  1. Some good defense on this drive. About 15 yds per play.
  2. This offense doesn't look like any Mike Martz offense that I've ever seen. He has had very good success as an OC in the NFL. If the Bills are using his "system" then they need a new teacher...
  3. The Bills need a LT. I'm sure that they will draft one on first day. Bell has been overmatched and he'll need at least another year or two to solidify his play, if he can. The Bills can't afford to wait and see. I would pencil in Bell as a future backup or possible RT starter, if he develops. I'd like to see what a healthy Butler can do at RT. He never had a chance due to his injury. He is injured a lot though... I think that Meredith and Scott have enough ability for one of them to be a solid backup. The starting interior is set. They need more experience playing together. There's no way to know what McKinney can do because he was injured so quickly after coming in. You'd have to figure though, that between McKinney, Simmons and Gaddis, there has to be someone who can backup at center and guard. So: 1 LT + healthy team + additional year experience = decent OL. The Bills can re-evaluate things and make any final tweaks after next season. Besides a top pick, I wouldn't blow the Bills wad on the OL. There are too many needs in other locations, like DL...
  4. Until he proves otherwise, statements like these have to make you think that Kelly knows as much about evaluating talent as Levy.
  5. No point in trading up. The Bills have so many needs... OT, DE, DT, LB, QB. Take the best available player at one of these positions. Personally, I would be looking at OL in the first round. Without better OL play, any rookie QB will be killed.
  6. Sounds a lot like Jauron's qualifications...
  7. These HC candidates leave a lot to be desired in the "proven winner" category. Billick is the only one who has won and the Ravens did that in spite of his offensive genius, not because of it. The OC candidates are all strong. I'd take any of the 4, especially Martz or Weiss. I think we should try and keep as much of our defensive staff as possible, including Fewell. The defensive coaching has been pretty good, IMO. They need a couple more players and fewer injuries...
  8. I sure hope not. He had very good talent in New Orleans and could not win with them. What's he going to do with Buffalo?!
  9. Like Martz a lot as OC. His record is solid, the only issues are personality conflicts. I wanted the Bills to bring him in as OC at the start of this season... but no... Mixed on him as HC. His track record there wasn't as strong. Better than Jauron though.
  10. You mean the same style that Green Bay uses?
  11. This is JMO, but the modern Pittsburgh style 3-4 relies on big DLs to stop the run and complex rush/blitzes from the LBs and DBs to generate pressure on the QB. It looks good against weak OLs or QBs, but I don't believe that you can rely on frequent blitzing in the playoffs against strong offenses. They will beat you for big plays. You have to be able to dominate the line of scrimmage with your base personnel and the best way to do this is to have 4 athletic big men up front. Now, Pittsburgh has won two super bowls using this defense but both Seattle and Arizona moved the ball very effectively against their defense in the Super Bowls and it was their offense that won them those games.
  12. Well, it worked out well for JJ. Two straight SBs, including the best team of all time in 1993, IMO. The 3-4 is just the current fad, like when everyone was switching to the 4-3 about 10 years ago. The Bill's problem is that they don't have a dominating DL.
  13. Exactly my thoughts on the matter. Sullivan's column is irrelevant. He provides no news or original information and all I have to do to hear people slam the Bills is read a few forums on this board.
  14. Very nice work. I love "The Champion"
  15. If I hear this again, I think I'm going to snap. What in the world makes anyone think that Maybin can plan OLB in a 3-4? His primary responsibility would be to rush the QB against the opposing tackles. The exact same thing that he is failing at now. Maybe in a 3-4 he would occasionally face a RB or TE instead, but in exchange for this he would have to cover TEs and RBs once in a while too and I am skeptical of his ability to do this.
  16. My thoughts as well, but that can be ok as long as he gets a good, established defensive coordinator and gives him the authority to make the decisions about the D.
  17. A very real possibility. I agree that the benching deserves a little more coverage than it is getting. It seems that people are too busy pulling coaching candidates out of their hat to cover the current team.
  18. Maybe if the Bills switch to a 3-4. But in a 4-3, I was always in the Jimmy Johnson camp... Dominant and deep DL + everyone fast as heck behind them.
