  1. This, potentially, is the year where they go BPA. Marrone is a quality guy, not one who's gonna sit around and entertain a bunch of 2nd tier FA's or roll the dice on late round sleepers...right? Seems to me that this draft has got good quality and quantity at most of the positions, in various rounds, that are a major need. Whether it be Milliner, Warmack(sp), Jordan, Patterson, or whomever, are you really going to be upset over those guys? Personally, the only pick I would be upset about is a C, RB, or QB @ 8. RB's are a dime a dozen, always, and the talent is just not there @ QB or C (the top rated C's, none of them higher than a rd. 2 grade, are all projected to be playing G). OR...I could be totally wrong, which is more likely.
  2. Agreed. There's a guy listed as a CB that will transition to Saftey @ the NFL level, IMHO...namingly Sanders Commings, CB, out of GA. He's graded out to be a 5th rd selection @ CB, but it seems fairly obvious to me that he'll be a SS in the NFL, and a good one at that. He caught my eye in the '11 season, i forget who they were playing, but I was like "who the hell is that LB playing DB?" He's huge (in terms of DB's) @ 6' 2" 216 (jacked). He's got the necessary speed (4.41) and range (AZ Diamondbacks 2008 draft pick as an outfielder) long arms and good hands are a bonus, and he lowers the boom. RED FLAG - Missed first 2 games of Sr. Yr due to a suspension for a domestic violence arrest. Also, he's got issue with getting beat by double moves, losing the cushion, and flipping his hips...all lends to the fact that he won't be a CB up here with the big boys. I realize it's only one guy, but there's a sufficient amount of depth @ SS this year to not waste a day 1-2 pick, though I am one of the guys who thinks SS is a need this year.
  3. Man, I read this post and all I see is regurgitated negative banter. The media MUST be right about everyone they report on. Why is everyone so blind to the fact that the dude is a straight up winner, a leader and a high character guy. All he has ever done in his football career is win. So he had a bad game here and there...who doesn't? The kid deserves a shot...a real shot, not some gimmicky bs. What I see is that you are all telling me, even in the current state of the Bills' roster, he has no shot to legitimately compete...Against Kolb, T. Jackson and Aaron Corp...really? Having said all that, I would not want him in the capacity the OP states. Bring him in to the mix @ QB, why not? Please, give me something original rather than the redundancy fueled by the "pro's" in the media .
  4. Agreed...but, how realistic are we being? I'm definitely for the high character guys, but they are few and far between nowadays. Aside from the numerous other athletes that pull this sh*t and constantly get away with it. Also, how much of his antics can be attributed to being young, very rich and "bulletproof?" I think he's been knocked down a few pegs and will be on his best behavior durring his next contract.
  5. If that were true, they would have never entertained Fred Davis with an offer...Is it true we offered him more than the Redskins and he chose to stay there anyway?
  6. I have the same line of thinking, but NO doesn't have a 2 this year.
  7. You must be "pretty high." And if, by some twist of fate, you are right and they do, they're all"pretty high" too.
  8. It's hard to say anything without coming off as a total D, so sorry in advance... To put it simply, it doesn't work. With the size and athleticism of todays offensive lineman, an offense would be virtually unstoppable. Even on passing downs, as you suggested "more coverage," what's to stop an offense from emptying out the backfield, sending everyone out in patterns, waiting for everyone to be 10yds or more down field then the QB taking a stroll gaurded like the president? This has nothing to do with knowledge of defensive alignments, it's simple football.
  9. Not so sure I'd be upset with John Jenkins...dude's a beast! Branch effectively replaces Spencer Johnson (and from what I hear from a football guy that's a huge Hawks fan, we will be very happy with him). There is an * next to Kyle Williams nowadays...which stinks cuz I really like the dude, especially if he returns to 2010 form. I think Jenkins can be a true NT for many years to come.
  10. Your points are well taken, and appreciated... I'll take your word for it, but so do I...including an individual, newly hired into a position with much more clout than the scouting dpt., who is a close family friend and if you don't subscribe to the school of thought that "99% of what teams say, prior to the draft, is absolute BS," then you are much more well informed than I. Also, I'm just saying it would be a big jump to only garner 1 rd 2 or multiple later rd selections. My point, referencing San Fran, was that they are a very strong team who aren't going to wait and try to grab the sleepers in the later rounds, they will go after the studs to add to their arsenal. Just sayn'.
  11. No offense taken. Probably is a pipe dream, but that's why we're fan board posters and not NFL staff. Also, no offense, but you have no idea how any team in this league perceives any player in this draft...just think how Al Davis nearly spilled some baby batter over DHB, Aaron Maybin, et al. San Fran doesn't have many glaring weak spots and they can afford to move up and around this year to go ahead and grab anyone them may choose, especially with the talent on the DL and def backfield this year.
