Except for the Cheescake Factory, I have never heard of any of them. Any comments... "Six high-profile restaurants, all newcomers to upstate New York, are being added to the mall as part of a $60 million expansion. The new restaurants are..." Happens to be one in the Newport on the Levee complex directly on the riverfront on the Newport, KY side of the Ohio. Kind of a high end mexican restaurant. There are lots of local Mexican places here in phx that are better, but I doubt if you will get a better one in Buffalo.... We've a Melting Pot around here that my wife and I go to every now and then. Our bill (two of us) for the dinner and two glasses of wine is always over $110. I had to take it out the back. I had heard Pennys was sinking and I saw a concrete slab wall out of kilter. The big nut that held on the metal connecting the slabs had popped off I'm talking a 6 inch nut, not a small one. People who live in Cheektowaga hate that rathole. Raised the taxes , ran business out of town (Thruway Mall) and caused massive road construction to be necessary. That place was SO good when it first opened here in Texas. First one was in Dallas. Great queso and enchilladas. They changed the queso though, not as good as it used to be. Its still a good place, but I don't go there as much as I used to because of it. Melting Pot is a pretty good fondue place, but somewhat expensive if I recall correctly. PS I'm not sure why you call it a rathole? It is by far the most successful mall in the area. Also, the Thruway Mall was already dying when the Galleria opened. You are the model of sunshine... 742738[/snapback] The land was owned by Cheektowaga Central and was given to them by Victor Reinstein. He gave it to them to be used for the good of the community. A private mall is not that. The school district, instead of having a public debate about selling the land, put a small ad in the Cheektowaga Times (the minimum by law they had to do). When the stink was raised , the board said "We did every thing legally". The football field had to be moved. So instead of insisting that a new field be built first, then digging where the old one was (which is part of the parking lot now), the school had to play the whole season on the road. Even though the town residents were against it,the board voted for it. The mall is built over a creek. That part is steady, but the the rest started sinking as soon as it was built. They had to pump sand under Pennys for a lomg time to stabilize it. You could walk down the concourse and see where the part over the creek began. It had cracks on the floor right across it. The first year or two it opened the fabric roof leaked and the water caused tiles to pop out all over the floor. My 75 year old aunt broke her ankle on those tiles. They had to landscape the exit where Target is now and I have heard stories that they covered up a bunch of lead based paint in the ground from the former steel plant that was located there. I know someone that was a county surveyor and had to survey Galleria Drive after the curbs were poured and before the blacktop was laid. They were waiting for him to finish so they could start paving that day. The roadbed had tons of wood and other construction debris. They were going to pave right over that, but he wouldn't sign off on it until they cleaned it up. The place is a rathole, shoddily built. It caused a lot of business to close up. The Thruway mall wasn't dying when the Mall was proposed. It caused a lot more crime in Cheektowaga. They had to hire several more cops just for the mall. Pyramid has a record of problems in other cities. The Crossgates mall in the Albany area wsa very controversial when built. They built a mall in western MA that had an anchor store sit empty for several years. The store was sinking (sound familiar) and the town building inspector wouldn't ok the store opening until it was fixed. Pyramid refused to fix it. The inspector basically said that he was not going to be paid off to OK it. As I metioned previously, they have a history of stifffing contractors. I just don't like the place.
