Spotrac Contract Forecast: CJ Spiller
Mark80 replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Agreed, especially with a bounce back injury free year that we will hopefully get. -
What does Marcel's brother being shot or Williams being stabbed by his brother have anything to do with them going to jail? Last time I checked, an overwhelming majority of victims (Williams) and their family members (Dareus) don't go to prison. You clearly have little to no understanding of the legal system if you believe Marcel is going to actually be found guilty of a felony. He'll plead it down to a misdemeanor pay a fine, do a little community service and be done. As for Williams, criminal mischief charges? Come on, you really think he's going to jail for that? These guys can afford to pay for the best defense attorneys in their state, you don't go to jail for such things when you have attorneys that know what they are doing. That's the reality of it. 100% guaranteed that neither goes to jail for either of those offenses. As far as the other weak argument, what makes you think it is easier to throw balls to big receivers than small ones. And these guys are not that agile, they are more straight line speed guys and Benjamin isn't even that fast. There is a very small window a QB can throw a ball to a covered tall WR that he can snag and the CB cannot grab or knock down. It is much easier to throw to an open receiver regardless of their size. If you don't think he can hit our WRs when they are open, who are much better route runners than Benjamin and Bryant, than what makes you think he'll hit the smaller window for a taller WR to make the play when they are covered? WR has quickly become one of the best strengths on our team, IMO. You don't get better by improving your strengths slightly, you get better by improving your weaknesses a lot...OL, LB, and DB had to be the targets after we got Watkins. Period. Finally, Watkins. What would make you think he's going to be injured? He only missed part of one game in his entire college career because of injury and that was just an ankle injury. You could create the exact same doom and gloom scenario for any team in the league. Your act just gets old.

What the hell are you talking about? "Focuses on the the availability of just one weapon"? What does that even mean? Watkins, Spiller, Goodwin, Woods, Williams. 5 legit weapons in the passing game. Watkins IS our big threat guy. Williams IS our BIG threat guy in the redzone. Just because they are tall and fast doesn't mean they are NFL superstars. Benjamin and Bryant? Seriously? Maybe we should have just drafted 6 WRs? Preston Brown an UDFA? Unreal. You're complaining about Watkins "not even out of the bag yet" but at the same time proclaim Brown and Cockerell to be wasted picks already. Williams and Dareus in jail opening day? Come on man, get a grip on reality.

Buffalo's new stadium - will Super Bowl be played in it?
Mark80 replied to WotAGuy's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Really, besides harbor center where? Also, they should be within walking distance of the stadium to be relevant. -
Buffalo's new stadium - will Super Bowl be played in it?
Mark80 replied to WotAGuy's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Right, but that alone isn't enough. Even if it's downtown they would still need more hotel space, restaurants, and a new convention center I would think. If the convention center could be built with the stadium it would probably be the old "if you build it, they will come" sort of thing for the hotels and restaurants. -

Mark80 replied to WotAGuy's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think it would depend on how much infrastructure we have available around the stadium. If the hotels, restaurants, convention center, and access are up in place then I would say we would get one. They seem to be really rewarding the new stadiums lately and it could easily be an unofficial promise made to the city / new owner to get a new one built. -
Biggest 1st Round Bust From 2014 Draft
Mark80 replied to truth on hold's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Yikes, that's bad. If you would have said to me "who is Quentin Coryatt?" I would have had no clue until 1 minute ago. A number 2 overall pick! Bust on 1 and 2, no wonder the Colts were so bad for so long. -
Biggest 1st Round Bust From 2014 Draft
Mark80 replied to truth on hold's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Very true, but that technology / scrutiny is there for all players. It goes back to my point when we first started this back and forth, his level of competition scares me a bit. You see a guy dominate a bunch of players that will never see an NFL field except for a select few (MAC) or you see a guy dominate a bunch of players who will be in the NFL (SEC), you tell me who you think is going to be the "safer" pick and who has more "bust" potential. Mack's performance / numbers / level of dominance were impressive, very impressive, but it was against who it was against. -
Biggest 1st Round Bust From 2014 Draft

