Wow that is amazing ! Congratulations Scott ! I had no idea you were in this type of field. Bad on me for not knowing that after being on here so many years. I am really impressed and proud to know about you and always thankful for all you have done here and for the country as well it appears ! Great accomplishment!

I agree . There are no more rookies at week 16 in the season and he played thus way since game one. Getting run on for 273 yds has to raise doubts about ability and grasp of the d concepts. I know he is not solely responsible but he really stands out for missing plays and rarely stands out for significant good play. What I believe tho is that This is a symptom of the whole process. Terrible personnel decisions since preseason. A middle lb who looks better suited for the outside yet let’s keep forcing the square peg into the round hole since Since we ordained him as the next “ Luke K “ ! Then begin the season by astutely evaluating Peterman as your starter with no vet presence on the squad ; no wrs brought in and we stuck with guys like kB , Holmes who were so good they get cut prior to seasons end ; Murphy who had been average to just totally absent most of the season; bring in Anderson who was also terrible amd wasted games before luckily ( perhaps) hitting on Barkley who we sign for 2 years after one game ; run stopping that was terrible early in season and your Carolina man Star who is avg and has been mentioned as worst free agent signing perhaps in the league; sticking with shady until he takes himself out with “ hamstring issues” behind a terrible o line hard headedly keeping someone starting based on prior years yet not performing well currently ( his worst season ) ; we can probably all agree on terrible o line , terrrible special teams , and I believe terrible d coordinator who also had to have playcalling taken from him at one point as he continues to be here despite his vaunted d who gives up tds at a 75% clip in the red zone ( but they give up so few yards ! Too bad yards aren’t counted on the scoreboard as we continue blowout losses) ; irrational playcalling at times as Mcd can’t decide on whether to play aggressive or conservative even with playoffs long gone , wasted time outs , terrible clock management, 1/10 in challenges , undisciplined play resulting in being highly penalized, having new punters be the holder for your excellent kicker ( oh backfired again today ),sending your place kicker out for a long attempt soon after he was noticeably injured ; perhaps a tendency to trade up or overvalue players that appear to be struggling to say the least as other teams seem to be better talent evaluators ( unfinished products I know but so far Edmonds , Zay Jones , and I pray not Allen , seem to have been valued when talent like Watson ,maholmes, Dallas lb Vander whom ever, are passed over )! I give credit for Foster playing now and stealing McKenzie but this was done after the season was lost making me ask why couldn’t we identify a need for speed earlier and this good is offset by horrendous evaluation at the tight end position. This was a terrible performance on many levels today and I see no reason to believe just having more cap space is going to make a difference when poor evaluations and decision making is what we have as our measurable product so far. Who would have thought Indy would be playing like this ( proof that coaching does matter and gosh I wish Frank was here and not Mcd) . To top it off the prior 1-32 browns have a better roster and look to have a brighter future even with greggo than that mess we saw perform today. Feelsbadman! I just don’t see progress with the process In developing an identity as a team moving forward. ( oh, I forgot our starting cb retiring at halftime ,,,,, looking at all this in totality is scary). So having Edmonds playing mlb and struggling all year is a warning sign to me of more of the same play we witnessed today as our future. Disheartening performance today imho ! Apologize for the rant, really like Allen, yet will he get the coaching he needs under this regime!?! Perhaps the worst pats team we have faced in quite awhile and we were never really in this game.

McDermott's Monday Segment With Schopp & Bulldog: 11/5/18
DrPJax replied to Fadingpain's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
May be one of the most idiotic theories ever, or perhaps better stated as most idiotic thought for a question or topic to a person in charge of a huge company ( the bills are a company/ part of an industry ) . What would you think he would say, yes that’s the case ? ! There are laws against discrimination by sex, age , disability, and certainly religious choice. I am sure mc d workday fall into answering these radio idiots and set up the bills and the NFL as fodder for every legal firm in America. Yeah, that’s why these guys are on the radio and not running their own companies. Ridiculous. -
Where else would you rather be , right here, right now?,,,,,,,,Anywhere.

Terrelle Pryor in Buffalo! Update: He's signing!
