  1. I think this year he will make the biggest impact of the Bills draft class. A safety is not the easiest position to transition from college to pros, however it is easier then Dline. Olineman never get a lot of media hype. Only Nelson could make a bigger splash maybe. If he was able to come in and become the pass catching big threat the Bills have missed for years, then he will be known around the league by the end of the season. I spoke with a scout who i know in passing about the Bills draft, he stated that Byrd will make an impact this year for Buffalo. The team he works for also drafted a safety later in round two. I got to believe he scouted Byrd.
  2. I guess the Lions have a 'breakout' season if they go 9-7. To me the Texans are the team to watch. They will win the AFC South this year. They have built a very strong defensive front 7. The Offense all rides on Schaubb. I can really see Indy falling off. Jax has all kinds of issues, Ten. wont have the same type of season. Haynesworth being gone is big, and Collins returns to earth.
  3. Has Butler performed since he has been in the league? Yes he has. Other then a few injuries, he has been one of the better Olineman the Bills have had. So because he was drafted in the 6th round he will suck at tackle? When we just got done watching an undrafted guy play LT for the Bills? Right now you can either be optimistic or pessimistic about the up comming season. I choose optimism. Waaaaay more fun.
  4. You are dead on Bill. LT are not the diamond in the rough they were ten years ago. College conditioning a weight programs, now rival the NFL. Teams have a much better idea of how a kid is going to do now. However for somereason it has not trickled over to the defensive side of the line yet. Mostly because of how much more physical the dline position is in the pros then college. Also the speed and length of the NFL season. It is physically more demanding to play Dline then Oline. But you got to be smarter to play Oline (sorry just an old olineman taking a dig at dlineman).
  5. Wow. O.k First of all the Bills have Walker, Butler, Chambers, and Bell. Bell is very much so an unknown, i will give you that. But Walker and Chambers both played LT when Peters sorry butt was out of shape. Walker obviously can play RT, he has done so for two years with Buffalo. Butler played RT in college, is the perfect size, and is very intelligent. So picking up the slide over to outside, would not be a stretch for him. Your remarks, although funny, are the real absurdity. Try thinking a little before posting. It will help with your credibility when you actually have something good to say.
  6. If that is true then a few things: Just because he wants it doesn't mean he will get it. Might explain why the flight to Seattle was called off. He will sit out there for awhile if that is his asking price. Then maybe once some injuries happen the phone will ring. Even then however i can not see any team signing him to a contract that is not very incentive ladden. His health has been a concern for the last two seasons. Now if he stays healthy, starts, plays very good, and his team does well, then he could probably make 7-9 a year. But those are a lot of variables. Either way i am kind of glad. I really dont think the Bills need or want him. They have 4 guys on the roster right now that can play tackle. He would eat up a lot of cash and not sure he is worth it.
  7. Owens helps more or less bridge the gap for Hardy or Johnson to develope. Hopefully one or both of those guys gets some playing time this year and starts to turn into a legit number 2. If this happens, then the Bills shake Owens' hand and say thank you for your services. They give him high recommendation to the rest of the league. But say we have two good young recievers, and Evans and Josh Reed. Plus hopefully Nelson has shown something by that time too. So Owens is a nice guy to have this year to keep the pressure off some of that young talent and help Edwards gain some confidence, and get Evans open more.
  8. I just don't see the Bills bringing in any more big name type of guys. Levi Jones could be a nice addition but he could also cause a big problem. First of all he has a lot of injury issues the last two seasons. Also then you would have a lot of Olinemen. Now the LB core is definetly shaky. I just cant see how you can think Bowen is going to fill a void. He had a torn ACL his rookie year. He did not play a single down of regular season football. Counting on him or Harris is hoping and wishing. McCargo is the big possibility. It is a contract year i believe for him. Plus he seems to be more comfortable with the new line coach. If he plays consitently like he did in 07, then he could be one of the missing pieces. A LB only looks as good as its Dline.
  9. Maybin will be a stud, but is going to take time. Dline is a very hard transition from college to pros. I spoke with a scout for a team. He told me that Byrd will make more of an impact on the defense this year then Maybin probably. But over the long haul Maybin should turn into a very good player.
  10. I really believe this kid is going to be solid. He will have to adjust to the speed of the progame. But over the long haul he will be a very good player in the league for years to come. He is a hard worker and a solid person which will go a long way in the league., when paired with his god given ability. As Mayock said about him on draft day ,you either wake up with the speed and moves Maybin has or you don't. I know Maybin has to work on his run defense. But all in all i think he will be a cornerstone of our D for years to come.
  11. You dont catch a team like the Pats by surprise for longer then one or two series'. They would quickly make adjustments and figure out how to slow that down. If you have to rely on stunts or gimmicks, you wont win many games against good coached teams. I would not mind seeing it sprinkled in here or there. But as much as it makes a D tired, those big O lineman also can get pretty winded.
  12. I really think this could happen. First of all a blind man could have seen the chinks starting to show in Indys armor last year. Also Dungy's exit can not be a positive. Second, i think Pennington led Fins go back to 6-10 season. Henne starts around game 7 for them. Ravens, that D started to look old and slow last year at times. Ryan is gone, and so is some of the talent from the D. To me the Texans are just like the Bills, they have put together a very nice young team. But everything for both clubs is in the hands of the QBs. If Edwards and Schaubb step up, then i do believe those two teams are in the playoffs. But just like the Bills the Texans are also hoping the Oline can protect better, and allow their young QB to excell.
