  1. Jehuu Caulcrick. Boom! Time to go home now.
  2. Interesting. I did not get "raw." I thought refined which is pretty much the opposite. Maybe raw in the run game but with refined pass rush skills? Anyways, the best analogy I can think of is Greg Maddux (holy crap he's 54 now--man I'm getting old.) His 355 career wins and 3300+ strikeouts came without having a power arm. But he had outstanding control, pitched with a plan for every batter he faced and had a variety of great pitches at his disposal. Just not a plus fastball. I sort of thought of AJ that way after watching this video. Lacking an elite fastball he has a repertoire of pass rush moves, especially with his hands, to execute a plan. He is raw as in he has much to learn and develop, possibly with his eyes as you say, but it seems like he has some refined skills as well that help him create impact plays. I was dreading the Chris Kelsay analogy I'd been hearing. Great, all we need is the next whipping boy of Bills Fandom for whenever Trent Murphy leaves. This video made me think he could be much more.
  3. Erik Turner's work is generally great but this is even a notch above. It breaks down how he wins. I like him as a Bill even more. I searched Cover1 and didn't see it posted elsewhere. Cover1: How AJ Epenesa Generates Pass Rush
  4. This trade that did not happen is just as interesting, imo. He was fairly certain that the teams immediately ahead of him were out of the RB market but with 8 RBs off the board already he was probably really anxious about somebody jumping ahead of the Bills (a draft day disaster in his mind?) to get Moss and wanted to prevent that from happening. Enough so as to give up a later round pick to avoid the disaster . I'd love to know where they had him in their rankings. They wanted a downhill, physical back and Moss was not only the best left but maybe the last that they had any interest in during the top half of the draft. Kind of weird that he was the 9th taken. I think DCOrange nailed it. Moss in the 3rd was what the Bills were hoping for and it almost didn't happen as three others went in the round ahead of him and Beane was probably edging toward the freaking out stage.
  5. I don't think his guess is a good one. He was picked too far away from where the Bills had their pick to fit the story, #109 vs. #128. He was just very sure that the Bills were really interested in him.
  6. Hah! Easy. Colonel Mustard in the conservatory with a lead pipe!
  7. Talking about QB decision making and OC playcalling, I see it this way. Both just got "smarter" because of Diggs. Go from the 2018 situation where few players win on their routes to 2020 where they are winning at all levels. There are fewer bad places to go with the ball and plays that fail.
  8. There is not much patience for developing a kicker. They have little time to win the job and they better not cost their team any wins. One option is to transition with a kickoff/long fg specialist but using 2 roster spots on kickers is not popular either.
  9. Which game was it that the pregame fireworks generator blew over? Eagles maybe? I thought it might damage the turf. The next game they had it anchored with sandbags.
  10. Nice call. I hope this is right. I was sleeping on him because he was not top 5 most places. Since he is now a Bill, I have learned that compared to JT he breaks more tackles, is more ball secure and is a better blocker and receiver in the passing game. That's my kind of RB. So the bolded statements seems to be in the astute category. Seems like the 40 times for Moss and Epenesa counted way to much. MathBomb RAS has Zack's Flying 20 top speed as 21.9 mph and Taylor at 22.4 mph. I do like Zack's total package of skills more.
  11. Yes. I knew this was true of their first two picks which should be the biggest part of any grade. The author is Jake Rill whose work I don't think I have read before. Some of these evaluations seem to weigh all the picks equally and ignore the significance of the Diggs trade. Both would be a poor way to look at it, in my opinion. It's all about using draft capital to upgrade roster talent whether it happens on 4/23 or in mid March.
  12. One of the network guys (Brooks? Riddick?) called backup QB a top 30 roster spot. I think this is true. If so, spending a 5th round pick in an attempt to upgrade the spot over the next 4 years seems ok. We know Frank Reich justified his draft spot #3-57.
  13. I went looking for the numbers based on a gut feeling about how Josh performed at home vs. road. I think it's interesting in that he was statistically much better on the road and one might wonder what it's tied to. If he has an entire 2020 season that is as good as his 2019 road games, I think we'd be pretty happy with the progress. 1) Basically he was a road warrior. It's tough to win on the road in the NFL is an old cliche. Imo, it's very encouraging that he can lead them to big road wins so early in his career. 2) A big chunk of the difference might be the the result of the home and away games vs. NE which might tend to say that it's an aberration. 3) Some of the difference is likely due to the 4 extra windy home games at New Era that are tough on QB stats/passing games for either team.
  14. Comparing him to Jonathan Taylor he is better in pass protection, has done more as a receiver, breaks more tackles and has shown better ball security. These are qualities that sustain offense. I think we will all enjoy watching him play.
  15. I like the way he attacks the ball before the hit. The impact usually displaces the QB from his spot with certainty except for that tfl on Josh where he wrapped him up and wrestled him down.
  16. Seems relatively frail for an NFL WR. Blocking, beating press, getting redirected on routes might be issues. He might be a special project for strength and conditioning staff.
  17. Hall must ha've a worse medical situation than what we were aware.
  18. It's like they forgot who their audience is and why we're watching on a Saturday afternoon.
  19. I don't know if there is a decent athletic test to simulate contact balance and vision which are way more important than straight line speed. It's tough to imagine that making tacklers miss and knocking them on their butt is a different kind of athleticism that is not reflected in other measurements.
  20. Yeldon is 6' 2" and easy to tackle. Those thick legged, squatty types with a low center of gravity give DBs cause to make a business decision every time he squares them up.
  21. I read somewhere that he has a Beastmode running style.
  22. Somehow we are being messed with. Here is the screenshot I made to post. Maybe the scores of a DE vs. a DT?
  23. A tackle that made some noise. Two big boys coming together.
  24. One way to assess value is to quantify what anyone is willing to pay for it. The value of Diggs = #1, #5, #6 and future #4. You made the comparison. In today's NFL WR are more valuable, you said. Well, they paid 22, 155, 207 and ~140 (2021) which is about 48.3 on the Rich Hill chart. Picks 54 and 86 are 18.0 and 8.6 on the chart, respectively. Diggs will cost ~11 million in cap space and the hypothetical rookie at 54 or 86 is less than 1.5 million. So, the cost of acquisition is no where near equal. What is the same are the reasons for doing it. Adding elite offensive play making talent for the 2020 season which is in the window of a QB on his first contract. This has been a stated priority of Beane and McDermott all off season. Scoring more points in 2020.