DrPJax replied to Roundybout's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
On espn pti trailer that bills offered Pryor a co tract. Just hit the screen. -
Not picking on you but I have seen this written so many times on this board that it is at a minimum disturbing , at its worst delusional , that just having a large cap number is associated with future success. I am not a capologist but I have read elsewhere that there are several other teams with just as much or even more cap space available next year. So how does that possibly translate to us filling every need on this poor roster by spending in free agency? Don’t you think other teams will be bidding for the same free sgents? How many free agents are going to be available to cherry pick from? Do they fit the process players McDermott Cherish’s? Will Mcbean be willing to dole out several high money contracts just to repeat the cap problems over again? So far he has hit on some fre agents but also missed on others so just having cap space is an empty promise that we have watched several teams including the bills make errors with in the past. Good teams are not built on free agency. New England has not been built on all freee agents. They sign a couple of significant players a year but mostly fill in the roster with talent they draft or take other teams castoffs and with great coaching they produce consistently. The team with the most SB rings , Pittsburgh, is known to build thru the draft and a high percentage of their drafted players remain in their roster. Compare that to the Billls draft history where most of our players are elsewhere ( many doing well after leaving buffalo , Lynch , Glenn , Gilmore, woods, Hogan , Darby , I could go on ). Yes it was before this prior regimen. But the book is still just being written with this regime. McDermott was here when we passed on Watkins and mahomes. We will see how Allen , Edmonds do and I do think they at least look promising. But cap dollars available mean maybe getting two or three top tier players at best. There will be slot of competing money out there from organizations that have been managed better than Buffalo has. I have watched here in Jax as they had a terrible roster , years of losing , yet they have turned it around with the right management and drafting good players as Buffalos roster has continued to become almost laughable. I have followed the team since ‘ 63 so other than the Polian years , I have nothing to make me strongly believe that even with a large cap space available, that will suddenly result in a dramatic turn around as many expect in 2019. I don’t understand why other organizations have turned things around quickly or maintained high levels of success while franchises like the Browns and Bills continue to be inept. They will have to prove to me that having money available means success. Just remember tho there will be plenty of competition from other franchises will cap space. It’s not the size right,,,,it’s what you do with it. So far the Bills don’t even seem to have a good motion in the ocean !

Damn! Mass Shooting at Madden Tournament in Jacksonville!
DrPJax replied to Chandler#81's topic in Off the Wall Archives
I was just thinking how occasionally ironic things happen with this franchise as I’ve followed them since the 60’s ( so I’m not a “ young man”lol ). Probably the most anticipated preseason game in years for the franchise and a day I am sure many of us were hoping for signs of a bright future , yet it ends up as a day where the team performs terribly and has the crazy unfortunate luck of having their logo being associated with a terribly sad event on that same day. I was just being tounge in cheek about that foreboding anything for the season, but you have to admit this franchise has had some crazy associations / history over the years ( see OJ whose signed jersey I won in a formal nfl auction at supebowl 27 only to see him driving in the bronco the day I was hanging his jersey up in my office. So much for that investment! ). Obviously the franchise has nothing to do with the actions of a sad young man , but it’s crazy that the ONLY pic available shows the guy holding up a BILLS jersey! You have to admit that sometimes there have been unexpected events ( losing 4 straight SB s as an example ) that we have all shaken our heads at as we have loved the franchise Over many years. It’s ironic how such an amazingly loyal fanbase keeps experiencing such awful luck at times. I love the people on here and that I’ve been lucky to meet over the years because of being a Bills fan and I really hope JA turns out being the QB who brings the Lombardi home. You have to admit tho the day was certainly a letdown and then the jersey thing just piled on! I mean what are the odds of such a tragic event happening on the same day we were hoping to be associated with glimpses of a bright future for the franchise and then the logo gets flashed across the country associated however passively with a mentally ill person. That is Bills type luck ! ? -
Damn! Mass Shooting at Madden Tournament in Jacksonville!