He never said Mike Williams (wr-usc) was a safe pick. I said Mike Williams (ol we drafted) was considered one at the time and he thought I was talking about the other one (USC). -
Biggest 1st Round Bust From 2014 Draft
Mark80 replied to truth on hold's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
So now your qualifying it to a top 12 pick so you can be right huh? Not so fast. Since 2000: David Carr, Bryon Leftwich, Leodis McKelvin (sorry, but for an 11 pick he doesn't pass muster), Aaron Curry (yes it's ACC, but their enrollment is only 5,000 undegrads so I'm counting it). There is 4. You named only 3 good ones (Vincent and Romo were not top 12). I'll even give you Urlacher. Even if you can come up with 2 more good ones in the top 12, that's still a 40% failure / bust rate. And again, I said I like Mack, he just worries me a bit. I clearly said that I think Barr is the bust of the draft. -
Biggest 1st Round Bust From 2014 Draft
Mark80 replied to truth on hold's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Dude, what are you talking about? Mike Williams was drafted #4 overall in the 2002 draft. Look it up homey, you are utterly and unquestionably wrong. And your list of a few good small school players? I can guarantee you that I can come up with a list of small school guys that put up huge numbers that didn't do anything in the NFL or even make the NFL at all. Hell, the best QB in the MAC last year got signed as a RB, a RB!!! -
Biggest 1st Round Bust From 2014 Draft
Mark80 replied to truth on hold's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
We drafted Williams at number 4. How is that almost falling out of the top 10? You can also add Robert Gallery and Jason Smith as safe OTs drafted top 5 that busted. I like Mack, don't get me wrong, I just really value the level of competition in determining how well they will adjust to the NFL and UB plays garbage teams all season long. Like I said, he was invisible versus the best offense they saw last year, Baylor, and that worries me a bit. Also Keith Rivers and Ernie Sims were seen as pretty safe as well, they'd both have to be seen as busts as of now (hopefully not for long for Rivers), so I don't think Curry is as rare of an exception as you believe. -
Biggest 1st Round Bust From 2014 Draft
Mark80 replied to truth on hold's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Wasn't Aaron Curry and Mike Williams two of the "safest" players in their drafts as well? How did that go? Truthfully, I can sort of see Mack being a bit of a bust. Played pretty bad competition (including a very overrated Ohio State team last season). He didn't do anything against Baylor the next week who had a much better offense. I hope not, but I can see it. Overall, I think it's Barr though, followed by Brandin Cooks. -
I can't believe you wrote "I'm as big a Tom Brady fan as there is." You should be banned from these boards.

What was greatest decade of nfl football?
Mark80 replied to major's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I really think that FA has hurt football. Before FA, most of the better players were with the same team for the vast majority of their careers. Now you're lucky to get a guy to resign and if they do, it's for so much that you can't afford to keep your depth guys around. Therefore, you grow less of a connection with the players IMO. I'm at odds with this as well though, since the players should have every right to decided what team to play for and not be the "property" of the franchise. Forgot to answer the question though. For me 90s. Too young to remember most of the 80s and the bills have sucked this millenium. Best 10 years would be 88-97. -
Don't listen to these fellas calling you out over only throwing down $5. First rule of betting, don't bet more than you can afford to lose, especially on a long shot. You didn't. Good job. Hope you win!

You had me until you started discussing Henderson. I'm sorry, but even though he has the physical tools to be a first round talent, he has never shown on the field that he can put it together and perform like a first round talent. He was never the dominate force the Hurricanes expected him to be when he signed with them. He was a constant disappointment. Add to that the character issues and I don't see anyway this guy becomes an effective NFL player. I noted this in his thread, every other player that dropped or did not get drafted in the past with character issues who had success in the NFL, were high impact players at the college level. Moss, Lewis, Honey Badger to name a few. The only one who fell and did not perform well in college that worked out (that I can think of at least) is Vontaze Burfect. I mean, how seriously is Henderson going to take his career if he can't even quit smoking the bud for a known upcoming drug test (combine) and the enormous impact he would (and did) feel from failing this test. You can't fix stupid.

Can a WR change this team? Maybe, maybe not. But I can tell you that a top WR prospect, another solid WR, a very good young RB, significant OL improvements, a Middle LB who is actually a MLB with the size to help stop the run, another LB for the outside / depth, a very good nickle CB / or possibly Saftey can DEFINITELY change this team.

Rd7 Pick #237 OT Seantrel Henderson U of Miami
Mark80 replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Besides Burfect a couple years ago, when has a player ever fallen far in the draft that had off field issues AND below average play on the field that suddenly figures it out and becomes relevant on the NFL level? When players fall because of issues off the field and then have good NFL careers, they were pretty much always top performers in the college ranks. Honeybadger, Moss, Lewis, etc. I don't see anything in Seantrell that makes me think he can do anything at a high college level, much less the NFL. He won't make the squad. -
I agree on Mack. Solid player with decent career, but never elite like a top 5 LB should be.

Now that the smoke has cleared a bit, go on record and say who you feel the biggest offensive and defensive busts will be in the draft. Remember to take into account where they were selected and by which team. Defense: Anthony Barr - #9 Overall - Minnesota Vikings - I was shocked by this pick. Thought they'd go Donald or CB for sure. He reminds me a bit of Dion Jordan and he didn't show anything on the field in his rookie campaign. Top 10 for Anthony was a big stretch in my opinion. Offense: Brandin Cooks - #20 Overall - New Orleans Saints - Small, very small receiver. 5'10, 190 listed, but he looks smaller than that to me. I think he has a very difficult time getting off the press coverages and it's recognized early. CBs seem to be getting more and more leeway when it comes to playing physical and I don't think Cooks will translate at all. Sure, he may benefit from his QB play, but he will clearly be targeted after Colston and Graham and will still be sharing balls with Stills, Meachum, Thomas. By the time he's high up on that depth chart, Brees may be gone.

[closed]2014 Manuel or Bust
Mark80 replied to offsides#76FredSmerlas's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
How come it's always "EJ will make or break this season"? What about Marrone? What about Hackett? What about Schwartz? I feel like using the correct schemes for your personnel with the correct play calling is just as, if not more important than the QB. It is what allows you to have a great QB. And, quite frankly, I wasn't impressed with any of the guys last year on those fronts. I thought I offensive play calling was predictable and limited (perhaps on purpose to ease EJ into the league) and it showed on the field. I say with all the talent on this team (INCLUDING EJ), there is no excuse for Marrone, Hackett, and Schwartz to not get it done.
