Why are people protesting Mike Vick?

Vick deserves all the protest and disgust that is being heaped upon him and more. What he was responsible for is vile and disgusting, indicative of a poor excuse for a human being, and attempting it to justify it as a "cultural" background issue because certain redneck elements in the south and virtually all inner city poor neighborhoods throughout the country glorify it is nonsense and equally vile. Yes, he has paid a heavy price. I am sure he is sorry about that. Time will tell if he has learned anything other than self preservation. I am not convinced yet.

As for second chances, certainly he or anyone else who pays their penalty deserves an opportunity to start again. To say he deserves another opportunity to make millions of dollars playing pro football and be held up as an idol to millions of kids is well beyond second chance. If any one of us were fired from our jobs and lost our career for such gross criminal misconduct you can bet the ranch you would never get another chance at that. That opportunity is gone forever. Just more proof that the NFL and Roger Goodel are nothing but hypocrites.

I hope for his sake he does get his life together, demonstrates real remorse, and makes himself into a positive role model going forward. I will not be rooting for his success on the football field.

Effing great post. On a side note, hey Beerball, ever heard of the Humane Farming Association? Or the myriad other organizations like them? Or CKA (Controlled Atmosphere Killing)? There are PLENTY of people who recognize that eating meat does not at ALL have to mean condoning torturous treatment of the animals.

Well see there you missed the except fighting part. I eat meat every day & have no qualms about it. But if you like take a look inside a slaughter house or feed lot or processing plant you won't like what you see about how animals are treated. Ever drive down the road following a truck carrying chickens to the plant? Better keep your wipers on bub cause it's gonna get messy.

Maybe more to your point...stud can't cut it? Off to the processing plant. Hung? Damn right they are. Beaten? Goddamn right they are.

Get off your high horse. He screwed up, was involved in an activity that I find reprehensible. He paid his debt. He is actively employed.

If you're gonna shed a tear do it for the victims of Leonard Little or Pacman Jones or Stallworth or Craig MacTavish. There are plenty more I'm sure. Shed a tear for the abuse victim, those affected by drug abusers. Ray Lewis is looked upon as one of the faces of the league. Like the way he acted a few years ago? Yet he's lauded. He wasn't convicted afterall. Give me a friggin break.

The NFL is a priveledge? Tell that to the guy who retired 30 years ago and can't walk. Can't get insurance. Can't get the league to help. IT IS A BUSINESS. No different than any other except for the fact that it is public.

It's obvious you're either related to Vick or an obsessed fan of his. IMO, any NFL player that royally screws up (like Ray Lewis, Donte Stallworth, Mike Vick) should be banned for life. There's a huge difference between animal cruelty, dogfighting and how animals die in the slaughterhouse, it's called "THE LAW". Since you got your panties in a bunch about how animals are killed at a slaughterhouse, then go join PETA. You act like it's no big deal what Vick did. If anyone of us did those things that Vick did and tried going back to our old job, we wouldn't be able to because we would have been fired. Dogfighting is a Class six felony, animal cruelty is a misdemenor, but hey, according to you, it's okay that Vick did this stuff. He served a little time in jail, so he should be able to come back and make millions of dollars. Phuq Vick and all of his supporters! He's a sick, piece of sh@t.

You know, Michael Vick could really turn this whole thing into a HUGE victory for animals by assisting the HSUS, ASPCA, and all the other humane organizations in their fight to end dogfighting. All he has to do is make PSAs and empassioned speeches at places like elementary, middle, and high schools, becoming a spearhead for public awareness campaigns, etc.

The thing is, with all these morons out there already cowtowing to him, coddling him for "all that he's had to endure", and NOT talking about how utterly sickening he was behaving (and for God's sake the guy has KIDS), he might start to feel like he doesn't have to do any of that, and once again, a great opportunity for this society of ours to evolve and grow will just pass us all by.

I'm glad he's back in the spotlight, as I said before. And I hope the heat goes UP on him for what he did and the animal rights people come out in STORM to protest.

Can we stop comparing cases that are COMPLETELY different?

Btw, most people do not value an animals life more than a humans., however, to accurately answer that question I would need to know " Who is the human?".

I have one life to spare....Charles Manson or my dog.

Goodbye Charlie.

No one puts animals above human...the Vick worshippers show their lack of integrity as well as their lack of common sense by accusing people of that.

Vick should have been banned for life from the NFL - period, end of story.

He is nothing but a thug. His brother too...

Does ANYONE think this guy would be working a "normal" job if he didn't have his talent? He'd be just another thug punk. You can see thousands of guys like this by going in areas like the East side of Buffalo.... Our American cities are being turned into war zones from all the shootings. Shootings that typically result from a bad drug deal, someone looking at someone wrong, or just random thugs riding around ---

Guys like Vick are less than human. Sorry.

Can't you folks who are all for forgiving Vick see what he did over YEARS??? He TORTURED animals. They screamed for their lives. He bashed a living animal against a wall. He ELECTROCUTED them. ----- And he could put on his Falcons uniform, play a Sunday football game and a couple of day later he'd be right back to this sub-human behavior?

Are you kidding me?

Forgive him?

He is SICK and a savage.