DrPJax replied to Chandler#81's topic in Off the Wall Archives
Rough day in Jax. They are showing pics of the shooter , a David Katz from Baltimore. He is shown holing a BUFFALO BILLS #17 jersey that says madden champ on the back. Apparently he lost earlier in the two day madden tourney. Didn’t get to see much of Bills debacle today in Jax as all covereage during game was devoted to this story. Sad day and hard image to see the kid holding a Bills jersey up. Local news is that other than 4 who died at scene will live. Just thought I would post because I couldn’t believe the guy was holding the Bills jersey in the photo they are showing of him. Hope this is not foreboding or upcoming season esp after that o line performance. -
I was thinking the same thing about the broadcast team. Pretty sure we got blown out every time they covered us. Not superstitious, just not easy listening to Romo easily dissect defenses when we stick with plays that aren’t working. On pregame he said he expect fournett to run 20-25 times. I have been a bills fan since. 1963, went to Super Bowls 27, 28 , and miss that era so much. I couldn’t make it to wing it last night ( live in Jax as FP / er doc since 1985) but I used to go to that same bar back in the run of superbowls. Glad so many people have made it down. I am am worried that the things we are poor at are their strengths. Our strengths are running and this is a tough defense with a good front 4 and great cbs. Throw in Dareus , st doug , posluzny (forget spelling ?, great guy who pit hurricane shutters on windows of my friends house during Irma ) , the town is going to turn out despite what you think. I was at the playoff game when Tennessee came down after the music city miracle and slaughtered the jags , but my point is the place was crazy and really loud. Visitors bench is 10yard behind the visitors and I sat 8rows from that bench on the forty for several years. It is loud and they will be really up for this game. If the Bills can just not get behind more than one score we might do it. But heart and a good story only goes so far You need talent and other than shady , we don’t match up against that D well. Here’s hoping the Bills Mafia has something to cheer about. ! God I really hope so ! But my brain is just telling me the jags will come out running and our passing game won’t go anywhere like usual. Go Bills. A guy from Ohio who lives in Jax and loves the Bills. Maybe once we can actually pull off a miracle ourselves ! Good luck guys

This response gives me an early insight into how the Bills will fare under “ the process”. Is this the type of guy that nspires players to play hard or ” run thru a wall” for? He is disappointed and defends Gronk by saying I know he’s a better player than that! What a joke of a response and the hoody is thinking we will continue to out physical this, team. If fact after the game Burkehead said they discussed being more physical during halftime. This milk toast answer by McD I think tells the team he is not really going to stand up for his players but is more concerned about looking pc, analytical , and always under control. I can’t see Marv levy standing there and saying something that weak if Kelly or odomes was hit like that. This guy has looked confused , managed time poorly, done unexplainable challenges and has shown no ability to make adjustments during a game, at least in this limited sample. I’m getting less impressed with each performance like today by the offense and team as they play without passion. They won’t do anything when they play in New England because they will be out of contention and getting ready for vacation. Does this guy seem inspiring to you? Whoever mentioned the Jauron comparison was right on.

Are the Bills bad or just not really good?
DrPJax replied to PlayoffsPlease's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
They are what their record shows, or worse ,so doesn’t matter how you label them. They are a very average team in a weak conference and they are no where near even being competitive with New England or Pittsburgh. I will say they have overachieved with this horrible roster. They have ONE elite player , McCoy , and they are average or below average at almost every position. I did forget hauska who is elite this year. I am sure as a team they are in the bottom ten of almost every stat category ,or they will be after another pats game and two games against a dolphins team that can score more than out usual one td or less a game. -
Eric Lee appears to be the real deal

Made a nice goal line stop that I saw. He is looking at least as good as Preston Brown. I saw at least three runs where Brown was just driven out of his gap resulting i big runs. Check around the league. Quite a few ex bills doing well with other teams. -
Should we take a look at other QB flyers?
