Game (two week) thread - Ravens at Bills SNF
Nihilarian replied to BillsFan619's topic in The Stadium Wall
This game is also concerning to me as it could be the defining factor in gaining home field advantage throughout the playoffs. I know, I know way to early to be thinking of the end of the season...it's never too early! Then the next game is a division game on the road @ the NY Jets followed by the Dolphins at Buffalo. Could be a tough first three games considering how poorly that Buffalo secondary has looked in preseason. Buffalo lost the opener to the NY Jets in 2023 and to the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2021 and this loss was at home. Buffalo lost the home opener to the Ravens at Baltimore in 2018. Buffalo also lost an away game opener to the NY Jets in 1017. Now, considering Josh hasn't played in any preseason games and could be rusty and have timing issues with his new receivers is another factor. I'm hoping that the Bills come out and destroy those first three teams and go on a tear this season and win that home field while remaining injury free. It would be nice to finish a season that way. Home field and an AFC Championship game in Buffalo is my hopes for the 2025 season. -

And likewise, no disrespect to YOU, but...the smallest of motivation edges can mean the difference in a game between two high quality and evenly matched teams. Of course the Bills will be "up" for the game. It's a home opener, it's against a great opponent, and they're a self-motivated bunch. But if you've listened to Ravens players talk -- starting with Lamar Jackson -- you know that this game is super personal for them and they're treating it as a Revenge Game. Let's also not pretend like the Bills haven't come out a little flat in recent years' season openers. They lost to the Zach Wilson Jets, for goodness sake! -

My 12 team home league roster. Full PPR, one flex. Was planning to go RB heavy early because WR is so deep this year, but the rest of the league beat me to it, so I pivoted. WRs first three rounds. Wound up with my usual Zero RB build: Three elite receivers, good tight end, fill the bench with upside and dart throw running backs. QB: Fields/Lawrence/Young RB: Kamara RB: Pacheco WR: Nabers WR: London TE: Andrews Flex: McConkey D/ST: LAC K: Tyler Loop Notable bench: Chris Olave, Tyrone Tracy, Jordan Mason, Braelon Allen, Dylan Sampson, Kyle Monangai (like I said...RB upside and dart throw plays) This strategy tends to work pretty well for me most years because WR tends to be more stable health-wise than RB. I think Pacheco is gonna remind everyone this year why he had a 2nd round ADP the year before, and I think London is gonna lead the league in WR targets. Overall, I feel good. And ESPN ranked my roster dead last, which is how I know I'm onto something! -

Things like that happen pretty often here. Typically, during prime time games I like to be on the boards of whoever is playing. Kinda monitor what their fans think in real time. Last year more often then not the thread here would have more pages than the sites for the teams actually playing. Don't know if that's a good thing (we are active! Yay!) or a bad thing (there's nothing better to do, we have no lives)....but it's A thing lol -

I am extremely suspicious of this conclusion, as I have seen similar things in the past. In the link, at least as far as I could tell, there is no mention of aid totals that are separate from official gov numbers. The US grants aid as a government, and that is what seems to be reported in this link. US citizens also have thousands of avenues to provide such aid that are not reported as official gov aid, largely religious. Other countries do not have near that participation. I believe that if total aid from US citizens, including not formal gov aid was included in these numbers, it would drastically change the conclusion. Most US citizens support charities that are not part of any gov report.

Yes, Ravens are built tough and look very good on paper. I expect a tough battle. We "usually" keep Lamar contained... I'll give McD credit for that. But their D is stout. Our CB's are a question as well as safeties. We will see. I am nervous. If we lose, it's gonna be a crappy week in between the next game. Lot's of questions will be asked. No disrespect - but who the heck said that the Ravens are more "up" for this game?? Makes no sense at all. It's not peewee football. (Not at you btw... just in general because I've heard this a lot the past few weeks). Week one means a LOT this year. It's a head-to-head with our AFC rival. It means a LOT! The Bills know this and will be "up". Gonna be a great game. GO BILLS! -

Predictions: - Collinsworth says "Patrick Mahomes" at least three times, despite the fact that he's not playing in the game. - I am sick of Collinsworth by the third minute of the 1st quarter. - Ravens are more "up" for the game than the Bills due to getting knocked out of the playoffs by them last year. - Ravens win, NFL prognosticators overreact, declare Ravens Super Bowl favorites and ask "is the Bills' window closed?!" - Bills proceed to finish the season 13-4 and claim the number one seed because week one barely means a thing. On to Sunday night. GO BILLS!!! -

My one league this year is trying a single RB and one RB/WR along the standard 2 WR, Flex, TE, along with adding another IR spot, to address the RB shortfall that has been increasing. I like the idea. -
Snubbed by NFL.com writers. How will Allen psychologically recover?

My predictions for this game: Bet the over (51.5, last I looked) Keon Coleman explodes. The Bills' front seven are going to make Derrick Henry look old. Win or lose, one of the media talking points out of this game is going to be, "has Derrick Henry lost a step...?" Lamar Jackson throws for 280+ yards. Jackson is sacked twice-- Allen not at all. At least one Bills secondary player, who has been crapped on by this board, exceeds expectations, and has a very good game. For good, or ill, special teams is going to make a huge difference in this game. Throughout the telecast, the words, "Super Bowl," are going to be used waaaay too much. -
Now that we know the initial 53-man roster, and the practice squad is set, it's prediction time. This is the time every year that I make my one (1) prediction for the Bills regular season. My track record is pretty good - I'm generally +/- 1 win from the Bills' actual total. (Full disclosure: I was off by 2 last year. If we'd made the Cooper trade in preseason, I would've kept my streak alive, but such is life.) I don't go game-by-game; instead I try to look holistically at the Bills as a team for the full season. I do take overall strength of schedule into account, but upsets happen both ways, so I think it's futile to predict the results of each week well in advance. Likewise, injuries happen, guys have big games here and there, etc. There's some averaging out, but overall a really good team tends to win more than a fairly good team, which tends to win more than a mediocre team, and so on. So with that preamble aside, I'll go on record: I'm predicting 12 wins from the Bills this year.

Top to bottom they are a better built team. We have a slight edge at QB, but no where near the rest. We better pray Beanes offseason DL moves pay off and McDermott has some new stuff up his sleeve. -

It is kind of amazing that Allen had seven guys ahead of him, especially when you see who they are.

I agree - this is a BIG game. Determines, or can determine, the season we will have. You lose this game to our rival out of the gate and questions will be asked all season. We need this one... -

Sorry I just dont feel good about this game. The beat us in the regular season, nearly beat us in the post season and they are coming in pissed to make a statement. Worst game on the schedule to start the season. For those claiming "its just the first game" Thats fine until end of season when head to head tiebreakers determine the #1 overall seed. I still don't get how for what seems like 3 years now our secondary keeps getting injuries, moreso than any other position it seems. -
I gotta get in on this: Caruso Liberace Cher Madonna Axl Slash Houdini?

I had no idea Peyton Manning won the MVP 5 times. 😱 I usually hate moral victories, but Josh getting the MVP last year definitely eased the pain of losing a controversial game to the Chiefs.