  12. I, for one, believe this is a perfect year to trade down (Wanted: Trade Partner). I'm thinking St. Louis, Minnesota (2 1st rounders each) or San Fran (too many picks to know what to do with). That being said, I have no problem selecting BPA at a position of need, in the 20's or @ 31. My thoughts, however naive or unprofessional they may be... KOLB IS NOT THE ANSWER, we all know that. If we don't take Barkley/Smith in the 1st, we won't have a shot at them with the teams that select b4 us in the 2nd. Jax, Oak, NYJ, Philly could all be players for a QB in the first 2 rounds. I, for one, am a fan of these two and I wouldn't want any other QB accept Jones in the 5th or 6th (if we're desperate). I am very confused as to why Patterson is getting so much more love than his more productive, equally talented and athletic, taller, just as fast teammate Justin Hunter. Fine with me if he slips out of the "top 3-5" WR's. This post could go on forever, so I'll just sum up with a mock (no Idea if I overvalued the trade back with SF, but both 2nd's and 1 of their 3rds seems fair to me): Rd 1, pick 31 (San Fran) - Matt Barkley, QB, USC Rd 2, pick 34 (San Fran) - Justin Hunter, WR, Tenn Rd 2, pick 41 - Kevin Minter, ILB, LSU Rd 2, pick 61 (San Fran) - Vance McDonald, TE, Rice Rd 3, pick 71 - Brian Schwenke, C, Cal Rd 3, pick 74 (San Fran) - Brandon Williams, DT/NT, Mizzu Southern Rd 4, pick 105 - Tyrann Mathieu, CB, *LSU Rd 5, pick 143 - Sanders Commings, CB/S, GA Rd 6, pick 177 - Dustin Hopkins, K, Fl St
  13. I would be beside myself if we would pull something like this off in real life...outside of my fantasy world. Round 1 Pick 25 (MINN): Matt Barkley, QB, Southern California (A) Round 1 Pick 26 (G.B.): Justin Hunter, WR, Tennessee (B) Round 2 Pick 9: Tyler Eifert, TE, Notre Dame (A) Round 2 Pick 23 (G.B.): Barrett Jones, C, Alabama (B+) Round 3 Pick 9: Jon Bostic, ILB, Florida (A) Round 3 Pick 21 (MINN): Tyrann Mathieu, CB, LSU (A) Round 4 Pick 8: Shamarko Thomas, SS, Syracuse (A) Round 5 Pick 10: Gavin Escobar, TE, San Diego State (A) Round 6 Pick 9: Dustin Hopkins, K, Florida State (B)
  14. I like mine better... Round 1 Pick 23 (MINN): Keenan Allen, WR, California (A-) Round 1 Pick 25 (MINN): Manti Te'o, ILB, Notre Dame (B) Round 2 Pick 9: John Jenkins, DT, Georgia (A) Round 3 Pick 9: Jonathan Cyprien, SS, Florida International (A) Round 3 Pick 21 (MINN): Ryan Nassib, QB, Syracuse (A) Round 4 Pick 8: Brian Schwenke, C, California (A) Round 5 Pick 10: Steve Williams, CB, California (A) Round 6 Pick 9: Zach Sudfeld, TE, Nevada (A)
  15. Given that i's year one of a new regime...yet another rebuild...and the fact that there are NUMEROUS holes to fill, it all makes sense. Go with what you have and plud guys in year to year. I'd like to see Williams and Dareous as 3-4 ends and maybe draft a beastly NT.
  16. Finally, someone caught it....Andy, I mean Aaron...Dohhhh
  17. I seem to remember every team in the NFL heeping praise upon Williams...I'd be willing to be that if he were to hit the open market, he'd be a day one signing. 5 sacks last year from an interior DL with a mediocre (as play indicated) supporting cast...with a partially torn Achilles in the final 10 games...yeah, he blows...like yo mamma suckaaaaaaaa. (j/k, just sayn')
  18. St. Frani's if he goes private, OP if he goes public. My wife works where all of the staff is living and that's the Pub Sch District and closest private school.
  19. "Cross your fingers!" - Dave Marrone "...it was ugly, so I put it up for adoption." - Buddy Nix "ohhhh fuuuuuuuu....dge!" - Ralphie
  20. Pretty much everything I bolded, above, screams for the need of some stop gap FA's, no? Far to many holes to fill through the draft, 2nd round cuts, UDFA's and practice squad shleps...Unfortunately, in this case, I'm with you on Harrison. He will go to a contender on a 1-2 yr value contract and he may shine at times given the stellar supporting cast around him. For the "names" on our D, they have yet to fit the definition of stellar...he would suck in Buffalo.
  21. I wanted to make everyone grab their reading glasses...lol! No idea how the font got shrunk like that. Should b fixed now, my bad!
  22. "...and the Fins having improved notably." This is th part of your post that serves as an indication that you are an "all that glitters is gold" type and you utterly fail to see that they are actually worse off. If you look at the signings, you'll see that Ireland is going all in in a last ditch effort to save his as*...and, his job. First off, they just dumped a huge amount of $$ into a one dimensional receiver who has the "dropsies" and a non-pass rushing linebacker who's not come close to proving his worth. Secondly, did you forget that they lost Sean Smith, Jake Long and Reggie Bush? Back to your post in its entirety. Pretty much hard to argue with anything you've said, yet the endless regurgitation of this stuff is almost to the point of being infuriating. I get that you're jaded, but you are at a point where you're bordering ignorance because of the track record the subsequent regimes. The OP's hope is warranted in that, so far, Marrone is following suit with his own track record. He's not throwing a bunch of $$ at band aids, by the way...Fred Davis, really? He has a style and approach that should be a refreshing change to the self-defined status quo that we've become accustomed to. Just look at what he did in 'Cuse. He inherited a program riddled with disease, cancerous individuality, and mismanagement. He blew it up, got them on the right track, won a couple of Bowl games and set something up for the new staff to build upon. I'm frustrated too, given the amount of holes that need to be filled...but, I'm willing to be patient and take a wait and see approach. Now, if we go into the draft with no one but Tavaris Jackson on our QB depth chart, I'll start to worry...a lot
  23. No worries I was counting my kids separately...or you can input food @ #5
  24. Sorry professor...delusion. I never claimed to be a spelling bee champ.
  25. ugh...typical "I know more than you" post *barf...my bad, I missed that he was a UFA
