Jack Kemp RIP

Recommended Posts

Likewise, I'm absolutely flummoxed that anyone would use this thread to discuss politics. Folks, please keep your political views to yourselves while we celebrate the life of a fine, decent, giving human being, a superlative statesman, and a QB who ran the Bills offense on a supply-side theory, resulting in back-to-back league titles.

I had the great pleasure and honor of working with Jack's Congressional campaigns. I would not go so far as to say I knew him well, but met him often during my years in our Nation's capital in the early 1980's. I can tell you that he was an indefatigable idealist, had an infectious enthusiasm, and that there was not a malicious bone in the man's body. He was a nearly 'rabid' opponent of racism during his career in pro football, and afterward. Those who condemn his conservatism, do not come close to knowing the man and his unlimited compassion for the downtrodden and less fortunate.

And, oh yeah, he absolute LOVED Buffalo, and the Bills. Was even part of an investment firm with Mario Cuomo and Hank Aaron established mainly to buy pro sports franchises, and which I believe he was going to use to attempt to buy the Bills.

I'll miss him, but am relieved that his suffering is over. I'm sure he's in a better place, talking politics and football with Tim Russert, Lou Saban and Linda Bogdan.

God bless you, Jack French Kemp. Requiescat In Pace.

Amen Brother! I treasured the annual xmas cards with the regular us stamp versus metered mail!

When I moved to the DC area, I used to love the annual "Buffalo Congressional Party" Democrats and Republicans use to get togather and put politics aside.... Just Buffalonian's it was great! Don't think they do that anymore...

Wrong place for a political debate. Save this misguided, misinformed, and fear mongering thought for the political boards.

It appears you're misinformed and greatly so.

The numbers don't lie and Kemp's policies would serve our country no better than now. Obama and the current congress are a train wreck in the making. Wake up and take a close look. Sooner or later, you run out of everybody else's money. Kemp understood this. He was a great communicator and a man of principle. All things that made him a very good QB at his small size.

Kemp authored the tax bill that PROVED that money in the hands of people that work hard and produce (reducing the top rates from 70 to 28%) INCREASES tax revenue coming in to the U.S. Treasury. This piece of legislation alone vaulted Jack Kemp into the national spot light in U.S. Politics and best part of it all...his plan WORKED!! Not only will I remember him for wearing #15, but I will remember him because his economic conservative principles were right and they WORKED!!

He believed you can't tax and spend yourself into prosperity. He didn't believe in socialism.

The numbers prove it...the economy proved it and today we have B.O. that is reversing everything Jack Kemp believed in.

Prove Jack wrong if you disagree...better yet, read his conservative policies and tell us where he is wrong!

Damn right he will be missed...he was a voice of reason and logic today in a time of utter social tax spending madness.

I will succumb to discussing politics for a brief moment, since you - and Jack Kemp - are so absolutely correct on a principle that escapes most simpletons...

(and, BTW, Jack - in that raspy voice - would absolutely love this debate...)

You make $10 bucks, you pay $2 bucks in Federal Income Taxes. It's the least you can do to fund the military funeral of your friend and neighbor that gave his life in Iraq.

Another guy (SKOOOOOOBY, for example, in his own Walter-Mitty-like-imagination), makes $1M, he pays $200K in Federal Income Taxes .)

No loopholes, period. You earn little, you pay little. You earn gazillions, you pay your share. You thrive, you pay. Flat Tax. Kemp was the most vocal proponent of this fairest of tax schemes almost 30 years ago.

It was, and is, brilliant, and fair, and would generate more than enough revenue to fund our national defense and social safety net. And that's ALL that needs to be funded - screw the pork, and the patronage.

(But, again, this is neither the time nor place to debate or contradict the politics of a great and decent man - if you disagree with his views, it's because you're an idiot.)

In 1973 I was on a high school class trip to the capitol building. As the group walked down the isles, we past Jack's office. I turned right and walked in the office, I was talking to his secretary Jack heard the conversation and came out and greeted me. We talked about Government of course since I was on a Government class trip, but we also talked about the Bills, O.J. and Lou Sabin. A good ten minutes, until the teacher came and found me. He was as nice as could be, and made a lasting impression. My Best wishes to the Kemp family.

God Bless this wonderful man and we should all be thankful for him as a GREAT ambassador for Buffalo. It still amazes me how a California guy ends up in Buffalo and considers Buffalo home. He was a great family man, QB, Buffalonian and QB and politician.

Some very tough losses for this community this past year with Jack and Tim. May they RIP and may we live our lives and boost our community as they would have wanted. I physically felt sick on hearing the news Sunday morning. Thoughts and prayers with his family and friends. Thank you for all you gave to us Jack.....you will always be remembered!!!

Too bad the Pro Football Hall of Fame doesn't have a section to honor former players for what they accomplished AFTER their football careers. Jack Kemp would be inductee #1.