DrPJax replied to BringBackOrton's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Bradford is done. On Ir. Can’t stay healthy. Gil Brandt on Sirius said his body is shot. At best he might be a backup q.v. but won’t start or possibly even play again. I trust Brandt. Pretty good history of knowledge to back him up. I am am wondering about our talent evaluators. Besides Dareus et al , why do so many bills ex players or cast offs do well with other staffs? Ragland playing well. ( imho more upside than Preston) , lee taken off our practice squad looks like a rusher we desperately need. Even kailin clay playing better for panthers. Throw in hogan,Woods, gillslee,Gilmore , even nickel Robyn for rams all doing ok or much better than with bills who brought in only throw away player with maybe exception of Benjamin if he gets healthy. Then we use Tolbert in role he is not meant for. DiMarco has done? Humber still in more than Milano. Tate still allowed to eturn almost every ko where we end up starting behind the twenty every time and stats show it’s harder to score from 20 yd line or worse. Marcel is loving it down here in Jax now who have a tremendous defense. Geez, this type of constant poor talent evaluation is really embarrassing. Yes they hit on white , possibly zay. But how does a guy like lee in a need position exposed on the practice squad? Mcbean not appearing all that. Great so far. If he doesn’t go for a legit qb in this draft armed with the picks he has, then I think he wiil continue the futility. This is a qb driven league. Let’s hope he makes a bstter call than he has with his failed roster moves this year. -
They better start questioning Frazier. Wtf defensive scheme is he running and why is Preston Brown , Humber both still on the field. When was the last time we made a tackle for loss, especially from the lb position. Hyde and Poyer are getting killed facing running backs with a full head of steam coming untouched into the defensive backfield. There are gaping holes and at least once I saw brown being pushed out of a play by a running back blocking in the area where Preston started the play at. Since taking Milano out the lbs can’t drop, can’t cover, and sure as hell are not plugging gaps. Worst play I can ever remember by a bills team and that’s saying a lot. How does a defensive minded head coach see this d and d coordinator as acceptable right now.? Unfortunately the the line is also a catastrophe now . They look ok starting a game ,eg the drive with shady scoring. But after that they were looking like an old line and resulted to typical holding penalties. I don’t see how you fix this slide. It’s both sides of the ball. It really does look like they may lose out. Every team they play coming up is playing at least competitive fotrball. Bills are no better than the Browns right now , and actually the Browns gave the jags a good game today. Team is being completely out coached They have enough talent with good coaching to at least not be blown out like this. This is a historic collapse and even clown Rex didn’t suffer blowouts like this. He must be laughing all the way to the bank as he deposits Pegulas money. Bad time to be a bills fan. I mean bad millennium!! This is hard to believe. BBFS.

Mike Waufle talks Bills' DL issues with Buffalo News
DrPJax replied to JoshBarnett's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I know Dareus was good at taking on double teams and gap control , yet I find it hard to believe his departure was responsible for what we witnessed the past two weeks. I say this because we had already won games with Dareus being in on what , 20-30% of the defensive snaps? The first game after the trade I think we won and people on here were posting about how much we didn’t miss Dareus. So how does a team that was performing acceptably for 7 weeks against the run completely fall apart? I think some personel changes helped contribute to the poor performances. Humber returned to the line up, looked slow, no Frazier admitted this week his hand injury is an issue. Milano had come in and played with a lot of energy and hunger , and he contributed a pick 6 and also was in on other turnovers. He was coming on and I think reinserting Humber just because he was cleared was a mistake and took a lb off the field who was playing very well. I also think the absence of Gaines has hurt the run defense as well as his ability to play zone coverage well. I can think of multiple time S seeing him come up to either make tackles or keep rbs from gaining the corner. Wright is nowhere near as good in run support. Against the saints I saw him try to throw his left shoulder into Ingram , not even attempt to wrap up , and Ingram bounced off for a larger Run. I think those two personel changes are just as if not more important than losing Dareus. One other issue I think we have all seen is how many missed tackles occured during the past two weeks. That was not happening before. I believe thee team was buying into all the hype over the turnovers they were getting and it was being covered everywhere. Any show on the NFL Network and every pregame or post game show kept talking about the huge turnover differential. There was a ton of hype about it before