Giants prepared to release CB Bradberry (now released)
Thurman#1 replied to billsbackto81's topic in The Stadium Wall
The Bills didn't pick up his Carolina salary, did they? Addison was an FA. The Bills negotiated a new contract with him. -
Training may be an expectation in the corporate world, but it's very often an unfulfilled expectation in situations where the young guy is training to take the only job available away from the guy in that job currently. It wasn't my post you're talking about there. But has Tannehill somewhere said he won't invite Willis to Thanksgiving? Or did he just say it wasn't his job to mentor him? What's my point? I think I made it. If you're still unsure, feel free to re-read.

Tannehill didn't say he wasn't going to be a respectful teammate to the rookie. And Montana and Young may be friends now, but they weren't at that time. Q: "What was your relationship like with Steve Young?" Joe Montana: “You ever had anybody try to take your job? (Laughs, applause ensues). It’s a team game but it all starts with individual efforts. So my job with Steve was basically to make sure he stayed behind me. The game is not the same when you stand on the sideline with your uniform on. After you experience that, you don’t want to be anywhere else. We had a working relationship. But it was one of those things where I didn’t care if it was Steve Young, Steve Bono, Steve DeBerg — I had a whole bunch of Steves — it didn’t matter who it was for me. It was my job that I felt I had to make sure they stayed over there watching me as long as possible. But it’s a competitive relationship. … I didn’t feel bad for him.” https://www.mercurynews.com/2013/10/26/joe-montana-speaks-out-on-49ers-move-steve-young/

New Bills RB Raheem Blackshear sees himself “like a Deebo Samuel”
Thurman#1 replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall
Yeah. What's the big deal? You want a guy to be confident about what he can do if given a chance. He had a great college career, he's got reason to be proud and confident. Must've had a bit of competition for him. They don't give everybody one of those. -

He'll almost certainly get a lot more money than they are going to be willing to pay. -
I don't see anything here. "The veteran quarterback said he understands how the league works and welcomes the competition. 'I don't think it's my job to mentor him,' Tannehill said. 'But if he learns from me along the way, that's a great thing.'" This is an absolute nothingburger.

You could be right, but I doubt it. Rushing as a DE is a whole different animal than rushing from ILB. What he was really good at was finding a hole and getting through it fast. At DE he'd be edge rushing, which isn't nearly so much about finding a hole as it is about beating a man. I doubt we see him at DE, myself. I do expect them to work to try to use his blitzing ability. He's good at it and they'll try to exploit that. But we'll see.

Schoen fires longtime NYG Director of College Scouting
Thurman#1 replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall
It's pretty common timing for a new GM finding he isn't satisfied with the group he had. You can't really fire all the scouts when you're hired in January. The guys you bring in will not have coordinated their scouting. Many players will be uncovered. They've missed the college season. -

Nix was pretty good. His problem was that he couldn't bring in a QB and that when they wanted a coach Ralph was passing and absolutely nobody wanted the job. He built a really good defense, but that meant they never got really high draft picks for a QB. -
I haven't a clue whether or not this is true. But the doctors do. And if possible, it would be an excellent reason for teams to stay away. Bottom line is that this is up to the doctors, the liability lawyers, the teams and the league's concerns over possible horrendous consequences and whether the possible high ceiling and terrific rewards are in fact impossible. The doctors know better than we do, and the teams are making a different decision than you folks are if death is actually on the table (and again, I don't have a clue, but I haven't seen anyone in the thread who seems to know either).

On the field, he's faster than 4.45 But yeah, he's got a lot to prove. 2nd year would be the time to do that, if it happens.
-
Don't expect that. He is far more likely to see maybe 40% of the snaps and most of the third downs. If he's as good as we hope, that'll increase in future years.

My guess is it's a fluke.

Rd 3, Pick 89 (25): LB Terrell Bernard, Baylor
Thurman#1 replied to Hapless Bills Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall
He may well be a tweener. But part of the whole different animal that the NFL is ... is that more and more tweeners are finding homes and becoming terrific players in today's NFL. "He wasn't on anyone's radar"? That's utter nonsense. He was on many people's radar. Not the Bills so much because Bills fans had different ideas about what the Bills needed and wanted than Beane does. Beane - and everyone, really - have included LB on Bills need lists. Many fans thought that meant they wanted to replace Tremaine, but clearly what Beane meant was that he wanted to replace Klein and at the same time get some desperately needed quality backup talent in there for Milano and Tremaine. Not on anyone's radar? Except for Cowboy fans, Steeler fans, Bears fans, Giants fans, Raiders fans ... and I could go on and on and on. https://www.reddit.com/r/cowboys/comments/sxihpv/a_cowboys_mock_draft/ https://www.behindthesteelcurtain.com/2022/4/4/23009076/what-could-a-defensive-focused-draft-look-like-for-the-steelers-pittsburgh-stingley-davis-bryant-nfl https://ontapsportsnet.com/2022/04/27/chicago-bears-mock-draft-down-to-the-wire-nfl-draft-2022/ https://flipboard.com/video/fannation/1b0777642a https://www.yahoo.com/entertainment/linebackers-land-squarely-raiders-draft-211515946.html -

No. It wasn't "by far a better pick." You say that like it's a fact when reality is we'll know in three years or so. Your opinion is that it's a better pick? Hey fair enough, to each their own. If he turns out to be a 3rd round special teamer and Parham doesn't turn into a JAG or worse, you'll be right. Both of those outcomes might happen, but there's no particular reason to think we know for sure. -
Way way way too much time spent on the stupid intros. Talk freaking football. Show some game tape on the prospects. The NFL is usually so smart in cranking up the entertainment factor of their product. And they've jumped under the bar here. I think they feel that the people actually in attendance might enjoy this, and they're probably right about that, but Jesus it's boring and stupid on TV.

Great stuff, Gunner. Thanks.

So according to you, bringing in Saffold equals "no infusion of talent"? And you feel you now have enough information at the end of the 3rd to know they're not going to infuse any talent to the OL in the draft or FA? Yeah, those are both wrong. There's certainly room for frustration here - I'd rather have had Parham myself - but that take is just wrong. -

Hah You cracked me up there. That's exactly it. Good post. This is going to take some time for me to grow to like. On the face of it, it doesn't make a lot of sense. But they do need someone to replace Klein as the #3 and to back up Milano and Tremaine. I'm hoping it'll look good in retrospect. Certainly a decent chance of it. -
Punter, yeah, probably. I think we were strongly considering that before acquiring these picks. We'll see.

So, all freakouts are wrong! Gotcha, this totally makes se ... oh, no, it doesn't. First, if this is a freakout, I'd hate to see what you'd call a molehill. Second, people hated it when we brought in Kelvin Benjamin too. Or when we drafted Cody Ford. Sometimes it makes sense. And if you feel people need to move on after eight hours of mild complaints, I'd suggest you take another look at your filter in terms of what people need to do. I don't greatly mind the move. And Beane is a sensational GM. But yeah, losing the pick hurts. People should stop kidding themselves it's nothing. It's not. It's something. we might easily have lost Elam if we hadn't made the trade. Or not. We'll never know. Coming down on one side of that argument, either side, makes sense.

Getting snatched off the PS was not good. But that's quite rare. And they might eventually be back. More PS guys become useful with the drafting team than get snatched.
-
Under this FO, Gabriel Davis and Taron Johnson only, two huge bargain successes. Yeah, we should trust Beane. But yeah, losing a pick hurts, especially when it's in their wheelhouse.