And to compare this to hunting is a JOKE. I don't agree with hunting at all, but the two are miles apart...

Vick should have done 3-5 years, if not more. He should have NEVER been let back in the NFL, but hey the NFL is a big business....

couldn't agree more :) Goodell really dropped the ball by reinstating him

As I thought. BTW, I am not adverse to him getting another chance. I think he should have been suspended a bit longer, say this season. I did not want him as a Bill. You are the one who keeps implying it is racist. This is not a racial issue.

the people who try to put race into everything are the true racists

Almost every serial killer started out by torturing and killing animals.
yep...and the Vick-lovers would let Vick start killing homeless kids before they would punish him.

I am confused, there are people protesting the Eagles and Mike Vick. While i dont condone what he did, there are worse people in the NFL. Was anyone in St.Louis protesting when Leonard Little killed a woman while driving drunk?....Or Stallworth? It was ok for Brett Favre to abuse painkillers? Its ok if you have 9 bastard children?....Lets put all of that aside, i love animals i have 4 dogs, 2 of which have 3 legs, and yes even a handicapped pitbull who was negected and abused. She had her front leg amputated as a result. But i do not consider what Vick did to be worse then what others in this league has done. I just think he is an easier target. I believe he paid his dues to society and raised awareness to animal abuse. Im sure if i wasent a little buzzed i could think of other examples. But overall i think you get my point...Right Ray Lewis?

Vick did something different. Those other people happened one time. Vick killed dogs day after day after day and didnt even think about it. That is a sick person. His debt to society has not yet been paid. Yes of course he got married to Luther in the pen. His debt will be clear when he is banned from earning anything in the NFL. He needs to go. The Eagles will regret this, what goes around goes around.

Look, the man did some pretty sick s :) t. I am not going to deny that. If Vick had done those things to people, he would be sitting in Old Sparky. Hell, anyone would.

So, understand that I in no way condone his actions.

But seriously. The man was caught, was prosecuted, served time and was released. He's paid his debt to society. The Eagles can dump him at any time before the season without giving him a red cent. Wherever he goes, this is going to hang over him. He's going to have PETA swarming everywhere he goes. That's the real punishment.

What Ray Lewis and Leonard Little did led to Goodell coming up with the Personal Conduct Policy IMO. Brett Favre was hurting himself not others so I don't think he is in the same boat. Stallworth was just suspended for the 2009 season. I think people are upset with Vick because they don't think he deserves to be in the league. He has his "second" chance by serving his sentence but people want him to go away and do something else. Perhaps people view playing in the NFL as a privelege as well as possessing a certain level of skill. I have dogs myself and I have mixed feelings on the whole issue. I'm glad the Bills did not sign him.

IMO, a lot of people think Vick just made one simple mistake. He has a long list of sick stuff that he did and Vick acted like it's normal to do what he did. Electrocuting dogs to death with jumper cables, hanging dogs with nylon cords, drowning dogs in a 5 gallon bucket, throwing a family dog in a ring to get shredded by ravaging pit bulls and fighting pit bulls is not one simple mistake, that is a very sick, twisted person that should not be fit for society. I do hope that he can turn his personal life around and Tony Dungy can make a difference to him, but IMO he doesn't deserve another chance to make millions of dollars by playing in the NFL.

Here are some reactions by Philly fans;

Name : Rae

Hometown : Toms River

Your Thoughts : How did he get hired back so quickly ? If he was an average person it would not happen. Should have stayed in jail longer. He has no remorse for what he did. The only remorse he has ; is that he got caught. That type of person that could kill for years can never change. He would still be doing it with a smile on his face.

Name : Joanne

Hometown : Sheridan, MI

Your Thoughts : What a horrible person Michael must be to harm animals, and then for money on top of that. God's creatures are precious.

Name : S. DeGraaf

Hometown : Grand Rapids, MI

Your Thoughts : As a football loving family, who also breeds, shows, and loves dogs, we are OUTRAGED that Mr. Vick has been signed! He is a MURDERER of dogs! We are boycotting the NFL completely! Shame on the NFL and shame on the Eagles!

I only read 5 responses so far but I couldn't find a supportive one yet.

People let it go. He will not get the Chair like some of you losers are hoping for and he will continue to play football because he is gifted.

if hating Vick makes your pathetic and worthless existence have more meaning then please continue!

He did the crime, he has done his time, it is time to move on.

Please

Damn, the right side banner is Omaha Steaks. Weird world.

Anyhoo, I read quite a few and almost all are negative. Vick and the eagles may be in for a tough road. He had best light it up when he is out there or he is !@#$ed.

What he did was sickening and even before the dog fighting indictment he was a jackass. I thought that the commissioner gave him a rather light sentence. I thought he would have been justified in a lifetime NFL ban. Vick has paid a price for what he did. Plenty of people will protest and that's fine. What's important now is how he responds to all that has happened. If our criminal system works, the ultimate test is whether or not a person behaves differently after incarceration. Time will tell.

Please

So move on, you !@#$ing asshat. All you do is insult people for finding Vick's behavior reprehensible and unforgiveable, and in the process incite people to hate you, as well. Talk about a loser. Are you !@#$ing kidding me?
