I like that quote very much, nice one.

And after we'll most likely find something new to worry about. perhaps the stadium but more likely something from left field.

Very well said.

I have no idea, so I'll take your word for it. Certainly age was catching up with him. I had no idea it was that bad at that point. Some go on for quite a while with diminished capacities. I guess it's a good thing he didn't go before the lease was signed or during that one year bridge lease that had been publicized but thankfully was not needed.

How long do you give EJ
SRQ_BillsFan replied to Canadian Bills Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I don't think that many if any want to give him the whole 16 game season if he sucks. But that's the point, those that voted for the entire season expect that he will continue where left off at a minimum and improve. Promo had it right, if we bench Manuel after a few games to win now at all costs, how long then before we bench Orton? While Orton may look better based on the "eyeball/has it" tests his career stats are no better and his rookie stats were much worse. So who do we bring in to replace Orton and how long before he learns the playbook? Looks like we need another poll or two. -
I apologize. You are right, there is no way any of this could have happened any different than the way that it did, or is about to. Nothing else was ever a possibility. How silly of me to have an opinion.

Wasn't trying to put Ralph down. Love the man. Once the team stays love the trust. Just pointing out that we were lucky the way this all worked out on several fronts. What if TPegs never got into natural gas and Mr. G had stayed in Rochester, never bought the Sabres and stepped up. We all believed Jim and it was bad timing for him. I hope he would have had a group had it been needed. It ended up like Christmas for WNY.

Glad we don't play the Eagles then, nah I get it.

I keep saying it, Kyle Orton is NOT better than EJ. He is not the present or the future for this team. Playing him in front of EJ does nothing for this team. Orton: Career (2005-2013). Pct 58.5 Yards 15,019 TDs 83 Int 59 QBR 79. EJ: Career Pct 58.8 Yards 1,972 TDs 11 Int 9 QBR 77.7 They look pretty similar to me, why scream for an older version that most likely will not improve. EJ projects to throw more ints, but Orton was TD 9 Int 13 in his rookie year. Orton (2005) Pct 51.6% Yards 1896 TDs 9 Int 13 QBR 59.7 I just do not understand how this guys is supposed to save the franchise, while EJ ***** the bed?

If you read, I said 3-5 years and everyone thinks they have longer than they do. It's what you think when it's you. You don't want to believe you have a year or less. It's not as if i was suggesting 10 or 20. Please reread for clarity. And you are entitled to believe so. It's ready been reported there were disagreements during negotiations on the penalty. It's not far fetched to think Ralph may have given in thinking it would only matter for 4-5 years. The buyout was not that much further when he passed.
-
I think we got lucky on the lease as well. No way does Ralph sign that if he knew he was going to go that early into it. I think he figured 3-5 years more and then the team is still locked in but with a more enticing out to drive the bids up. There are just too many years on it to maximize profits and everyone always thinks they have longer. I also think that while the trust wants to keep the team here some of the onus on their part is to make sure if someone tried to move the team and it ended up in court that they want to be sure they don't get dragged in as well. I think they want the team here long term, but if a huge offer had come in that would have kept the team here through the lease, it would have been hard to turn down. We are very lucky in the way this played out and that we had local bidders.

ESPN Power Rankings/Watkins Trade
SRQ_BillsFan replied to Gabe Northern's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I don't think EJ will suck, I think he'll have a decent but not spectacular year. Just enough that we are forced to be all in on him again. While I would not have made the trade for Sammy that is why it doesn't bother me so much. I don't see them going after a QB until the next year. Even if we wanted one, I don't see our pick being high enough to go after the golden arm. -
Why wait "a little while"? Why not tell us now. What a joke this guy is, do people actually believe his dribble because it's in Forbes - so it must be true.

Perception of the Team. From an Ex Bills Fan
SRQ_BillsFan replied to Dr. Trooth's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
You guys have it all wrong by bashing him. This is obviously a Bills fan struggling with his identity. He didn't give up on the Bills, can't be done. He thinks he has, is still trying to, but is obviously reaching out for help. He needs to get off the ledge. He won't be coming back to the bandwagon because he hasn't left. Otherwise why this post along with so many others. This is a cry for help from a low point in his life. Keep up the negative posts, these are just what he needs to beat the Bills Fan in him back to the surface. No one gives up on this team, can't be done. Only claimed. We can help him through this by continuing to question his having any loyalty whatsoever. He will see the light. -
Perception of the Team. From an Ex Bills Fan
SRQ_BillsFan replied to Dr. Trooth's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I can see how he could switch his allegiance. I was born in Buffalo some 50 years ago. A Bills loss used to make me sick and unbearable to be around for the week. Now I can live with the losses and go on with my life, there have just been too many. The good news is I am sure this helped my stress level and hopefully extended my life. Given the fact that over the years I can now handle the losses when at one time I could not. Along with the fact that I moved from the area in 1979, I could see myself changing teams and calling myself an ex-Bills fans in another 5,000 +/- years. If my stress level keeps going down as the years progress, I still have NO CHANCE of ever reaching that day. Oh well, I tried to rationalize it. Once a Bills can, always a Bills fan. GO BILLS!!!! -
This years team is improved over last year on paper. There was much more optimism last year than this year. Based on the recent posts this team seems to looking at 3-13. They just aren't that bad. Here's hoping for 10-6. Go Bills!

