When Chan was hired i thought he could restore the team to respectablity. We saw flashes of that this past season. This next year the team needs to show consistency. If this is done, then i think we as fans will see more games like the first 6-7 of 2011.

So, what did we see yesterday?
atlbillsfan1975 replied to Beerball's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The Giants realized a long time ago you can never have enough guys that can rush the passer. If a guy can put his hand in the dirt and get to the QB then you can line him up anywhere. Yesterday it seemed the Giants had 4 'DE' playing at the same time. And they got great pressure. I saw Flaco and Smith are not Brady or Manning. And right now i would take Manning over Brady. I hope Manning wins another SB. He never gets any credit... and does not care. He just plays and wins...gotta like that. And he does not whine about it when they loose or he gets hit. If NY can get to Brady...and i hope they do, i wanna see the true colors come out. -
I think you are right but would say this, maybe take a solid performer from a great confrence...ie the SEC. You have to look no further then Stevie Johnson. He was a one year wonder at Kentucky. But he put up great numbers in his final season. He played against the best college talent every week. He slipped to the seventh round, but when he was drafted i remember looking at his stats and thinking this kid could be a player. Heck i even went on here and said as much.

The Bills are in an unlucky spot this year in regards to Bell. There is not many quality LT that are FA. I know Bell can be debated on if he is quality or not, but he is 'the tallest midget'. No offense to any little people. But this means Bell is probably going to get over paid- something Nix has shown he wont do. Chandler is interesting- he could get easily $4-5 Mil from any team that needs a TE...so the Bills should keep him. Stevie should be resigned for 7-8mil, solid number one money. I still think Stevie is a weak Number one/very good number two receiver. To me, if you look at where Whaley came from they like to re-sign guys they drafted. You do not hear of the Steelers realy making a huge splash in FA. Draft good players, cultivate a positive/winning environment, then re-sign them. This also builds chemistry, which is very important in the ultimate team game. If the Bills do re-sign all their guys, then they really only need to add a FA DE/OLB or a WR. Maybe a little flashy like a Vincent Jackson. They will also pick up a DB in FA. Do not think Finnegan will be the guy. But could be wrong. Then draft in the first best DE/OLB. Round 2 get a DB. Round 3 front 7 help.

maybe one of the best posts i have ever read here. And very accurate. Not sure which way the team will go, but maybe both? 34/43? I mean if you have guys that can play both why not tak eadvantage of that? The rule sof the game are so slanted towards the Offense, Deffenses have to scheme like crazy. And then have talent to go with the scheme. Not vice versa

Falcons Hire Nolan as DC
atlbillsfan1975 replied to atlbillsfan1975's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I saw this too, but in the AJC righ tafter he was hired Mike Smith was qouted saying they wil run both fronts. They may have backe doff that a little, but i gaurantee you will see a lot of different fronts from ATL next year....and hopefully the Bills too -
Kinda struck me reading the article today in our local paper the AtlantaJournalConstitution AJC. Nolan who has been primarly versed in the 3-4 was hired by Mike Smith(primarly a 4-3 coach) and the falcons. In the article it states that Nolan will stick with the 4-3 but work in the 3-4 and use a good mixture of both. Maybe the Bills and Falcons realize that Dfenses are constantly evolving? There really is no such thing as a 'base' defense anymore. Due to rules and offenses you have to throw multiple looks at the opposition to keep them guessing? I know many of us are a little hesitant(and for good reason) to believe the bills maybe be frontrunners. But when i see an orgination like ATL making similar moves, it give sme faith...by that i mean Arthur Blank is commited to winning and does not mind spending to due so.
-
I am starting to get that sense too about Bell. They just mentioned him here in ATL as the best LT available this offseason. The one host said no thank you(he is the more knowledgeable about football). But still the fact his name was even brought up. He is a serviceable LT, good even. But when you factor in the injuries, he should get middle of the road LT money. But if it gets in a biding war i got a feeling the Bills will step out early. Then expect a LT drafted early. Which sucks because the Bills have a lot of other holes that needed to be filled.

Could We Be Closer To History Than We Think ??
atlbillsfan1975 replied to T master's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
And the long and short is NO! Sorry, nice try, and i will take my reading skills over your naiveness. The Bills 1989 and 1990 team were the same team. Sorry i jumped ahead. Go look at the 1990 draft- Glen Parker and Carwell Gardner were the only two guys to contribute. -
Could We Be Closer To History Than We Think ??
atlbillsfan1975 replied to T master's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Couple things, That Oline in 1990 was awesome. They were dominant. They allowed Kelley and Thomas to be all pro's. Don't get me wrong, kelley and Thomas were great. kelley was head and shoulders better the Fitz has ever thought about being. And no, i do not still wear zubaz pants. I think you are stretching big time if you think Driver makes the Bills SB contenders. Fitz does not have the long ball arm Kelley did. I won't even get started on the D. But lets just say, there is no Bruce Smith on this team, or Bennet. -
Why the Giants will win on Sunday
atlbillsfan1975 replied to QB Bills's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Woul dyou consider it choking? I mean the ravens have a good D, and a pretty good offense(when they are clicking). And the ravens beat NE in Foxboro the last time they were there in th eplayoffs. Brady and Belichek do not scare Ray Ray and Reed. They are on eof the few teams that do not get intimidated by NE. I really would not be suprised to see them win. If anything i think Brady gets nervous when Ray i son the field. He know Ray doesn't give a crap about Brady and will lay his butt out and chance he gets. -
I have mixed emotions about Fitz's play. At times he looked like the QB the franchise has been missing since Kelly retired. The last drive against NE in the first game, was a moment where we all said "we have a real qb". But then there were other times when Fitz looked like a back-up. making poor decisions and trying to force the ball. Some will say this was due to lack of talent and the fact injuries caught up with the team. I think QBR is trying to show a QB's numbers when the game is on the line. And when he has the opportunity to step up and show he can win a game. I think he is probably a true game manager. If given talent around him he will be a solid QB, never a super star or 'elite'(whatever the heck that means). This means the orig needs to re-sign Stevie and Bell(or draft a tackle in the early rounds), bring in another good WR, and keep Freddie happy.

