John Madden Is Not a Fan of TNF
HardyBoy replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Bands like The Dead and Phish both also have a strong sense of community as a key aspect to their enduring popularity. My feeling is that most people get the love of football passed down to them from their families, and lesser extent friends (their friends will also have first watched with their families). Football, more than other sport by far is the most family friendly, in terms of game times. Even the super bowl starts before 6:30 eastern. Used to be you had two games a week that end after 11pm est, now there's three. Doesn't seem like much, but definitely could lead to a less in home family friendly product. Definitely think the root cause is going to be related to how it is consumed by the entire family unit, though I think concussion concerns and the fear of exposing their children to watching people give themselves dementia for their own entertainment is enough of a moral tight rope that they decide to spend their family time on Sunday's differently. -
With Shaq and Sammy both playing today we enacted the dual IR clause in the new cba...first time it's ever been triggered too, so not sure what's gonna happen, but Salas is definitely out of the question.

Teams to root for 11/20 and 11/21

Wait, aren't the people who talk about how pc everything got, supposed to be all about personal responsibility and standing behind one's commitments? I'm probably taking the bait on this one...

I am done with this team if they make a move that impacts our future franchise qb's Deferred Eligibility Reactivation Policy (DERP). Whaley has already gone to far with this crap and that would just be the last straw.

Only 2 Ints Through 7 Games - Thoughts?
HardyBoy replied to HardyBoy's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Ok, let's flip the scenario. In a hypotherical situation let's say the bills ended the season with two fumbles, but only ran 10 times a game. How does that impact the team's overall strategy? What are the statistical thresholds in other areas on offense and defense that the team would need to achieve in order for it to be a successful strategy? What happens if you see a flash of potential in garbage time that makes you think that a slight shift in approach might lead to improved overall efficiency and expected outcome. It's all opportunity cost, what do those equations look like? There are people on here who can provide detailed and informative input on these questions, and I think more than just me would be interested in their perspectives. -
Only 2 Ints Through 7 Games - Thoughts?
HardyBoy replied to HardyBoy's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'm not blaming him, and I think that some of those throws on the last drive show that he can throw with anticipation, so it's an offensive philosophy sort of thing. I would guess most games you are up by 11 in the second half, you win with that strategy, especially this team's defense over the past 6 of 7 games. I'm just curious if two ints is a good thing or a sign of the handcuffing of half your offense. What are the odds of a team making the playoffs with fewer than say 6 picks in a year? So in the OP I was asking for people with real football knowledge to help explain to me what I was seeing, which is me flat out admitting I have no idea what I am watching strategy wise. Especially without taking a heavy look at the all-22, and even then I would be shocked if I could figure out what was going on past a Madden level of understanding. So, surely you aren't refering to me as a self described expert, right? -
Only 2 Ints Through 7 Games - Thoughts?
HardyBoy replied to HardyBoy's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Absolutely, it's a risk reward thing. When you're averaging 7 yards a run, no need to risk the picks, when you're up 11 in the second half, no need to risk the picks. My guess is teams took the middle throw away from the bills the last 4 games and made the run beat them. It worked, Shady and co went off, but today looks like there is tape on how to successfully adjust, which is going to be repeated goimg forward. Unless the oline simply got tired in the heat, Tyrod is going to need to start hitting those middle of the field throws, or we might be looking at this offense getting figured out like in 02 and 03. -

Fair, let's say just plays where he had actual time to set his feet on throws. Miami was in his face within 2 seconds on a bumch of those plays. He made 3-4 solid throws on that drive (from my depressed memory:)), which appeared to be anticipation throws, seeing he rarely had enough time to let a play develop. How many throws did he have down the middle of the field 15-25 yards in the entire game, and how many were on that last drive? What percentage of his throws into tight windows over the entire season came on that last drive? What % of passes 15-25 yards over the middle are intercepted league wide, how many is Tyrod throwing, and does that explain the low int number? -
My take is they are playing it safe and the lack of picks is less a result of elite play and more a result of safe play design, which discourages anticipation throws. That last drive, granted from the tv broadcast, looked like Tyrod was driving the ball down the middle of the field, into tight windows, with anticipation. That throw to Goodwin isn't a hosiptal ball if it's to Watkins, or Woods and Clay even. Granted the dolphins were giving the middle of the field, but that was the qb we saw last year for stretches that got us excited. Hoping some people with real football knowledge could weigh in and explain to me what I was seeing in that last drive, and if the two interception number through 7 games is more a sign of a muzzle vs excellent decision making and ball control.

Btw, I take it back, it ended up being hotter at 2 than it was at noon by a decent amount...not oppressively hot, but definitely will feel like a summer day with moderate humidity

I live in Ft Lauderdale and if tomorrow is anything like today it's going to be perfect. It's almost 80, but almost feels more like a warm day in March (I was just up in Rochester wearing shorts when it was in the 50s, I can still handle the cold, and I can't explain why you can get a chill down here when it's 75 or 80 sometimes, it's the craziest thing).

seantrel Henderson facing 4 game suspension

How do the stats look with the increased marijuana use, which presumably based on what I'm hearing you say is a recreational use increase. Or at least an increase in medical use for non critical conditions. Are intoxicated driving fatalities up, down, the same? Domestic battery? Nonviolent drug arrests? Curious, because a big argument for only allowing medicinal for only the most serious conditions is that only at that level of illness would the negatives be outweighed by the positives. Pot could be helpful for all sorts of small, but meaningful conditions, and before anyone scoffs at conditions like anxiety and insomnia, many people drink coffee every day to provide a small boost in alertness and energy. Small and meaningful, yet completely ok. Granted the inebriating effect of coffee is less than pot, but certainly pot's negative individual impact and societal impact is far closer to caffeine than certainly heroin, cocain and even likely alcohol and tobacco. -

Yeah, but the evidence is plenty strong enough that the burden of proof seems to have shifted to the NFL, and if that's the case, the line that other stuff could have caused it isn't going to fly. Prove to me football, or repetitive head trauma to be more specific, didn't cause it, because the evidence is saying it did and it's been proven the NFL invested in a disinformation campaign, much like cigarettes, and, it just came out, Exxon/Mobile. You're parroting what they're telling you to parrot is what I'm saying, make them prove what it is they are feeding you to say. -

And they're in a much more exposed position when being hit when throwing. Also, the hit can come from any direction when they're running, which makes it harder to anticipate and absorb. -
Carr is in the discussion of best college quarterbacks of all time, as is Rogers (less so). What happens to Carr if he gets to sit for four years and play with that online in Green Bay? What if Rogers has to start right away, behind the oline at the time in Houston? Does he do worse than Carr?

Bills hire first full time female assistant coach
HardyBoy replied to Peter's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
This story has nothing to do with the bills on field, and the proof is that if this was a guy hire you wouldn't see anything more than a single line press release. They hired the most qualified applicant, who happens to be a woman and it's actually unfortunate that this even has to be a story, because qualification should be the only measure and there should already be women coaches. The fact that you are bringing the bills on field impact into this story shows you are against the hire because she has a vagina, or more so because she is different from you and that's 'weird.' It's actually ok for it to be weird, we all have internal biases we cant control, but you need to be self aware enough to realize them and use your mind to think past them. Also, jms62 is probably one of those that would say 'you are actually sexist because this FemaleCoachesMatter is sexist, didnt you know AllCoachesMatter?!' -
Unfiltered With Sammy Watkins
HardyBoy replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think his thinking, based on his experience, is that leaders will lead regardless of a c on their jersey. Also, didn't the bills have a situation a few years ago, where one of the players voted by the players for captain was nixed by the coach? This avoids that possibility.
