Brandon hired Whaley--it's both or neither. -

It's also not a coincidence that Facebook cancels out the cholesterol-lowering effects of Justin Bieber. It is absolutely clear as day and not up for debate. The figure below shows a plot of serum cholesterol from 1986 to 2010. As you can see, after the year Justin Bieber was born the average cholesterol levels began to fall until Facebook was invented. After that the cholesterol levels began to rise: -

Careful, you'll soon be labeled a shill for the organization, because only a shill would tell people what the organization has been saying consistently for the last 3+ years and has never once deviated from. It's really simple for me: if you think Whaley has done a poor job, then he should go, and since you believe he's done a poor job, then you probably want Russ gone as well (since he hired and promoted Whaley). If you think that Whaley has done a good enough job to stay, then Brandon should stay as well, since he's the guy that put this footbal structure into place back in 2013. Either way, Taylor and Ryan should go, because neither is getting the job done. -
Will McClay, Duke Tobin, and Scott Fitterer would be the guys for me (in that order)

If this article doesn't state the situation perfectly, I don't know what will: http://buffalonews.com/2014/10/18/bills-brandon-excited-about-future-under-pegulas-ownership/ "Doug Whaley has full control over the personnel and the 53-man roster," “Buddy Nix completely ran the football operations. You have your scouts and your personnel, but at the end of the day the responsibility of every draft is the person pulling the tag. I was just stating the facts. In the 2013 draft, Buddy Nix was general manager." “My responsibility is to empower people, and Doug Whaley is empowered to run the football operations. This year was his first draft as general manager. That being said, no one is running away from anything. Doug was very involved in that 2013 draft. There’s ownership across the board, but my point was that was Buddy’s draft." “At the end of the day, the general manager makes the decision, just like Whales made the decision to move up and take Sammy Watkins. That was his job, his responsibility, and that’s what he’ll be graded on down the road.” "There is distinctly a football side and a business side here. You probably don’t know the names Peter McLoughlin and Joe Ellis. They’re the two presidents of the teams in the Super Bowl last year. We all have similar roles. Look in our division. You probably don’t know the names Neil Glat and Tom Garfinkel. They’re the presidents of the Jets and Dolphins. “When it comes to the football decisions, Doug Whaley and Coach Marrone have 100 percent full autonomy. They are empowered to make those decisions. We talk as a group, as an organization. But I think we’re set up like most organizations where your coach and GM collaborate and make decisions that are football decisions. “I don’t get involved in who we draft or how we draft. I get involved in the administration of the day-to-day operation, and my responsibility is to make sure they have every resource to be successful. I feel that we have continued to provide them with everything they need to be successful as we continue with this process. I think we’re built like most organizations that way.” -

Just a note: The Bills have stated sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo many times that Whaley has full control over the 53-man roster that it's actually boring to hear it at this point. If anyone can find anything that disputes that, anywhere, I'd be interested to see it. The language has been plain as day: "Doug Whaley has full control over the 53-man roster". I am asking for an example of a direct statement otherwise, since some people seem to want to make that claim. It almost feels like an agenda Not "I saw a picture of Russ in the draft room", or "Russ was on the phone with Glenn Gronkowski", or "he was in the room when a guy was cut". That's useless information when you have clean-and-clear statements from the owner, president, and GM that contradict it. -
The current Bills have no idea how to play in the snow

That's probably the reason that Pittsburgh opened the game with 7 straight passes and had over 150 passing yards with less than 20 minutes of game time elapsed. After backing off the defense, they proceeded to blast us for 200 rushing yards. It all starts with the QB. -

There is some cognitive dissonance in this thread. If you feel that Whaley needs to go, then Brandon needs to go too, since he hired/promoted him. If you don't feel that Whaley needs to go, then neither does Brandon, since he's the guy that put the personnel dept in place. -
Places to eat in Buffalo this weekend

Aro Tapas in Williamsville--fantastic. Russell's is solid if you get the Dinner for 2 menu (it's not for 2 people; that's just what it's called)...best deal in town. Soup or salad, 6 oz filet, side, and dessert for $40. -
Russ Brandon Attends Monday Morning Football Meetings
thebandit27 replied to Fadingpain's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
In what other organizations does the GM set the parameters and have other people work the phones while he's busy with the draft? I'd imagine somewhere between 99 and 100% of them. There are plenty of things to criticize the organization about; there's no need to make things up to manufacture outrage. Get mad at Whaley for giving up a 4th rounder for a guy that they cut a year-and-a-half later...or get mad at Russ for hiring/promoting Whaley in the first place. -

Because Whaley asked him to do so... http://www.buffalobills.com/news/article-3/ON-THE-CLOCK-Whaley%E2%80%99s-decisive-deal-making/54d1611b-5b46-40d9-ac1b-dc11b7fb13e2 But don't let that ruin a good narrative. -
Salary Cap to increase 10-15 million in 2017
thebandit27 replied to bobobonators's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Ah ok...regarding Preston, I just don't see any reason to get rid of him when he can be the backup to Reggie next year. I'm on the fence with Gilmore--I think he's a very good corner, but I also believe that they may be able to pick up a Sam Shields or Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie-type cap casualty that can be an effective starter, cost less, and not count against the compensatory formula. Like, say, Myles Jack? Absolutely. I think there's a very good chance he'd get a Sam Bradford-type deal as a stopgap starter. -

Some thoughts to consider... 1. Woods would be nuts to sign now--he can get $7M+ AAV on the market. As a corollary: we'd be nuts to pay him that. 2. I'd love to keep him, but that's an enormous contract to pay when you're already paying 6 premium salaries and have Watkins to deal with soon. 3. Let him go. He won't renegotiate when he's got $27M in gtd money coming--someone will sign him as a stopgap starter. 4. Absolutely. Good call. 5. No need--Preston is cheap and can walk after 2017, bringing a compensatory pick. 6. Agreed. 7. Pretty sure the poison pill was made illegal by the last CBA. 8. No other choice really. -

Seattle's president of marketing sits in the daft room as well--that means absolutely nothing. What picks has he "influenced" and how? That's a rather nebulous accusation. If you want to pick on Russ for a football decision, start with Whaley, who he hired and promoted to GM. -

thebandit27 replied to Fadingpain's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
No, you're missing the point. What is the #1 reason that this team has had 17 years of non-playoffs? No QB. Who makes the decision on who to draft/sign? The GM and personnel department. That folks want to make it about Russ is exactly as Leroi said: a witch hunt. He's not deciding on draft picks at all. Nor FAs. That's Whaley, and the entire front office has been clear as crystal about that. Why some folks need to make this out to be some type of mystery will never make sense to me. -
Russ Brandon Attends Monday Morning Football Meetings
thebandit27 replied to Fadingpain's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Yes we do...he is NOT making draft picks. We picked TJ Graham over Russell Wilson because Buddy Nix wanted a speedy WR. We picked Aaron Williams over Andy Dalton because Buddy Nix believed in Fitz. We could've offered the same package that Minnesota offered Seattle to move up and get Teddy Bridgewater if we wanted to move up and get Carr, but we didn't. None of those are Russ's doing, and I can't imagine that anyone believes otherwise. yes, we do