Orson Charles or Dwayne Allen anyone?
atlbillsfan1975 replied to BillsNeedaQBin2012's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Being a UGA fan, i have seen Charles play many times. He is a very gifted TE. Richt does not use the TE much either yet Charles has put up good numbers. He has good hands and plays almost like a big WR. Not a great blocker, but he will go after any ball thrown his way. Having said all that, i think th eBills have other needs then taking either TE in the second round. Re-sign Chandler for fair market value. He is a middle of the road TE. -

isn't the internet grand? -
There is usually only one or maybe two 'elite' LT that come out of college every year. By elite i mean dominant starter from day one. These guys go in the top 5 picks. I do not think the Bills will have a shot at the best Tackle in the draft. Why not get one again in the 3-4 rounds, and groom him for a year or two. Heck even Hairston looked solid and he was a 4th rounder. We know the Bills have no pass rush and need one badly. Focus on D.

I like San Fran at Home, especially getting points. Harbough is a great coach and you know he has been prepairing 2 weeks for the Saints. Think the Giants will play it close with GB. They have a great front line and will not allow Rodgers all day. Think GB wins but by 7 maybe. Denver will keep it close this time. You know they are taking the us vs the world attitude into NE. And NE has shown it can be beat at home in the playoffs by a strong Defensive team. Think NE wins, but it is close. Houston vs Ravens is a total toss up. At some point the Cinderella story of Houston will end. Think they beat the Ravens this week though. Not sure why, but just dont buy the Ravens, like i did not buy Pitts.

Voted 2 DBs because Nix and/or Gailey said thats what they were going to get. Think they are correct. Need atleast one stud rush DE, and 2 olb. And they need to re-sign Stevie for around 7-8mil and get another receiver that is a similar type guy-a solid producer. I like Stevie, but see him as more a number 2 receiver, that will only get better playing beside another talented wr. A lot will depend on FA and then draft. Ie if the Bills sign a big time receiver in FA then would expect them to get the BPA at one of the other spots in the first. Could also see them picking up a DB in FA and a LB or DE in FA. All this said, it is nice to think maybe the Bills are one more offseason away from having a solid team.

He needs to update it too. Landry said he was staying at Oklahoma. Just saying.

Personaly, i think the Bills resign Bell and find a good veteran interior guy that can play center FIRST and gaurd second. This would give you 3 tackles, 2 of which can play LT (Hairston and Bell) and Pears was an average to good starter at RT. The problem was when injuries started pilling up, the Bills had no one to replace the guys that went down. First and foremost center. Rhinhardt and Urbik can both play RG. Levitre is a stud at LG. Dont draft OL early. Can't believe i am saying that either. But maybe find a guy in the 3-5 rounds that is a quality young center. If Woods keeps having injuries, you got your guy of the future. Get the defense a pass rusher and LB help. Heck even make a splash in FA and get Bowe at WR. I know, it will never happen. drafting a LT now seems like a CJ spiller pick with no style even.

Chandler Jones Syracuse DE

Why not, seems like the Giants do it every year. They only are a constant playoff contender, and play in a SB every 6-7 years. -
Trader Bill Polian and son available
atlbillsfan1975 replied to BillsVet's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The manning draft pick was also on that was heavily debated in the draft room. Up until the day of the draft Polian and his staff were going back and forth on manning and leaf. Just think how Polian would be regarded if he had drafted Leaf? All you have to do is look at Indy this year with out Manning to see how well of a GM the Polians are. The GM is also in charge of FA, Indy is horrible with out Manning, no way one player should make that much of a difference. Just look at NE when Brady went down. It is also why you see guys from the NE tree being hired elsewhere and not the Indy tree. -
Look, the difference of 7 or 16 seems like a lot on paper, and i am sure in April some good guys will go off the board between 7 and 16. There will also be pro bowlers picked in the second third and fourth and so on... Point being win today if you can, always root for your team to win. And think about it this way even, the Bills have messed up a lot of top 10 picks,so just having the 7th pick doesnt mean you will get a great player. I know that is negative but seriously. To me unless you have one of the top 5 picks, you start to see a vast degree of uncertainty in a player panning out. or living up to his draft status
-
Because Easley has shown he can stay healthy? And he has proven squat,
-
Because they dont want to come to Buffalo(Tyson Clabo) or the FO doesnt make a move for them. Even Barnett, the Bills best off-season move, was a castoff from GB and signed after many of the so called 'elite' lb's were gone.

Who are the core players on this team?
atlbillsfan1975 replied to Coach Tuesday's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Nice article and stats. Basically says that McKelvin is the typical all or nothing type of DB. While he has been burnt for some big plays he has also made some big stops. When you compare him to Greer he doesn't look so great. But McKelvin is progressing, albeit slowly and not what you want out of a round 1 pick. But i think it would be foolish to let the guy go now, when he is showing signs of being a good DB. Also the Bills might be able to benefit from him not having a totally succesful earl career, and sign him to a managable contract for 3 more years. Oh and he is only 26 his prime should be for atleast another 3-4 years.
