Rewatching the ravens game tonight
billsfan89 replied to John from Riverside's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Rewatching that game and the Ravens won the game by being better along the line of scrimmage. The Raven's blitzing schemes confused the Bills o-line and led to Josh being constantly under pressure while the Ravens offensive line wore down the Bills D-line slowly and efficiently. The Bills played a disciplined game and particularly on defense held the team in there. But without better O-line play and more help in the receiving game things wouldn't have been any better regardless of offensive scheme. -
Bills vs Browns last year
billsfan89 replied to John from Riverside's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The Browns talent level was good but their coaching was poor. Ultimately the Bills ran into a bad matchup on the road and lost a close game. I think had the game been in Buffalo the team would have pulled it out. In games this tight being away could make the difference. The Bills didn't come out flat (like they did in the Philly game) but they didn't come out sharpe either. And against a decent team away that's going to result in a tight game and ultimately the team lost on a kick. -
The Draft is a total crap shoot...
billsfan89 replied to Inigo Montoya's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
File that under duh. The draft is mostly about coaching communicating to the scouting department what they look for to fit into their system and the scouting department communicating to the coaching staffs the fit of players in the system and their character concerns if any. Even then things are always a crap shoot. -
Tre is a must keep, he is an elite part of an elite defense. If Josh can improve he will also be a key component like any QB. Looking at the rest of the 2017 and 2018 draft classes you have 4 other players who could be up for extension. Dawkins, Milano, Edumonds, and possibly H.Phillips (And possibly T.Johnson and Levi Wallace too but factoring out them for now.) Of those four I would say Dawkins and Edumonds are the top two to keep BUT given that Milano is up before Edumonds I think you are better off keeping Dawkins and Milano on reasonable deals (not overpays but market value) to try and maximize the window to win in 2021 and 2022 when Edumonds will still be on the last year of his rookie deal and 5th year option. Then again I could easily see Beane retaining all critical talent on market level deals since as extensions for Tre, Dawkins and Milano are doable as the cap is not a crunch in 2021. Then as Edumonds, H.Phillips, Allen and others become free agents down the line in 2022 the Bills veteran contracts on the team expire or are easy to get out of. Poyer, Brown, Beasley, Star, Hughes, Mitch, Butler, and several others expire or could be cut after 2021 to make room for extensions. Yes some draft picks will have to be used to replace talent and they might have to let 1-2 players walk after their rookie deals but I think overall the Bills will be able to keep most if not all of their free agents.

Owners to vote on Extending EA exclusive License

Madden was a lot better when they had competition. I remember Madden 05 was a very good game going up against 2k5. Sadly once the competition ran dry EA got lazy. -
How do you see the right side of the OL?
billsfan89 replied to njbuff's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I thought Feliciano was mostly solid last season. His play to me ranged from average to good last season. The metrics support that. He gave up 4 sacks which for the 950 snaps he played is decent, he took 5 penalties which again is decent, and his run blocking was rated good while his pressure stats were mid level. I think another year of chemistry and communication in the scheme will only help him. -

billsfan89 replied to njbuff's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Ford's play improved significantly after Ty got hurt and Feliciano's play ranged from average to good all season. I think the intent is to have all 5 starters come back and form a sense of continuity. I think McBeane's philosophy is to emulate the late 2000's early 2010's Giants. By having a line with some elite talent but is mainly bolstered by not having any weak links and an extreme sense of continuity. I think if Ford improved the Bill's will have an oline with no below average starters who have played together for a full season. -
I caught a few XFL games from this 2.0 version and while it had some gimmicky things I really enjoyed it for what it was. The failure was sadly actually out of their control as Covid made the league fiscally improbable to operate. I think this is a very corporate shark type move by McMahon to basically use bankruptcy protections to wipe any major liabilities from the league's books and then restart it having all the assets. Although I hope no one gets ***** over (They most certainly will) I hope McMahon is able to restart the league and be successful. The XFL 2.0 was fun and interesting and not in a gimmicky way. The XFL would have definitely had a chance to be successful. They just needed a decent paying TV deal after their current "try out" deal, and with the ratings they were pulling they could have gotten one.

Make it a 4th and 20 and I think this rule works, inside kicks are no longer feasible.

Dallas 175 million 5 year offer to Prescott

I will take 30 million over 3 years to be a backup, the Alex Moran plan. Don't get hit in practice or the game. -

I would guess depending on the cap after 2021 it would be 225-250. -
NFL testing helmet masks?
billsfan89 replied to Hapless Bills Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Would you fix your foundation or trust a building inspector? Are you saying that infectious disease is something so simple that you and your Google skills are equal to years of education and research? Had we actually listened to these "Experts" years ago we would have shut down the wet markets as they were predicted (by these same experts you doubt have any expertise compared to your Google skills) this wouldn't have happened. -
NFL testing helmet masks?
billsfan89 replied to Hapless Bills Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
If you hire a building inspector to assess the foundation of your home do you trust your Google skills or the "Expert" (not sure why you put expert in quotations, are there not doctors that study infectious diseases and that have been writing books and sounding the alarm on this situation years ahead of time.) It is one thing if you wanted to bring in a second opinion from another more or equally qualified person but to say that your opinion on a matter carries as much weight as a specialist in the field is as silly as the aforementioned analogy. That's the tricky thing about this. Players and training/coaching/team staff is going to have to assume risks as there just isn't much we can do. -
NFL testing helmet masks?
billsfan89 replied to Hapless Bills Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I honestly don’t see how the NFL can play football and not risk player to player transmission. Given the high contact nature of the sport there just doesn’t seem to be anyway beyond consistent testing that you could do to limit the players exposure to the virus. I think you just have to let players assume the risk themselves and test them at every turn to avoid a huge spread. -

