the city of Buffalo and Western NY in general. Tax incentives as well as other methods might be more effective than trying to get a ton of public funding from a bankrupt state legislator.
  7. Hopefully the Bills off field commendatory results in on field wins. Tim is right its easy to root for these guys.
  8. We had a terrible 4-3 run D, we tried to shoehorn into a 3-4 D. To help this transition we drafted 2 rookies in round 2 and 3 who didn't quite make an impact. We signed a couple of veteran free agents in Andra Davis and Dwan Edwards both of who got hurt. Moats was the only player added that actually helped the D. Throw in the fact that this team was changing systems which has growing pains in its first year for most teams and yeah it wasn't looking good. Kyle Williams was a stud. Poz was OK when he was on the field. While Moats was the only player who played well. Other than that the team had talent that either wasn't right in the system or got hurt or was old. Stroud terrible, Kelsay sub par 4-3 player terrible 3-4 player, Carrington and Troup failed to make an impact (Although they did a little towards the end), Spencer Johnson not in the right scheme, McCargo and Maybin sucked in a 4-3 and they sucked in a 3-4, Andra Davis was old and hurt, Akin Ayodele was mediocre, and Dwan Edwards and Poz were hurt. When you dissect it piece by piece the D was a Tampa 2 soft D with a Very good DT trying to transition to a 3-4 poorly. Now hopefully Dareus makes an impact and controls the edge. Sheppard can play competent at MLB, Troup and Carrington add depth to the D-line, Merriman stays somewhat healthy and provides an impact, Moats progresses, and Nix finds some quality depth pieces in free agency. I don't think we will be a good run D but it will be improved ranking somewhere between 22-18. I think we just don't have the LB's quite yet.
  9. Fitz and Palmer are about the same at this point in both of their careers. Fitz is the starter Palmer doesn't want to be a backup at this point in his career. Its not worth it there is much better options at backup QB.
  10. Steroids or HGH I find it hard to believe he is doing it naturally. People claimed Clemens had an epic work out regimen that led to his late career surge but it was clear that he was juicing.
  11. I love the dareus pick this is just icing on the cake. Bills had the worst run defense and they took the best run defender.
  12. Trumps fiscal situation always seems a little unstable but if he was a big minority backer of jim kellys bid that would be cool. I also don't think trump has a billion dollars in liquidity to invest either.
  13. Sounds about right although I think that Aaron Williams will be the Dime or Nickel back and Wilson will start at SS. Byrd needs a SS with experience next to him (Converted from Corner to FS than converted from Tampa 2 to 3-4 a lot of change the last 2 seasons). Wilson seems to up Byrds game. Florence will also the the Starting Corner instead of McGee (Who will play Nickel) if Florence is resigned. Also that's the lineup for the start of the season. The last month of the season who the hell knows Merriman won't last the year and Poz will miss 2-4 games minimum. Dwan Edwards is also hurt a lot and McGee gets banged up.
  14. Let the experts think what they want (Its hard to be angry being ranked 28 instead of 24 they are both bad rankings) let the Bills prove them wrong on the field. This ain't college your ranking doesn't matter at all. Defense still very much a work in progress. BUT lets hope that there is progress. Dareus and Williams on the D-line should help. Hopefully Sheppard and Williams help out the D as well. Than you would think the D would get better by being in the second year of the system AND hopefully Troup, Moats, and Carrington progress. Also Merriman is a crap shoot who might workout even for a little while. Its not a perfect D you can't fill all needs at once BUT it will be better (How can't it be) how much better who knows.
  15. Yes drafting defense makes sense. The quicker you get the other teams offense off the field the more chances your offense can get on the field.
  16. Soul Plane just watch the Boondocks
  17. No the Commish acts as a proxy for the owners. The owners and the owners alone vote him into power. Basically he is a extension of ownership.
  18. Its not surprising. BUT most QB's aren't good with pressure. Any QB needs time to be effective put Brady or Manning on his ass a lot of the time and see how effective he will be. If the cast around Fitz was better I think his numbers under pressure would be better BUT they still would be below average. Still think Fitz can take this team to success. Watch him run the offense and watch him elevate the teams play. No one is saying Fitz can be a franchise guy BUT that doesn't mean he isn't a starting caliber QB either.
  19. Its somewhere in between. They have a right to pursue a sport that they are elite talent at. BUT its a privilege to make that much money at any profession. Its weird because Rodger Goodell shouldn't have the ability to say Mexicans can't play in the league but there should be a code of conduct that the league should be able to enforce.
  20. This isn't a battle between left or right. God why does everyone want every issue to be a battle of that? OK the NFL having a capped system with rules on player movement isn't some socialist system. Revenue sharing also isn't some sort of leftist plot. Nor is the players wanting to be independent contractors some sort of right wing libertarian plot. The teams in the NFL aren't competing against each other. They are competing against other forms of entertainment like the MLB, NBA, NHL, UFC, WWE, and Boxing. They are making rules and crafting a system that helps them to compete in a free market by insuring the health of the league. When the whole league is healthy it makes it much more competitive up against other leagues, brands, and companies. (And if you don't believe me that was Rush Limbaugh's take when asked if buying the Rams was buying into a socialist system). The players are claiming independent status as a means to end the lockout. The owners are trying to claim that is BS in order to protect the lockout and their investment. Its hard to side with either side. Rather than hash this out without scumbag lawyers they decide to take it to court. Its a sad day when two sides would rather kill the golden goose than compromise.
  21. Always love Anchor Man for its quotability.
  22. Turnovers always key 2008 Dolphins won 11 games by not turning the ball over. You almost always need a positive turnover ratio if you are going to make the playoffs.
  23. Some will some won't it couldn't hurt to go out in free agency and get a few veteran LB's. A guy like Steven Cooper is a good guy to get. He can teach the 3-4 scheme to the young guys and provide depth.
  24. I think that the draft was dam good. You can't address every need especially considering we were missing a lot of linebackers. We had a lot of needs draft filled a lot of them but not all of them. Still think that there needs to be another MLB and OLB picked up even if they are just back ups. If Poz is brought back look at the LB core Poz and Merriman are hurt all the time Kelsay very average pass rusher and run defender and a huge liability in pass defense Andra Davis old and recently injury prone. Sheppard just a rookie Moats most reliable but still who knows what he will develop into Batten late round round pick from last year can't really count on him. Chris White a six round draft pick can't bank on him That's everyone except Moats and Sheppard that isn't a late round pick or have sever injury issues. I think that in free agency there is value into getting a couple of linebackers as depth. No need for big names just guys that can step in and do a decent job when players get hurt.
  25. Dareus helps to control the edge while Kyle Stuffs the middle. While hopefully Carrington takes a step up or Dwan Edwards stays healthy to round out the D-line. Big worry with me is the LB core. Even if Poz is back there are a ton of questions. Andra Davis can't hold up over a season and is a liability in the pass game, Sheppard is just a rookie, Merriman is injured all the time, and Moats might not take that next step. This team needs to stock up on LB's in free agency as well as resign Poz.
