He had some college players with NIL money, and he’s just started getting some high school kids who are cashing in. It’s a brave new world out there. Quote

Ah yes, the high schoolers are being rewarded as well. Part of me hates it, as these opportunities didnt exist when i played high school/college, the other part of me loves it as I know plenty who are being rewarded by their work ethic and dedication. I used to be one of those dudes saying they should just value the FREE EDUCATION they are getting in college. But alot of these kids have bigger dreams. Hats off to them. Quote

It seems you may not understand me. I don’t begrudge anyone the right to be compensated or the right to the same mobility their coaches have. They deserve that. I just don’t enjoy the resulting product nearly as much. That’s fine because we all have plenty of other things to do. I don’t mind it in the macro as much in college sports, but I used to like to know who was on my college basketball team. I used to be proud that we graduated them. Watch them develop. It’s a new pickup game with the best your money could buy each year, and I don’t know one guy’s name on my team, because I haven’t bothered to watch a game yet. I stopped caring. That can’t be good in the long run. . Edited yesterday at 12:34 AM by Augie Quote

Also stating that a couple years ago I was against NIL and thought players should be grateful for the education. I have opened my eyes recently to a different opinion. If schools are fine with it and willing to pay. Its really no difference to professional sports now without a salary cap. Schools/teams with the most money, get the best players. Its up to the players to choose the money, national exposure, community, school pride, etc. Which I am totally fine with. Quote

Sorry if that came off wrong or unclear, but I’m just disappointed that something I used to enjoy so much has been corrupted (on a micro level) to something I don’t care for very much. Quote

No need for the apology! I totally get what your saying. I agree with the fact that I also dont enjoy college sports nearly as much as I used to. Go Bills! Quote

I’m from Westchester County……my son actually played 7v7 with and against a lot of kids from Iona Prep……they are definitely paying a car payment, rent payment etc over there. 👀 1 Quote

There's far more competition (teams from the City, Westchester, Northern Jersey) for top local players downstate than upstate. It's not like Iona or other City Catholic League teams are pulling talent away from Buffalo NY. Having said that, watching the game yesterday, the quality of football at this highest level is pretty mediocre. Quote

Tenhigh Posted 17 hours ago Posted 17 hours ago Used to wrestle guys from St. Francis in the late 80s early 90s. Didn't they draw kids from all over the east? Quote

They did have the boarding school during that time. They ended it somewhere around 1990, I forget the exact time. They restated it in recent years, so yeah, they’re pulling in kids from out of town again. Quote

That's crazy to call it mediocre when there's probably 8 FCS football players And a few FBS lol Their states that don't have 5 division one football players in the entire state That Iona versus Saint Francis game has like I said probably seven or eight FCS guys and two or three FBS guys And probably two dozen guys that will play division 2 or division 3 football That's not mediocre bro Edited 10 hours ago by Buffalo716 1 Quote

I know McQuaid from Rochester has played and won NYSPHSAA titles in the past. CBA Syracuse is actually ranked higher than St. Francis, but is not participating in the CHSAA playoffs. It's because the Syracuse and Rochester section have given up their public and private sections They have integrated their Catholic schools with public schools and joined New York State sections.. AKA section 5 and section 4 But that's not fair that Bennett has to go up against Christian Brothers which FYI Bennett has won a AA championship recently It's really not fair to them.. Catholic schools have a recruiting ability that public schools don't have It's a cop out... Christian Brothers recruits kids from seven different towns But Rochester and Syracuse folded and all their best schools are Catholic schools now basically.. Christian Brothers rules Rochester and Syracuse Bennett lost to a private school in the public playoffs that's a fact Edited 10 hours ago by Buffalo716 Quote

My point was that the Catholic league schools downstate have to compete a lot harder for top players because of the number of schools. Iona hardly has a monopoly on them. 5 hours ago, Buffalo716 said: Congratulations you're AAA School playing AA The fact any Monsignor Martin team has won in the last 15 years shows your AAA teams are overrated Monsignor Martin teams are doing it with less funding half the amount of students That's crazy to call it mediocre when there's probably 8 FCS football players And a few FBS lol Their states that don't have 5 division one football players in the entire state That Iona versus Saint Francis game has like I said probably seven or eight FCS guys and two or three FBS guys And probably two dozen guys that will play division 2 or division 3 football That's not mediocre bro I watch the games.