the jets game. It was during that game that it was a recurring issue with no one actually making a secure tackle Before trying to strip the ball. The lbs and safeties were especially guilty of this the past two games. Result has been multiple broken arm tackles and the turnovers that were coming from secure hits FOLLOWED by a second player causing a turnover has suddenly dried up as now the players have gotten away from the basic tackling they had been doing well. That mindset was evident even in the first Saints drive and continued all day. I think it’s obvious the D also was affected by the multitude of three and outs and that also allowed the Saints time and again to have excellent field position while it seemed like the Bills O was always starting behind its own 20. The game had already been decided before the history making 24 straight run plays by the Saints and it just looked like the D wanted the game to end and no one was sellling out to make a stop at that point. The secondary was gun shy after facing untouched rbs hitting them play after play. I also think white , who had been burned at least three times recently, may be playing the run softer not wanting to give up plays behind him. He had been playing more aggressively I think playing the run before getting burned for the three big plays. Not a big issue but maybe combined with the personel changes and poor offense had finally lead to the perfect storm of shame we witnessed. I can see the O improving this week under Peterman. It can’t do any worse ! That alone has to spill over to help the D. I am encouraged that McD made the switch as I doubt any prior recent coach would have had the balls to make that change right at this point. Great move ! We don’t have a history of playing well on the west coast , and with San Diego’s d being 6 th against the pass and Rivers playing , I think it’s going to be a hard win. Hopefully they have stressed tackling and gap control this week and not harped so much on turnovers. It would be encouraging to see Gaines and Milano playing more. I also hope we don’t keep bailing the Chargers offense out with stupid , undisciplined penalties after we did manage to stop them in three downs. While I agree we don’t have elite talent on our D , I still think we have enough talent to compete and since Rivers is unlikely to scramble , hopefully we will rush more than 4 and go after him some. One side note; I read that the Chargers are preparing for Peterman to just be a pocket passer. It would shock me but wouldn’t it be amazing to see Dennison use some rollouts , or some RPO because Peterman looks like he can do more than only be a pocket passer. I doubt they will be emphasizing to keep him in the pocket like they have done to TT. -
Every Nate Peterman throw from the Saints game
DrPJax replied to HappyDays's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Thx for posting this. I had not seen him play much ( and I am originally from around the Pittsburgh area but now live in sec Jacksonville) and that is a great show of his athleticism! How do we get #85 tho?!! Lol ! That guy has some speed , hands ,, good yac! One poster made a valid point about the saints d having prepared for Tyrod and so that helped account for Peterman looking good at the end of the game. Well, why not throw Peterman in for a few series at least so that defenses have to prepare for something other than this predictable Dennison playcalling? I say that as I sit watching Cam Newton running the offense we should be running with Tyrod. When cam runs he plays better. I’m not a professional offensive coordinator but I’ve watched the Bills since 1966, slept in hotels better than holiday inns, and I could be more creative than Dennison. I’m looking forward to seeing more of peterman. Seems like a wasted opportunity when your starting qb standard has a game completing ONE pass to a wr, and 60 yds or so for a game total. -

DrPJax replied to HappyDays's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I agree with you. The NFL has changed and I don’t buy into this crap about playing a rookie QB too early can damage his confidence and career. If all teams folllowed that , someone like Prescott would have been left sitting on the bench after Romo got hurt in favor of using some journeyman player who has been in the league. Find out what you might have. The offense is an abysmal failure for the majority of this season. If Peterman can’t handle it ( hard to believe he could be any worse that TT NOW) then so be it and you use those draft picks to get a legit QB. MAYBE Peterson actually does perform close to what he looked like yesterday and I don’t see how that would not get some energy and passion back in this team. No way to deny that D quit yesterday or at least resigned to the fact they were getting their ass kicked. Watch the lackluster arm tackling , punching at the ball without wrapping up. They aren’t making the tackle first and then having a second man try to dislodge the ball , they just keep going for the turnovers. Getting some offensive production and actually scoring or playing with a lead and not from behind every game may get some passion back in this D. -
Maybe nothing really changed but turnovers...
