Let's stop the Watkins is a bust nonsense...its WRONG...
thebandit27 replied to Big Turk's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
He's not a bust by any common definition of the term as it relates to football draft picks. Busts don't accumulate 2,500 yards and 17 TDs in their first 3 seasons, despite missing 11 full games and parts of 3 others. That's what this entire thread is about: he's not a bust, and folks that say he is simply don't understand what the word "bust" means. I'm fine if you believe that, but that's not what a bust is...a bust is a guy that doesn't produce. Sammy produces at an elite clip when he's given the kind of targets that other #1 WRs are given. That's not what a bust is...a bust is a player that doesn't contribute. What you're saying is that he hasn't been worth 2 1st round picks...that's not a bust. -
Situational pass rusher (and a much needed one I might add) and ST contributor.

With the 10th pick, the Buffalo Bills select....

I'd rather see if Zach will come back relatively cheap than use a 1st on Foster. I actually do like foster significantly more than I did Ragland--he's a more complete 'backer. If I'm a team that slots 18-25 and I feel good about front 4, I'd strongly consider him. -

The terms "Sammy Watkins" and "bust" don't belong anywhere near each other. The most one could say is that he hasn't been available enough to justify the investment. And I'd agree with that. On the field, he's nothing short of elite on a per-target basis. -
HC candidate Kris Richard interviewing 1/8
thebandit27 replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I remember when Richard was a player, and I like him as a coordinator. Maybe some teams think he's another Tomlin-type, but those guys are VERY hit-or-miss IMO -
Sammy Watkins is a bust?

Russ will NOT be involved in HC hiring process

Yes, when reading the entire story it's clear what happened. And in actuality this quote doesn't matter either--people will believe what they want to believe -

But, but, but... He said "don't let him leave the building" last time... -
People aren't going to like this, but a Lynn-Bradley ticket probably means a lot of personnel turnover in the back 7. Offense probably wouldn't get as much attention IMO.
-
Agreed. They'd have significant work to do at LB though. Maybe Ragland can play MLB, but you'd probably have to bring back Zach AND find a Will--perhaps a guy like Malcolm Smith (who happens to be a FA). Unless LorAx takes leave of himself and decides to come back on a cheap deal, they're going to need another pass rusher anyway.

Because my kids are busy eating lunch, the Kraken Cider for tonight is already made, and I can't start apps until after my 1:30 training session. -

If you haven't yet read Sinek's book "Start With Why", I highly recommend doing so--really smart stuff. -
Marcell Dareus' thoughts on Rex Ryan's firing
thebandit27 replied to Wayne Arnold's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
He still played well, yes. It wasn't 100% his fault, but he had several plays where he was pushed around badly that game. Nevertheless, you and I generally agree on this one. -
Marcell Dareus' thoughts on Rex Ryan's firing
thebandit27 replied to Wayne Arnold's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I NEVER saw him quit on the field. In fact, the only time I remember him being pushed around is his year's Pittsburgh game. Suffice to say, I disagree with you on this. -
Marcell Dareus' thoughts on Rex Ryan's firing
thebandit27 replied to Wayne Arnold's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
To me, that's immature. I mean, I did that type of stuff when I was 21, and I'm not dumb. Now, that doesn't mean I never did dumb stuff...obviously -
Marcell Dareus' thoughts on Rex Ryan's firing
thebandit27 replied to Wayne Arnold's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Well, I've spoken with him more than once, so I'm basing the opinion that he's not dumb on my interactions with him. I think we need to separate lazy and overweight. He trains his tail off--he's strong as an ox--so that's not lazy to me. His eating habits are a real issue--to me, that's where selfish comes into play. Gotta think about more than your appetite and taste buds when your weight affects the team. To me, a cancer is someone that causes problems with his attitude toward teammates and coaches--by all accounts that's not him. I also get the feeling that he's not speaking exclusively (or even mostly) about himself when he says that the defense is too complicated. When he references loses Aaron as a detriment to communications, that's mostly in the back 7, so admittedly I'm reading between the lines there. I suppose some folks could call Dareus a de facto cancer because other players could resent that the highest paid player on the team isn't as committed to the game as guys like Shady etc. Like I've said, I think he's got a lot of maturing to do; he could really be one of the best players in the league if he applies himself. -

I'll give you selfish and immature. Maybe even druggie. He is nowhere near lazy, dumb, or a cancer. -

Kyle Shanahan for Head Coach. Here is why...

I agree with most of this--I do think that, in general, he does an adequate job with regard to player personnel though -
Marcell Dareus' thoughts on Rex Ryan's firing
thebandit27 replied to Wayne Arnold's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Don't take this the wrong way: if that's what you were talking about , then I have no idea why you chose my post to reply to, since my statement was that Dareus' issues and Rex's issues were mutually exclusive. I've long felt that Dareus wasn't maximizing his talents--he's never been in the kind of shape as a pro that he was when he was drafted. That, combined with his substance issues, has held him back. -

Yes, exactly -
Marcell Dareus' thoughts on Rex Ryan's firing
thebandit27 replied to Wayne Arnold's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
That has zero to do with whether or not Rex puts his players in position to be successful. Like I said, two totally separate issues: Dareus and his commitment to football, and Rex's ability to put guys' talents to their best use. -

No worries, I don't get offended and I don't have a problem with journalists criticizing the organization; they've earned it and then some. My problem is when the criticism is juvenile and generally lacking any type of sensible insight into solving the problem. And indeed--Happy New Year...though I think we both know playoffs in 2017 aren't a strong likelihood (barring a miracle at QB)