  13. I really dont think a guy that has been thrown out by the Bungals is the answer. Barring any injuries, your starting line up is the following LT- Walker/ heavy rotation with Chambers LG- Woods C- Hangartner RG- Levitre RT- Butler Bell is your first guy off the bench at either one of the tackle positions. One of those three starters will miss some time next year. So Bell gets some P/T and Bills get to see how he fits into the future. McKinney is first off the bench for one of the gaurds. And Woods slides over to center for Hangartner if he gets banged up. There are your 8 linemen on your active 53 man roster. Personally i like this line a lot better then last years. Last years looked good on paper, and ok in games. Something had to be changed. Bills shook things up. Got two of the best interior guys in the draft. And let Butler move out to RT ( where he played in college)and signed a guy(Hangartner) with center experience. He can not possible be worse then Fowler/Preston. The interior of the line is an upgrade over last years. RT will be as good i think if not better with Butler out there. LT is a big question mark. If Walker does not have to play every down and gets rest with Chambers working in, i like the chances of him and Chambers giving up less sacks then Peters did last year. The running game might suffer some on the left side. But overall i like the look and feel of this line more. And the upside is a lot better then we have seen in years.
  14. Personally i hope Farve does come back. It will draw a lot of the ESPN cameras and circus away from Buffalo, during preseason. While we will still get to see enough Owens coverage, it wont be over blown like the Farve coverage would be. The NFL live crew can focus on what work outs Brett did or did not attend. How he wore a yellow undershirt at practice, and what does that mean.... Please come back Brett!!!
  15. What you could say is this years team has the potential to be very good team. But they are still young in a lot of areas. Kelly was in the league how many years by 91? Thurman? Reed?. Now can i see some of the talent on this roster developing? Sure. Lynch shows flashes, but has trouble off the field, and gets a little dinged up. Edwards looks the part and shows it sometimes on the field. He needs to do it consitently. He is no where near the leader Kelly was. But that can come with time and experience. Evans is another guy who reminds me more of Bebe then Reed. I think he has much more talent then Bebe, but is not the possesion guy Reed was by any means. When the last time you saw Evans go over the middle, get crushed, come up with the ball and jog back to the huddle? Never. So all and all we shall see, but this team needs some more seasoning.
  16. Not to nit pick but isn't Florence the Nickle Back?
  17. I like the one where he picks up and throws the pretty blond coed. He will fit in nicely in the NFL.
  18. Most of the elite TE in the game are not 'great' blockers. Whitten, Gates, Gonzales....etc. They need to be a competent blocker. Blocking is half footwork and half desire. Nelson has good feet i bet. He just needs to put it to use in blocking sets. Also not too many TE are left on an isalnd with a DE for more then a couple seocnds a most. Most DE would school pretty much any good recieving TE over a game. Thats why the TE is left as a second blocker a lot of times. Helping the tackle double team. Now Nelson would be great comming off the line on goal line, chipping a DE and then fading into the center of the endzone. He could probably out jump most safeties. Pair him with Owens and Evans on 3 and goal from the 5. I like the Bills chances a lot more this year then last. Maybe we can stop leading the league in FGs from under 20 yds. That is probably not accurate but just seems that way.
  19. Everytime i try to wrap my head around the fact that Owens is a Bill, i still can't. I am not sure i will really believe it till i see him on the field opening night in Foxboro. I got caught up like evryone else in the draft over the last few weeks, and did not think as much about Owens. But now that things have died down, i am still in disbelief. Any you guys feel that way too?
  20. The Coach i hated the most, was Spurrier. I know not a pro coach really. But while at FLA he was so damn arrogant and good. Loved to hate him. Player, hmmm, how about O.J. Anderson or Hostetler from the Giants 1990. Those two guys had good games, when one (Anderson) was on the downside of his career, and Hoss never really had one. Except as a back up. That was the one of the four Super Bowls the Bills should have won. Oh yeah and Marino was a jack ass too, the one time i met him at Kellys first football camp.
  21. I would not go as far to say steal of the draft. Because that can not be determined until three years from now. I will however go as far to say the Bills filled a need position, with a player that has a ton of potential. Like i said earlier, i spoke to a friend of mine today, who heads the college scouting department for a team. Nelson, is a very good reciever, who needs to play more disciplined on a play by play basis. He can be very good, but has to focus every play, and yes get better on his blocking.
  22. So Souther Miss is not a good football school? Hmm Brett Farve may want to argue that point with you. As well as countless others. Seriously, i dont know why i waste my time with you afc.
  23. Seriously. Yes adding him is not a bad thing, but for that matter, lets add Peppers, or Ocho Cinco. Its not as simple as it being a good addition or not. IT IS ALL about the comepensation for the addition. I personally dont think he is worth the money or the pick(s). You have two young promising interior guys right now. And in Hangartner a guy that is very solid. How you going to put 4 guys in 3 spots???
  24. I can just hear Jerry right now " Now i am glad we didn't have any day one picks"
  25. I am living in reality. But if the Bills could give up next years sixth for him and pay him say 3 mil or less for a one year deal. Or maybe 2 years for 6 mil and 4 gauranteed. Then great i am in. But that isn't likely at all. Why? Well because he is an Oline man in his 30s, who wants to get one more big contract. Hell, i think he has a pretty decent sized contract right now. And the chiefs, will want a decent return player(s)/pick(s) for him. So you should have some idea what he wants and what the chiefs. If you dont then you dont pay close attention to the league.