The Bills aren't built with a lot of top end talent. Besides Tre, Diggs, and possibly Edumonds/Allen/Oliver there isn't a lot of top end talent. The Bills roster is instead built to be solid all around and deep to withstand the rigors of an NFL season. Yes there are a lot of good players on the roster BUT the roster isn't going to have 4-5 All-Pros and 10+ Pro Bowlers most likely. But where is the glaring weakness on the roster? Allen has 3 good WR's to throw to and an up and coming TE and a veteran TE as well as Singletary and Yeldon out the backfield. Singletary and Moss are a good RB combo. The O-line so many on here B word about returns 5 starters, has 4 good players on the bench and has 5 starters who are solid. The defense is a good unit on all level and the ST unit which was decent last season added 2 quality specialists and a kicker. McBeane added depth and younger players via the draft and overall created a team that can win 11+ games and grow a young QB. -
A Compilation of Some of Josh's Bad? Throws
billsfan89 replied to JESSEFEFFER's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think Josh focused a lot on his short and intermediate range passing by taking some off of the ball in that range and improving his touch and footwork. While that worked (Josh was way more accurate in his short and intermediate passing) I think it threw off the calibration of his longer range throws. My hope is Josh continues to polish up that short and mid-range game of his but that he rediscovers the touch and calibration on his deep ball. Because in 2018 he was much more accurate on his deep ball. -

I think by the end of 2020 we are going to see Diggs, White and Edumonds on everyone's top 100 lists (if they are healthy) I also think Ed Oliver and Josh have a crack at it. -
She is hot for a mainline sports reporter for sure (not as much for a sideline reporter.) But in general is she hot? I guess that's a relative term. I would say she is attractive but I could see someone not being that into her? Yes, and that would be fair. But let's be honest not too many straight men are saying no to her.

Can Stefon Diggs Emerge as a Superstar in Buffalo?
billsfan89 replied to jletha's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The Bills should be able to contend the rest of Josh's rookie deal. But beyond the next 2-3 seasons where the team can take advantage of not paying a QB the Bills fortunes longer term (The next decade plus) are going to rest on how good Josh is (how good McBeane can draft longer term too but Josh is the lynchpin.) If Josh is a top 5 QB by 2021 then this team will be in a decade of consistent playoff appearances and contention for a long time. If Josh can't get past being a mid-level or even upper mid-level QB then the team will only contend in the short term when Josh is occupying a low percentage of the team's cap. So it all simply comes down to how good is Josh? -
I like the Jets more than most on this board but they have serious flaws on their roster to be HEAVILY favored is insane. I get picking the Jets as a dark horse team if you like Darnold and like what they did to rebuild their O-line but to heavily favor them over a much better constructed Bills team and the perennial power house Pats is insane. The Jets don't have a good receiving core, Quincy is always hurt, they lost a good receiver in Robby Anderson and replaced him with Perriman a lateral move in a best case scenario and drafted a receiver in round 2. I don't see their receiving core doing much and with a lack of an outside threat that is going to hamper Lev Bell and what that offense can do against better defenses. The Jets defense is mid-level at best, their front 7 if Mosley stays healthy is good against the run but subpar rushing the passer and their secondary is trash besides Jamal Adams. And what will sink the Jets far beyond their on field issues is Adam Gase. Gase is just not a good coach. The Jets GM did a good job of building back the O-line and keeping them from getting locked into too many more large contracts but they are a year away on the field and their coach will be a long term hinderance to their success. I actually like Darnold better at least next season. I think both QB's will be good long term but Josh is a year away from being a bonafide top 5-7 QB whereas I feel like Darnold could make a leap into the top 10 in 2020. But Darnold's team and coaching has held him back. Overall I think that 2 years from now I would be on Josh being the better QB if he can harness his abilities and continue to work hard. But in 2020 and possibly 2021 I could see Darnold being a better QB on a lesser team.

NFL Approves Rule Changes for Hirings
billsfan89 replied to DCOrange's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
No one is asking the government to mandate anything. The proposed experience requirement (which is just a suggestion from a pundit) would be the NFL (Last time I checked a private organization) having job requirements for their franchises to follow. There are many private organizations that have internal requirements for moving up, this would be no different. Stop being such a triggered snowflake. It's not discriminating based on race to have a requirement that you have an expanded interview pool. They aren't mandating any team hire anyone based on their race. -
The Athletic: Vic's Over/Under (Bills over 8.5)
billsfan89 replied to inthebuff's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
8.5 Seems low but there are some factors to consider. One is injuries, injuries can derail any season. Two is a harder schedule and one or two key injuries can take an 11 win season and lower it to 8 wins. I would personally take the over on 8.5 and I probably would have set the over under at 9.5. -
NFL Approves Rule Changes for Hirings
billsfan89 replied to DCOrange's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
All these seem reasonable. Having minority coaches and executives get interviews gives them exposure and gives the owners better familiarity with minority applicants. It isn't forcing anyone to hire anyone so I don't see the harm. As far as the assistant coach to coordinator blocking that seems more common sense. Coordinator is the highest position on a team besides coach so if an assistant coach wants a higher title they should be able to interview for it externally.
