Top QBs vs Pressure, No Pressure, Blitz and No Blitz

That's the latter half of the equation...the first half of it is get pressure with a 4-man rush. -
Marcell Dareus' thoughts on Rex Ryan's firing
thebandit27 replied to Wayne Arnold's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
As I said, Dareus' issues and Rex's issues are mutually exclusive IMO. I don't remember Marcell having any issues with the defense when Pettine or Scwhartz were in charge, which isn't to say that he previously had his priorities in order; I simply mean that he made more impact plays. What Rex could've done was simplify things to allow the front 7 to attack more and play less read-and-react-and-re-read-and-check-and-re-react stuff. Again, it's about coaching the 11 that you have on the field, not attempting to shoehorn pieces into a rigid scheme whether guys are at their best in it or not. -
Marcell Dareus' thoughts on Rex Ryan's firing
thebandit27 replied to Wayne Arnold's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Here's where I stand... A coach should shape the system around the players, not the other way around. The reason why Belichick is the best is because he coaches the 11 guys that are on the field. You won't see him asking guys to play outside of their wheelhouse. Coaching is about putting guys in the best position to have success. One of the reasons that Lynn has the cursory look of HC material is that he's been able to produce points consistently without a franchise QB and without the services of his only real receiving threat. He's done that by asking Taylor, the OL, the RBs, and guys like Hunter and Goodwin to simply do what they're good at. I won't claim to know if that means he'll be a good HC, but I do know that it's the diametric opposite of what Rex did with the D. -
Marcell Dareus' thoughts on Rex Ryan's firing

Dareus' issues are, IMO, mutually exclusive from the issues with Rex's defense. There's no way that the loss of one guy that communicates adjustments should cause such a precipitous decline in performance. I despise the idea that every little shift on offense requires multiple checks and changes in approach on defense that all need to be communicated in seconds pre-snap. All teams have checks and adjustments, but when the quantity and complexity of those checks get in the way of guys being able to simply execute their responsibilities, it becomes detrimental, as we've seen. -
Sully: Bills' bozos leave Lynn to twist on his own
thebandit27 replied to Rico's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I said in the lead up to the 2016 draft that, QB-wise, it reminded me of the 2008 class with Goff comparing to Matt Ryan and Wentz comparing to Joe Flacco. Goff seems to be slower in coming along than Ryan, but for now I'll stick by that opinion. -

Good post. I like that Curran compares several different situations to give context. -

Oh look, name-calling...shocking. And a great argument to boot! No, I took journalism as a series of electives because I liked writing. My major was civil engineering (and since I appreciate your concern about my job status, you can rest assured that I not only got a job before I graduated and remain gainfully employed with that firm, but I also run a health and wellness company). If you have an issue with my opinion, feel free to show me why the columnist you so ardently defend compares favorably to his peers. Don't worry, I won't hold my breath. -

It's adorable that some folks seem to gravitate toward name-calling as though it brings some type of insight to the discussion. That's why Sullivan is a hack...if he can't call people names and sling insults he doesn't have content. When I took journalism classes in college, we always said there's a term for folks that can make a compelling argument without insults and name-calling: "journalists". -

I have zero issue with criticism as you know, but please do more than whine and name call (him, not you). Offer some real content. He does nothing for me as a writer. JMO -

For me, I feel like just about any decent story-teller can write snark about bad sports and make it funny. I like the folks that can weave interesting and thought-provoking nuggets into their work. Maybe I'm jaded by my journalism classes in college, but it just seems that Sully's stuff is so cookie-cutter. -

Well, guys like Jim Kelley and Larry Felser stuck around, but that was before internet journalism really took off. -

Nah. No need to pull punches; he's a hack because his writing is uncreative and does nothing to bring any further knowledge to the reader. Many columnists are pot-stirrers, but the good ones actually add perspective and are capable of teaching something to the reader. That's not Sully...at all. -

He literally does have cut/paste articles that he just plucks whenever he wants to be snarky. That's why I stopped reading TBN years ago--just zero thought-provoking content. -
Roth: By firing Ryan, Pegulas got it half right and wrong
thebandit27 replied to Rico's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'm not talking about his ability to inspire people; I'm talking about it being a decision that doesn't inspire confidence in me. -
Roth: By firing Ryan, Pegulas got it half right and wrong
thebandit27 replied to Rico's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think that my initial reaction would be uninspired, yes. I do, however, recognize that his success would largely hinge upon his choices of coordinators, so I would probably temper my disappointment until he made some hires. I suspect that he'd probably promote Kromer or Palmer to OC and try to keep things intact, which probably means keeping Tyrod. If that's the case, I'd probably be displeased-but-not-outraged. -

Also the Baltimore and Jets games were there for the taking. I have waffled on Whaley; for now I'm on board with letting him pick the coach, but I reserve the right to be mad if his choice is uninspiring -
Kyle Shanahan for Head Coach. Here is why...
thebandit27 replied to dezertbill's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I've long felt that Kyle Shanahan was a good offensive mind. I have no idea if he'll be a good HC, but he'd be on my list of interviewees alongside Jim Bob Cooter. Get one of them in here alongside Gus Bradley as DC and you've got the makings of an innovative, experienced staff. -

Anybody Have A Change Of Heart About Gilmore?

Malcolm Butler is a pretty solid tackler. Others that come to mind for me include Damarious Randall and Jason Verrett. That's about it though. -

This is a contextually-bereft, purely emotional argument. I typically like your posts, but c'mon man. PS Merry Christmas and Happy Chanukah -

Anyone that believes he can be easily replaced is in for a rude awakening. He's a top-10 corner, and there's a reason why teams don't target him in the pass game. There's also a reason why he's smothered receivers like Allen Robinson, Antonio Brown, and Terrelle Pryor (among others) in the last 6 weeks. -
As expected, Donnie Yen was excellent.
