This is why, if things don't go well for the defense yet again when it matters, I am in favor of McDermott transitioning to CEO type of HC and going and getting the best DC there is and letting that guy run his system here, just like Brady does on offense. That way you get all of the best of McDermott while the defensive system hopefully gets upgraded to something that can stop the top offenses using as much of the current talent as possible. Pete Carroll's background is defense but he isn't really thought of by many as a "defensive HC." Who ever talks about "Pete Carroll's defenses"? Build a great team and let McDermott lead it.