DrPJax replied to TheFunPolice's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I really think you’re on to something here. Was just watching Steve Young and Charles Woodsen on MNF. They were discussing all the turmoil that has happened with the Dolphins this year , even Gase calling his offense garbage. However, the Dolphins are 4-4 despite all the things like losing their starting QB, a coach seen snorting coke, bringing Cutler in. Young and Woodsen both pointed out when the team is facing all this mess or adversity, it all depends on the leadership capabilties of the COACH to overcome and get your team playing up to their potential despite the issues. They both noted how the Dolphins players are playing with passion still , and the players have also given credit to the OWNER as being extremely supportive making sure they each have things they need to help develop a winning culture. Young and Woodsen went on to say they do think there is a real change in culture with the Dolphins because of Gase ( remember ,this guy really called the players out and who thought after he called his offense garbage that with a win tonight they will be 5-4 as well) and his LEADERSHIP QUALITIES. MAYBE , this really does speak to what’s going on in the Bills locker room and McD,’s ability to connect with the team as a leader. When you have players saying they have no answers and they may end up 5-11 if this keeps going on, kyles statement of no energy the past two games, the terrible offense and play calling , no adjustment by the D to get pressure on the qb and having the ball run down their throat 24 straight plays yesterday , I think it’s a legit question about McD’s leadership ( perhaps even the owners interaction since it seems both the bills and sabres are struggling), and after after watching him look so passive on the sideline and then his shell shocked apppearance he had during the postgame interviews may speak to him being a rookie head coach in over his head right now. He didn’t even appear to be angry about what had just happened. I’m sure he is but his external appearance wouldn’t generate passion in my mind to want to play hard. I can’t see someone like the pats coach or Gase being so passive and almost meek after those two ass kicking loses. How can you explain those lackluster performances and all we saw was passive behavior from the players and staff. It’s just a question or theory, but when two previous hof players say it really is about the coaching and leadership in truly changing a teams “culture” , is this an early warning sign that McD’s constant talk about the process is not really a style that motivates passion and accountability in a team ? Another game like the previous two and I think the Peter principle may be true with McD having risen to his level of incompetence. I’m interested to see how the team reacts against the Chargers. -
Well one blowout maybe a fluke; two BLOWOUTS is a disturbing trend , especially when one of the blowouts was by a jets team that almost every analyst agreed was less talented than the Bills roster. I get McD needs another off season to acquire more talent, but what I am beginning to see is a flawed process in coaching and personel decisions. I am not willing to just give the coach and Gm a full pass because “ they don’t have their players for their scheme” They are responsible for the decisions to part with young talent , and they are the ones who have shown such tunnel vision so that we have Tolbert ,DiMarco ,Wright and Johnson here. How many more passes in the flat to Tolbert can you take? The rams were bottom dwellers last year but getting rid of Fischer and landing a talented head coach along with some former Bills and now they are a good looking team. Badobilz is correct, you don’t have unlimited time to demonstrate you are at least progressing. We are seeing a team regressing and what I am interested to see is how does McD Handle this mess now. I can’t remember two worse performances than what we witnessed the past two weeks. That’s not just a lack of talent , it shows a team not being able to adjust , using excuses about playing on Thursday because it “ didn’t give us time to prepare”, only to actually do worse with more time to game plan and getting clay,Benjamin playing was supposed to give Tyrod more options and open up the run game again. You have a serious offensive scheme flaw when you still have not scored a TD yet in the first quarter 9 games into the season! So i have a hard time given the past two historically bad performances ,that all we need is players for McD ‘s system. We were out coached on all levels badly; we were never in these games unlike earlier in the season. We got all those turnovers but how many times did we settle for FG’s or just three and out offensive series? Also we continue to hear prior nfl players like Romo and Barber commenting on poor Qb play, no sacks or qb pressures, and watching us drop into soft zone coverage knowing that rushing our 4 d lineman and resisting to change things that aren’t working , is not a way to instill confidence that the “process” is promising. The past two games McD has not looked like he has any answers except for cliche coach speak. Hearing the same old BS that “ I have to coach better or we just have to come together and we will learn from this “ continues the rhetoric we’ve heard during the drought Hey , I’m ok with losing this year until we do actually get a Adequate QB ( this is the first time with these repetitive terrible offensive results I firmly believe Tyrod is a huge problem and he can’t be salvaged) , but what is disturbing is how bad we look now and how we are showing no ability to do any game time adjustments . I think it will be telling if McD is willing to allow Dennison to continue on with this play calling that produces only in garbage time. . Will McD get involved after watching Frazier to continue with this only rushing 4 and letting qbs keep converting 3 rd and 15 or 20 while also playing so undisciplined with offside or personal fouls that repeatedly bail out the opponent resulting in sustained drives ? He may not have all the talent he needs yet , but he is still the head coach and hopefully he is capable of demanding accountability from his staff and the players for the product on the field. Time will tell , but if we see more play like the past two weeks , I can’t see his process being successful. Other teams have shown it’s possible to do quick turnabouts in today’s NFL and it’s hard to sell tickets to watch what we did these past two weeks. ( obviously I mean to include the gm as well). It’s hard to not “overreact “ after seeing back to back absolute blowouts. If the offense keeps underperforming for two more games , then I think you have to find out what you have in Peterson before the draft. Man that was tough to watch today! ?

