  1. I like the one where he picks up and throws the pretty blond coed. He will fit in nicely in the NFL.
  2. Most of the elite TE in the game are not 'great' blockers. Whitten, Gates, Gonzales....etc. They need to be a competent blocker. Blocking is half footwork and half desire. Nelson has good feet i bet. He just needs to put it to use in blocking sets. Also not too many TE are left on an isalnd with a DE for more then a couple seocnds a most. Most DE would school pretty much any good recieving TE over a game. Thats why the TE is left as a second blocker a lot of times. Helping the tackle double team. Now Nelson would be great comming off the line on goal line, chipping a DE and then fading into the center of the endzone. He could probably out jump most safeties. Pair him with Owens and Evans on 3 and goal from the 5. I like the Bills chances a lot more this year then last. Maybe we can stop leading the league in FGs from under 20 yds. That is probably not accurate but just seems that way.
  3. Everytime i try to wrap my head around the fact that Owens is a Bill, i still can't. I am not sure i will really believe it till i see him on the field opening night in Foxboro. I got caught up like evryone else in the draft over the last few weeks, and did not think as much about Owens. But now that things have died down, i am still in disbelief. Any you guys feel that way too?
  4. The Coach i hated the most, was Spurrier. I know not a pro coach really. But while at FLA he was so damn arrogant and good. Loved to hate him. Player, hmmm, how about O.J. Anderson or Hostetler from the Giants 1990. Those two guys had good games, when one (Anderson) was on the downside of his career, and Hoss never really had one. Except as a back up. That was the one of the four Super Bowls the Bills should have won. Oh yeah and Marino was a jack ass too, the one time i met him at Kellys first football camp.
  5. I would not go as far to say steal of the draft. Because that can not be determined until three years from now. I will however go as far to say the Bills filled a need position, with a player that has a ton of potential. Like i said earlier, i spoke to a friend of mine today, who heads the college scouting department for a team. Nelson, is a very good reciever, who needs to play more disciplined on a play by play basis. He can be very good, but has to focus every play, and yes get better on his blocking.
  6. So Souther Miss is not a good football school? Hmm Brett Farve may want to argue that point with you. As well as countless others. Seriously, i dont know why i waste my time with you afc.
  7. Seriously. Yes adding him is not a bad thing, but for that matter, lets add Peppers, or Ocho Cinco. Its not as simple as it being a good addition or not. IT IS ALL about the comepensation for the addition. I personally dont think he is worth the money or the pick(s). You have two young promising interior guys right now. And in Hangartner a guy that is very solid. How you going to put 4 guys in 3 spots???
  8. I can just hear Jerry right now " Now i am glad we didn't have any day one picks"
  9. I am living in reality. But if the Bills could give up next years sixth for him and pay him say 3 mil or less for a one year deal. Or maybe 2 years for 6 mil and 4 gauranteed. Then great i am in. But that isn't likely at all. Why? Well because he is an Oline man in his 30s, who wants to get one more big contract. Hell, i think he has a pretty decent sized contract right now. And the chiefs, will want a decent return player(s)/pick(s) for him. So you should have some idea what he wants and what the chiefs. If you dont then you dont pay close attention to the league.
  10. Ha ha. i like your fire AXE. Some people dont get or wont get it. The glass is always half empty to them.
  11. Yes i do. Because first of all Peters was a pro bowl player the last two years. And can you say he earned that spot last year? Nah did not think so. Rueben Brown was a pro bowl player for like 7 years, think he deserved it all those years? No way. Oline probowl votes are so convaluted. Sorry. But just because a guy was a probowler i do not take that as the end all be all. You are also not mentioning what you have to give up to get him. And what you have to pay him once you got him. Not to mention the playing time he would be taking, that Wood or Levitre could have, and develope. Sorry but if you want a good veteran lineman, go get Henderson. Then i would be ok with it. A fourth for Henderson would be better then a fourth for Waters.
  12. Funny, I actually just got done speaking with a friend that is a scout for a NFL team. He partially did agree with you about Maybin. He said he is young and will probably take a year to develope into a very good player. As far as Wood and Levitre go, he could not have given the Bills better praise. He thinks Levitre will be a very good gaurd. And Woods will probably be the best player the Bills took in this draft. He stated Byrd will make an immediate impact this year. He has good ball skills, but is just a little slow. Nelson has all the tools to be great. The reason he lasted till the fourth was because he sometimes lost focus. He can make all the catches, but did not do it consitently in college. You can spin this offseason either way. Some of the optimists with hope for a better year this year. While the pessimists will watch and think it is same ole same. Just depends on who you are and what way you want to go thru life. Me i will go with renewed optimism, its more fun.
  13. Waters right now would be a waste. You can have too many or i should say too much money tied up in one area. I dont think Levitre or Woods will be a bust. At worse they will have nice solid careers. With Woods possibly turning into your starting center in 2010. Look at what the Bills just got in the 4th round (Nelson). A potential starter at a need area. So do you want to give that up for Waters? Now i would be on board with a fourth or fith to Jax for Henderson. Because the Bills are very thin at best on Dline. Anderson is a hard worker but gets dominated a lot on run plays. Another strong presence next to Stroud, then this D would be pretty much done.
  14. Deffenders can technically wear any number they want. There is no rule. And on offense, linemen are suppose to wear numbers in the 50's-70's. all other numbers are seen as 'elligible' numbers. Or players that can directly progress the ball forward. Thats why when an extra olineman enters the game, he must report as an elligible reciever, even though he has an oline number (50-79). This player must report before every play and then must line up in an elligible position.
