Jets offer Maybin one year deal.
Punch replied to lets_go_bills's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It suddenly occured to me why Rex Ryan might be so interested in Maybin. Remember this from last season? "Jets head coach Rex Ryan knows Aaron Maybin a bit more than the average NFL head coach that doesn’t have him on their roster. That’s because Ryan’s kids went to the same high school as Maybin in Baltimore when he was the Ravens’ defensive coordinator." http://blogs.buffalobills.com/2010/09/29/ryan-know-maybin-well/ -

Did you watch him against Chicago this past weekend? He literally could not get past the line of scrimmage unless he took a wide berth, meaning he was still 6-7 yards away from the QB at all times (1 play he was able to curl around and hit Hanie from behind after he delivered the ball). He was the only member of the front 7 to get no push at all. This is his 3rd year, and he hasn't learned how to maximize his strength, quickness, or football intelligence. Systems (Jauron's D and Edward's hybrid D are all different enough) have nothing to do with it, he's just not a football player. If Dave Wannstadt doesn't find him useful then I'm not sure what D coach's opinion would matter, anyhow. -

Apparently, the 49ers are out of the Mayhem Sweepstakes. http://twitter.com/#!/MaioccoCSN/status/103654449507074048 LOL -

A followup post from ESPN's NFC South blog and John Clayton regarding Stinchcomb's cap implications... it doesn't sound like there were any, as far as keeping him on the roster for 2011 and 2012 is concerned. He's going to be paid and count against the cap with the same figures whether or not he's on the roster. http://espn.go.com/blog/nfcsouth/post/_/id/23748/more-on-stinchcombs-cap-implications -
You don't need to reveal your sources. I bet $15 mil of Aaron Maybin's money that one of them is the original poster of this thread, Silvercrw, who joined TSW 24-December 05.

Clearly, you must have had a different login when Bledsoe was signed. Your join date is 3+ years after Drew was traded to the Bills. Posters with legitimate inside info have been greeted warmly and are usually sought out (ie, nevergiveup) from time to time. If you need to remind everyone how important you are then we'll all assume you've never had any info which is usually the case with chest thumpers. I'm sure you won't be offended that we're not all fawning over you.

Whenever Maybin is hailed by someone as being the Bills' worst alltime 1st round pick, the same list gets trotted out on cue in debate--- I think there's really no question that Maybin is by far the biggest bust, but either way, Cousineau doesn't come anywhere near being as that bad of a pick. The Bills turned him into Jim Kelly with the 1st round pick they received from the Browns, and Cousineau led Cleveland in tackles 3 consecutive seasons twice making the All-NFL team. Jetting to the CFL cut into his career no doubt, but he produced while in the NFL and the Bills came away with the greatest player in team history. Maybin has literally done nothing, and following his incredibly poor showing against the Bears this weekend it appears he will never ger another chance.
-
Chan must have seen something he liked in him--- he was signed late last year and even "started" a game for us, making his first career reception in the win in Miami, and re-signed for 2011.

Two positions short of being a great team?
Punch replied to Just in Atlanta's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I was incredibly optimistic at this time last year, but the team's start to the season brought reality crashing down like a ton of bricks. Obviously, the positive signs that developed as the season progressed led me, and others, to believe that the optimism wasn't necessarily so out of line--- but it became evident that patience was key with young talent and a coaching overhaul with new schemes. The defense was atrocious all year, though--- but many, if not all, of the front 7 issues have been addressed, which includes the hiring of Wannstedt. So yeah--- aside from becoming more patient, I didn't learn my lesson from 2010's disappointing start and will be right there with you with you in line expecting special things. Unfortunately, Kevin Boss signed with the Raiders this morning. -
Replace "bodybuilding" with "tweeting" and this description matches Donte, as well

I agree completely. Crowder's strength is stopping the run, which would make him an excellent complement to Barnett and allow for Sheppard to grow. Linebacker depth is necessary with 3-4 defenses and the more talent at the position, the better. Crowder's love for George Edwards is well documented, the only question mark is his repaired knees.
-
He was on IR last year following week 4, so he was not part of Green Bay's Championship run, and although he earned a ring as a member of the team he did not participate in the post season.
-
That's true, news of the Jets' interest in Heap is by far the most substantial free agent news regarding a TE to this point.
-
Yikes! I saw a reference to Barnett getting a garbage plate but it must have just been inferring that he was in the Rochester area. I didn't click on the link for the pic but put 2 and 2 together and came up with 5! Anyway, I still don't see this as some knock on Buffalo as was feared earlier by some.
-
I wonder if the Lions signed Tulloch because Barnett is no longer planning to visit them, or vice vice versa. It looks like he may be a Bill soon if Chris Brown's report of him taking a physical is any indication. FWIW, a pic of a garbage plate was included in the tweet and it looked kind of messy... I didn't take it as a slam against WNY dining, just a little joke about his choice of meal not being "fine dining".
-
My argument "that size equated to sucking in cold weather"? That wasn't me, dude, that was Dr. Trooth. My response to your post was my first post in this entire thread.
-
I don't think Barnett's size is necessarily a problem, but come on... Talley, Conlan and Bennett all started playing in the NFL 25+ years ago. Literally an entire generation----- and Spikes has been a 4-3 OLB, for the most part. Not exactly apples to apples.
-
He's definitely back at the Buffalo News. He recently wrote a longish piece on the life and death of former Buffalo Sabre Brian "Spinner" Spencer... It doesn't look like he'll be focusing on the NFL, but he still comments on the AFC East at his Facebook page.

Sorry, its not personal. The logic of a player choosing to remain with a contender over an unproven young team with a decade plus of mismanagement and losing where the contracts are the same is obvious, isn't it? I just don't understand criticizing Nix for not overpaying when no figures are reported. It appears the Bills made a strong offer which Clabo then used to drive up Atlanta's offer. Erasing the recent past for the Bills, Men in Black style, is not realistic.
-
Who's disagreeing with your logic? The point is, the Falcons had the right to match any offer, and they did. The Bills offer is as yet unknown. Whether or not they made a big offer is unknown. The Bills have been bad for 11 years... if I were a Pro Bowl OT and the successful franchise I play for matched the Bills offer, its probably unlikely I'd be playing in Buffalo. But we don't know what the Bills offered, so your rant is a little toothless.
-
Clabo himself said the Falcons had the right to match Buffalo's offer. The Bills didn't have the same luxury. That's all anyone knows at this point.
-
No, you said the Bills would need to overpay to get him. They very likely did offer a huge contract, and Atlanta met it or came close, which was the logical outcome. When the Bills start winning they'll have less difficulty in getting FAs to come to Buffalo. Until then, this is where we are.