Bob Costas says CTE will destroy the NFL
DrPJax replied to BuffaloBill's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I respectfully disagree. I don’t know what 20 year olds you are hanging around that are “ doing / experiencing things “and don’t like being spectators. ( if your children are like that I commend you as a wonderful parent truthfully) How do you explain the multimillion /billon dollar video game industry. People are making a living in their 20’a playing video games on places like Twitch tv with millions of viewers and thousands of subscribers sitting for hours playing or watching others play. Why are we seeing e sports being broadcast on tv? If anything this generation is less personally engaged and they will be spectators as they continue posting on Instagram etc even while at games. Do you see college football which is also huge money and funds large universities athletic programs just disappearing.? Not in our lifetime. As a doctor who has done literally thousands of pre-participation physicals , I can factually tell you every year there are several parents who get angry and will even go to another clinic if I fail someone who needs further evaluation for possible life threatening conditions if they play. And I am just ONE dr who goes thru this every year. I do believe education and income levels come into play, as mentioned previously because of the POTENTIAL of a scholarship or more. There will always be parents and their children who will disregard any medical information even at the high school level where no money is involved who will do anything to play or get their children involved for social and fiancial reasons. I have seen it consistently. I have told parents your child could be at risk for sudden DEATH without further evaluation or they have something that does instantly disqualify them, and those parents become irate and many times try to work around the PROVEN MEDICAL RISKS! If they will disregard the risk of SUDDEN DEATH, why would anyone believe the far down the road risks of CTE would dissuade them? I personally believe contact / tackle football should not be available below the age high school. Just like rules changed in little league baseball to limit how often a child can pitch because of risks associated at the elbow , some changes are necessary to protect children from parents who will ignore proven science. I’ll give you one other analogy why football won’t disappear tho. I went into medicine knowing there are risks asssociated with the lifestyle , eg long hours ,stress, high divorce rate, exposure to body fluids that are potentially lethal. I did it because I loved the science of it and I loved being able to help families at periods of crisis, and I also hoped to make a decent living given the sacrifices the profession demands. I don’t make millions of dollars as a family practice / er doc. Some people just do something because they love it and if you add the potential life changing money, there is no way the sport fades because of lack of interest by younger people. I don’t see them as more active either. Why do we have a national epidemic of childhood and youth obesity and diabetes occurring now at ages I never saw when I finished my residency in 85. The medical facts and literature don’t support your premise of young people being more active. Quite the opposite. I’m not trying to be argumentative or be an A## to you. Just posting 30 years of experience. Go bills. -
Great stuff! I have been a bills fan since ‘66 approximately. My dad was watching a game on tv and it was the jets v bills. He was for the jets and I liked the helmet , name ,and had fun rooting against my dad that day and have been with the bills since. I had forgotten about Shout ! I got it with pro football weekly to follow the nfl and actually played fantasy football back then and used those two papers for info about who to start. Actually won a city wide league in Jax being a bills homey and had several bills on my roster. I still have most of the shout papers and all the sports illustrated mags with the bills Super Bowl coverage on them stored in a storage unit. I don’t exactly remember finding TBD, but like many of you I joined back in 2001! I think you beat me by a month according to our profiles. Have been here ever since. Thanks for reminding me of Shout. ! I developed some some close friends on here including #89( Cindy) and cablelady ( Harriet ). My father passed from lymphoma in Jan 2002 and I posted about it here on TBD , , and #89 reached out with her sympathy. That part I will never forget. TBD has helped during rough times and so many fabulous hours giving me insight from some great people on the board. Scott has always been amazing and I can’t thank him enough for being my first source of all things Bills. Really love the people here and check in daily. Funny thing is I have been a bills fan all these years , actually went to SB’s 27 and 28 which I was able to take my parents to before my father passed ( Mom still alive in Ohio at age 91!), yet unfortunately I have never made it to Buffalo to actually take it all in live at least once. So still have that on my bucket list ! OP, great topic! Thanks for that and to Scott and TBD for years of fellowship thru all the ups and downs of being a Bills fan for life!?????