  15. Deep, dont waste your time on the afc east guy. He is a pot stirrer. Has a very sad life i would bet. Probably walks around the house and kicks things a lot. And you are right he does not know crap about football. People who watch the NFL, see that the Bills have a good nucleus of young Talented players in place. Injuries, and some coaching decisions have cost this team some Ws over the last two years. But hopefully we put it all together this year.
  16. I love this draft. Got two of the best interior guys in the draft. Already had Butler, and Walker. Plus Hangartners addition, i feel this line will be a heck of a lot better in the long run from what we have seen. Maybin sounds like he should be a very good pass rusher for the Bills from day one. Byrd steps in and plays safety, and K.O is gone. Nelson sounds like he is willing to improve on his blocking, and already was probably the best pass catching TE in the draft. The rest of the draft is 50/50. While i do like the fact that they came back and got Harris in the 5th, i hope he will be able to transition to the OLB. If not they atleast got a guy that could be very good on special teams. But the key to the whole draft was Woods and Levitre. If both those guys pan out, then this draft will be great. Nelson to me seems like a lock to be good. He will if nothing else turn out to be an oversized reciever, that will present tons of miss matches for a D.
  17. If Harris has the talent Boley has, but stays out of trouble off the field, we are in for a treat. Boley was an aggresive attacking rookie. I loved watching him play his first two years. Then he was in contract negotiations last off season when he got into trouble off the field. Talks stopped and he is now a G Man. Harris seemed confident, and very athletic. An outside LB is probably one of the easier positions to transition into the pros. Not saying he will start, but if he picks up the scheme quickly, he will see time.
  18. Metz was by no means a huge threat to run after the catch, however he was perfect for his role. A good blocker, and a very reliable outlet in the passing game. He was also a big man, which came in very handy around the goal line. He played TE like a power forward. I miss Metz. After reading the article about Nelson on the front page. I am even more pumped about the kid. If he walks the walk aswell as he talks the talk in that article we did just get a steal.
  19. I keep hearing so much about Maybin and his weight. Does 20lbs make that much of a difference? I mean come on guys. If he was 230, which is what i thought he played most of his days at PSU or weighs 250, do you really think a tackle will be able to block him any less? The answer is no. What he does need to do and it is what most Dlineman need to do transitioning, is learn technique and the speed of the game. Now he has the speed part down. You can't teach speed, you are either born with it, or not. He most likely will see a lot of third or second and long type of action. The LB behind him will be filling in on the interior and Maybin will need to be able to funnel the runner back into the middle. He will have to learn technique and get lower then the tackles. He will need to get stronger. If a 240 lb guy gets underneath a 315lb tackle who you think is going to win? The 240lb DE, everyday of the week. Trust me, his weight is not as big an issue as we are makeing it. Now his learning curve is a whole other story.
  20. I got to agree with you Leonidas. Butler to LT makes more sense for numerous reasons. It may also help him stay a little more healthy. By that i mean, i you usually dont hear about tackles hurting shoulders, as much as interior guys. I think he only missed three games last year. And none in 2007. But either way. He is younger, quicker, and more athletic then Walker. The right is also the more preffered side to run too . I would rather have my huge tackle on the right, with a big gaurd (Levitre), pushing people out of the way.
  21. Butler is smart and was probably the best Olineman out there when not injured last year. He is big enough and quick enough and smart enough to make the transition. I would like to see if he could play LT early on in camp. Have him, Chambers, Bell and Walker rotating at both tackle positions. Find who does the best job at each one. Personally i think Walker and Butler are going to be your starters. Chambers will see a lot of time, rotating in. We will see a heck of a lot of Bell in preseason. And thus should be able to tell what he has to offer. But it is nice to have options. And quality one at that.
  22. This original post might be one of the worst posts i have ever seen. This guy has no clue about football much less the Bills. Oh and McKelvin does replace Greer, and Florence was brought in as the nickle. Somebody should have taught you the sayin "It is better to keep your mouth shut, and be thought a fool. Then to open your mouth and be a fool." Good Luck BB fan 4 life. Just remember when the Buffalo offense is on the field you want first downs. And when the Buffalo defense is on the field you dont. Start with that concept and work your way up.
  23. This is exactly what i expect to see opening day. And i think it is a huge improvement over what started last year. Butler is as good at RT as Walker was last year. Levitre will have a learning curve but should develope into a very good gaurd. Wood will be better then Dockery was i believe. Hangartner is a huge upgrade over Fowler/Preston. Walker proved he could play LT. Chambers can work in with Walker some on LT and Bell works in on RT with Butler. McKinney is your interior depth. To me this is a huge upgrade over last year. Even with Peters on the line last year. And his sub par play due to his hold out and eventual injury.
  24. I hear what you are saying. And you are right, anything can happen. But we cant fault the Bills for not atleast drafting guys in the areas they needed them. How many years in the past could we say that? Bills needed a pass rushing DE, and they got one in Maybin. He was seen to be the best pure pass rusher in this class by many scouts. They needed Oline help and picked up argueably the best center (Wood) and gaurd(Levitre) in the draft. They needed a safety and got a guy(Byrd) with tons of playmakeing ability. Was not injured his entire college career. And the Bills needed a TE(Nelson) that was a recieving threat, and they got that too. Then the Bills got some project guys later in the draft. Nic Harris, needs to make the jump to OLB. He showed some ability to do this in college. And the CBs at then end of the draft were for special team play. Overall this draft could not have gone much better. Now these guys have to go perform.
  25. I thought it was the first two games. But even so if it was only the first game, and the last two then the Bills were 2-1 w/o Peters last year and 5-8 with him. Now i understand that is an over simplification of the facts, but i really like what the Bills did yesterday. And i believe the oline will be one of the strengths of this team for years.
