I counted 4 ex-Bills (may be more but I didn't recognize their names) on the rosters of the California Redwoods and Las Vegas Locomotives

LB Liam Ezekiel

DT Wendell Bryant

QB JP Losman

DT Lavale Sape

There's nothing else on TV anyway, so might as well watch :P

I actually enjoyed the game. The leagues uniforms are not too bad - given the game plan they had. The problem is - it was a terrible game plan! Worst marketing ever!

I'm going to give the league a chance, but the public probably won't. I think it's better in the fall because that's when football is played. People are outside doing other things in the summer. It could work in the spring and summer if the games were at night, like this one, but I don't see another spring season really working. It conflicts with baseball too much. Most baseball teams are done playing right now.

But cold weather games are on the way for the UFL! That could hurt ticket sales or it could help. Time will tell.

My thoughts:

* Was great to see JP, but even against lesser competition he's still the same guy....has a huge arm and can look great on one play, but when the play requires him to use his brain, he can look really, really bad. Maybe Fassel can help him...I wish him the best.

* I really like the commissioner guy. I think it's great how he said he hopes the UFL can help players transition back to the NFL. To me, it's important that they focus on being a complement to the NFL, not fool themselves into thinking they can compete.

* The quality of play really wasn't half bad. For having only three weeks to train before the game, it was relatively well-played and entertaining.

* I agree with everyone who said they'd much rather have Fassel instead of Dicko. I'd love to have either Haslett or Fassel in house, and maybe even Denny Green.

* The color schemes were definitely ridiculous. Of all the colors to pick from, and with only four teams to outfit, why in the fug do they have the same shade of blue on both unis? Stupid...

* I kinda like that they're playing in the Fall instead of the spring. Somehow it makes it feel more viable....not sure why.

* Pretty sure I'll definitely watch again!

Yep. Same old JP. That leopard didn't change his spots.

The quality of play was surprisingly good. Teams were organized and the game flowed well.

With 4 teams, how about a little distiction in the uni's? Had to watch it online (maybe it was different on TV but) when 4 or 5 players got bunched together on a long (camera) shot, it was hard to tell who was who.

At first I was thinking the same thing, but there was a difference, he snapped out of it and

started playing good football. In Buffalo once the fumbling, stumbling started it was over

I enjoyed the game, if I have time to watch one when it's on again I will. They could have used another 5,000 people in the stands though. Maybe give away tickets to people that are losing at the casinos?

slot machines every third row ought to fix that

Hey. whatever works.

It would do well by the NFL for the UFL to succeed in my opinion. The UFL should be open to new ideas to help promote the game. Give every team options to make them stand out and please the crowd. I know this may sound crazy, but for instance allow the Las Vegas Locomotives to wear small, safe colorful flashing lights to represent the City. ( just an example)

I enjoyed the first game, but I'll have to admit watching Losman made the game more interesting.

Seen allot of familiar names and like another poster posted, the coaches are all probably better than the Bills HC is at this time.

Denzel Washington interview I thought was pretty cool.

I have a mini sized Bills helmet with the charging buffalo outlined with small leds that flash.

JP has 2 TDs and a FG in his last 3 drives, all he needed was more time!

K some thoughts about the UFL. I live in vegas so I was at the game. The gameplay was surprisingly good. I paid 30 bucks to be on the 35 yardline in row 2 to the field. there was 15000 people there(Sam Boyd Stadium holds about 35,000). The players were turning around and acknowledging the fans and coming over after big plays and high fiving fans. This to me was the most impressive thing about the UFL they have this "it's all about U theme for the fans", refeshing considering nfl players hardly give you the time of day. Losman looked pretty good after the 1st quarter. Is Gabe Long an ex Buffalo Bill? and there was a sports center worthy hit in the final quarter on a California kickoff return. Las vegas player # 23 Sumrall was his name i think just crushed the California return man. He came to the sideline all amped up after giving the guy a snotbubble. He was standing on the sideline and since I was right there I yelled "hey Summrall,, duh na na duh na na" and he smiled and and came over and high fived me. also final note Las vegas has a tight end that should be on an Nfl roster # 87 forget his name but he abused California's secondary............best part was after the game the Loco's players came over and talked with everyone thanking them for coming to the game. To me the best part.

I watched much of the game. I thought it looked better than I was expecting. Not too different from a lot of NFL games that you see each week and maybe a little more wide open. I also liked how they gave behind the scenes access to the coaches, especially at half time.

My primary complaint was that it was tough to tell the teams apart on my non-high def TV. It looked like both teams were wearing white jerseys and white helmets.

i hope the league sticks. It's good for the NFL to be pushed a little and could give more opportunities to watch college stars that aren't necessarily NFL style players. It could be really interesting.

Sounds pretty cool. The TV broadcast was good too because they had the coaches miked up, and even brought the cameras into the locker room. It was neat to get a inside look.

Watched the game at a bar with a few friends and here some quick thoughts:

  • I want to know whose idea it was for both teams to wear light colored jerseys? Awful decision. Awful color schemes. Tough to watch. Hope they correct this problem by game 2.

  • I would definitely watch another game, especially on Thursday nights, but it helps that JP is playing. Not sure if I'd watch otherwise unless there's a few names I recognize (especially at the QB position)

  • People were laughing at the jerseys when they first came out. How hard is it to design a cool looking jersey? I know they likely have a low budget but c'mon..

  • The lack of people in the stands also caused some laughter but I can't blame the UFL for this. It's a tough sell at this point. It's amazing to me that 14,000 people actually attended this game (and some paid!).

  • Why were the coaches wearing bowling shirts? Looked a bit silly. I would say that the refs wearing red was only slightly cooler.

  • I'm not sure what JP will get out of this but he can succeed at this level, which isn't saying much but at least he can hope to correct some of his issues under Fassel.

  • Looking forward to the Nielsen rating for the game. I'm predicting 0.8 which may be a generous prediction.