BOLD predictions for 2014 NFL season
SRQ_BillsFan replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think the only reason Johnny football is not starting is because of the Browns 1st three opponents. It's a brutal opening schedule and believe he will start game 4. Bills will go 10-6, but that's more of a wish than a prediction. -
If you live in the market of a different NFL team...
SRQ_BillsFan replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I absolutely hate Tampa Bay, can't stand them. Almost quit going to games as it was simply no fun, only Bills games now. I even hate the stadium when I drive by and it's empty. A Mets fan but kind of like the Rays. Lower payroll team that does well. Sucks that they do so bad attendance wise while having a good team. I do enjoy listening to people that don't go from Tampa. They complain that the 30 minute drive is just too far to go. People complain about the Trop, but I don't mind it, beats the 95 degree heat with 70-80% humidity any day. I loved it when the lightning played there. Used to get seasons for $99.00 a year. The team was stocked with ex Sabers at the time. Bucs fans are the worst in the entire country and possibly the dumbest. It's way to hot to tailgate, so even that isn't fun. Basically no reason to go unless the Bills are in town. Unfortunately we often lose to them no matter how bad they are. -

Lived in Pittsburg in the early 80's hatted their obnoxious fans. Was nice when we started beating them regularly and they were down. Rooted for them when they beat Seattle to win the SUPERBOWL. Was in town and hung out at a local bar, loved the atmosphere and kind of like the team today. Moved to Columbus and hated the bengals and browns. Watched the browns beat is in the playoffs and then the icky shuffle days. Moved to Tampa in 92-93 when they were horrible. Could go and sit in the press box for free but only went twice. Couldn't stand the bandwagon fans when they won the Super Bowl. Based on conversations I had they must have had about 500,000 season ticket holders from their in first year thru the SUPERBOWL. Many of those don't care today, especially after the season nose dives. I seldom watch anyone but the Bills. Even when stuck in a hotel room on a Monday/Thursday with few channels available. Especially if I can find a hockey game. Been working in Charlotte since Feb, every sun-Thursday. Have no interest at all in panthers. There is a local sports announcer in Tampa that gets fired up about the transplants that don't convert to the local teams. The guy actually get quite pissed at people who call in to pledge allegiance to their hometown teams. He just goes off on them. I laugh and try to figure out why anyone would call when you know the outcome. He will call you names and eventually hang up, totally one sided. After that he'll talk about how dumb you were for the next 10 minutes while you are off air. I hate the guy and try not to listen cause there is only his opinion, everyone else is wrong and ignorant. -
Boy talk about lynch mobs. Did you guys watch EJ play last year? He wasn't bad. He had some very good games, had some very nice throws. He'll Jim Kelly had some bad preseasons where he did not look good. How many did he go 0-4, plenty EJ will have some good games and probably some duds. With any luck the running game and/or defense will bail him out of these. I didn't like that he started slow, hopefully that improves. When did Orton become the second coming? Sorry to burst people's bubble but he is no better than EJ. Does anyone truly believe this team goes to the Super Bowl with Orton? NO Freakin way. You guys need to relax, EJ may or may not become the franchise quarterback you want. But Kyle Orton will NEVER become that. So wanting him to start over EJ makes no sense whatsoever. He is not the present or the future. Give the ball to EJ and let him play. He will do better than most of you think because he is simply not as bad as he is being made out to be in these posts. Again he had some good games last year, he looked the part against Carolina, was playing well against the Jets. That was on a team with banged up running backs and wide receivers. EVERYONE was disappointed when he got hurt in the Jets game. Reading this thread, not only contradicts that, apparently you all wish it was career ending. But no one felt that way at the time. Preseason is over and it meant nothing, absolutely nothing. Andrew Luck didn't have the season you are demanding from EJ in his second year. But hey Kyle Orton can do it, he is the answer to our quarterback problem. jeez.

First I think they stay. It costs the Toronto guys millions to stay in this. Even if they don't get the team. They obviously feels this increases their chances. The most obvious reason is they can bid more. They must feel they have a chance or wouldn't spend the money. There should be room for little worry?

If we go 2-14 and ave 30,000 atten.
SRQ_BillsFan replied to JohninMinn.'s topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
If this were true, why did the Browns move? They had a very loyal fan base just like Buffalo. I would be willing to bet if the NFL said build a new stadium Clevland would have. They built one awful quick once the team left to get the expansion team. Why not simply give Baltimore an expansion team. And why the Colts? I'm not sure Toronto would be a lock for an expansion team if they were awarding them next year. I think the proximity to Buffalo would be an issue the NFL would want to work through. As discussed elsewhere ticket revenue is a small piece of the pie. You're already assuming Toronto would have the market to support a team. So why care about about some of the cheapest tickets in the NFL when there are more lucrative markets? Most people thought the Bills would be leaving when Ralph died. Buffalo has been very fortunate on the timing of this with the presence of TPegs and others. I don't think the Bills are leaving but if not for the timing and a little luck they certainly could have. -

Who knows how bad his ankle really was. He was obviously limping around and was caught from behind. It stands to reason if it was bothering him that using him as a receiver and running routes downfield would aggravate it more. Pain pills and shots can mask some of that, but not if he makes it worse running 20 yards downfield on a pass play. We did not have the depth at RB that we have this year. If it were to happen this year maybe they shut him down for 2-3 weeks to give it time to start to get better. Most people were certainly hoping he was going to play each week. We saw that he could be effective at times with it.