Pretty funny article by Florio. Didnt see this posted elsewhere, apologize if I missed it. Main thing is how getting rid of a coachlike this and actually getting a coach who is not a headline seeker, but just embraces his job and where he is. http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2017/10/26/more-revisionist-history-from-rex-ryan/ Doing this from an iPad and not sure it came across as the correct link. I think it is , maybe try copying to your browser. Again from Mike Florio.

You missed my point or question, which is how do you make the Bills better NOW with an open roster spot. I’m not arguing he shouldn’t have been traded but he has had at least a history of several good seasons and Darby had one as a rookie. I was just wondering why we might not have added or gotten something like Gaines ,Matthews , etc Obviously Jacksonville has the need or they never call. Fans down here are just as fed up with lousy teams as we are as Bills fans. Their owner has been widely criticised here for never spending money to actually field a competitive team. They obviously think they are playoff worthy and felt the need for a move now. I don’t think we were bargaining from a weak position which is what the results look like to me. I never stated the Bills were worse without MD, just asked what move would you consider with an open roster spot and current needs now !!! Also anything you say about how Dareus was affecting the lockeroom or being a cancer or whatever derogatory Name you use is nothing more than your uneducated subjective assumption. Unless you work for the BILLs or you are doing their laundry or somehow have access to the locker room and can give me quotes from players complaining about him , just projecting your thoughts doesn’t amount to any truth. Obviously we all agree he was not appreciated by the current coach etc ,but that at least is proven fact. I merely suggested it’s POSSIBLE Dareus helps solidify a defense competing against us for a wildcard spot and I just wondered if perhaps we might have gotten a little more. This is not directed at you but rather other posters stating things that 1) probably not true 2)don’t add to further any discussion They just now discussed the trade from the jags standpoint in the media here in Jax. They are last in yards/ carry in the nfl yet much better against the pass. They understand the risk and his history ( including his good history) and the beat writers feel like this was a “great move and possible steal” . Knowing Jacksonville’s weakness with the run, maybe we could have done better than a 6 th round. It is a plausible and not comical premise. Thx for your insight. -

Wow, I am not surprised he was traded, yet I am surprised we didn’t get someone like Yeldone ( rb) thrown in with 6 th ,possible 5 th round pick. That’s just my opinion comparing to what we got for trading Darby who doesn’t have the experience that MD has. The other thing that slightly concerns me is that the Jags have a very good pass rushing front 4 so adding Dareus will help shore up their run D since I think it’s evident he is not going to be relied upon for sacks at this point. The jags are much like we are this year, relying mostly on their D and we might be competing for a wild card spot this year if both teams keep playing at their current levels. I am good with getting rid of MD given his play now for the Bills, but would have rather seen him traded to a team not in contention for the same wild card position. MD will quickly find out there is no being late for anything given Coughlins presence back down here, so we can hope Dareus continues to be Dareus which is possible, or he finds out it’s pretty easy to get into plenty of distractions believe it or not in Jacksonville. It’s not the same place, red neck, good ol boy town it was when I moved here from Ohio in ‘85 to start my medical Career. How do you guys think this will make the Bills better this year ? Just asking as a long time Bills fan; I don’t think the cap space means that much now or next year, and with an open roster spot who would you like to see added? We are really thin In the D backfield which I think will hurt us this week unfortunately. That seems a likely move to me even with the glaring receiver need as well. They probably need bodies there despite the latest addition cb who will take some time to fit in the current scheme. Any news on Streater since the workout? I think he would get snaps more quickly ( wr, special teams) having been at training camp, as opposed to someone from a different practice squad for example. Lots of smart posters here and I’m jus interested in your thoughts ? ( I haven’t seen any other moves yet, so sorry if I missed that )
