Agreed. Maybe he's changed but he was an absolutely god awful human being during his playing days. Treated his wife horribly. As documented by her in her book. Some people ignore that because he could throw the ball fifty yards on a dime. I don't. That's the best thing about Josh. Seems like a genuinely great dude.

That’s true, especially the Giants SB.  Polian made a point in 30 for 30 how the Bills had an overwhelming winning record against NFC teams.  There was a common theme with NFC fans that they were the superior conference even though I took the time once as I counted up SB winners all the way back to GB and it’s basically tied.

 

Anyway, Jimbo was a guy I looked up to in my early 20’s as he was larger than life.  I remember when we came back against the Saints, Jim was in the locker room post game and said to the reporters “who here thinks we could come back down by multiple TDs”. “You’re a liar, you’re a liar, etc.”. The reporters all laughed.  So I flew up for the game as just moved to Tampa.  I’m out with my friends at Cole’s downtown that night.  I’m in the bathroom as many 20 somethings do after drinking way too much beer.  In comes Jim, and I imitated him, and he started belly laughing.  Needless to say, I washed my hands and shook his hand.  I told him we love you Jimbo.  You’re so Buffalo.  He took that as a real compliment.

 

So when I first chose a handle for this page years ago, I chose it after him.  He was flawed when single and even cheated on his wife, but he figured it out, and what he did for Hunter was nothing less than amazing.

After the SB loss to the Giants, the consolation was thinking “this team is way too talented not to win a SB”.  The 1990 Bills should have won it all that year. Thoroughly out coached in the SB. But next year, ran into a really, really good Redskins team. Redskins were better. After that, the post Hershel Walker Cowboys. Cowboys were better. I always wondered how it would have played out if we had traded for Charles Haley and if he and Bruce Smith were rushing the passer instead of Haley going to the Cowboys.  Maybe we end up winning one. Of course, that was pre-salary cap and Ralph was cheap.

He has changed over the years. He’s a much better person now than he was in the 90s. However I wouldn’t go as far to say it’s impossible to not love him.

A lot of people didnt like Jim back in his playing days. Actually a lot of people outside Buffalo hated the Bills and rooted for them to lose. I was a Kelly fan because he backed up the arrogance/bravado with his play and leadership. I still say that he throws a nicer touch pass than Josh does (esp deep). In short he was a special QB to watch. Never heard of the personal bad behaviour of Jim towards his wife or people in the Western NY area back then but remember that was pre internet and anecdotal stuff (combined with damning videos and audio) didnt really exist for another 10-15 years.  I did hear from people who were connected to the team that the Bills loved to party back then. Something that I can personally attest, to seeing Bruce Smith at the Late Show in NFalls about 1AM on a Saturday night during the season. However in Bruce's defense, I think it was during the 1990 season and he was possibly injured. In the end judging Jim harshly seems a bit ridiculous considered the personal pain that he suffered with Hunter's condition and his own battles with cancer. That guy has been through a lot.

I became a Bills fan because of Jim.  I can admit he was an #######, many QB's are believe it or not.  His extreme arrogance is what helped him lift the Bills out of the pure crap of a franchise they were.

 

Yes, he treated Jill wrong for awhile, yes his  business venture of sports bar and club bankrupted, yes was an #######.

 

But people DO change,and he has.  Jill and his Daughters have said this repeatedly, those around him have said the same.  Hunters condition and death really brought Jim back to earth in a very hard way. He found God and I am glad.

 

It amazes me how many in this world keep judging people in their past,not giving grace or forgiveness.

 

That said,he was the toughest SOB to play QB, the only one to call his own plays and get his team to 4 straight Superbowls.   Was he the best?   No.  But he was great and we were all blessed to have him as our QB.

It's considered by many as the greatest team ever for 1 year. They literally would've gone undefeated if not for an Alvin Harper hail Mary.... The 91 Washington team was just ridiculous. Tasker said afterwards it was the greatest team he ever played against 

 

I still think if they don't turn it over they win SB 28 which would've been pretty glorious for those guys. 

 

Shyt happens. Incredible team and memories I will never forget. The 92 comeback validated everything about their true greatness 

 

 

Unfortunately this bills team reminds me almost in identical fashion to the moon oilers but just a longer version and got a little further with two AFC championship appearances

The Comeback against the Oilers is one of the NFL's greatest games period.  Wow was their talent on that team.  Was Marchibroda our OC back then?  He was excellent.  It is an honor to have been a huge fan back then.  I was 27 then.  Thought we would have won a Super Bowl by now.  But the drought came like an Oklahoma dust storm from the 1930's and leveled the team as far as being an NFL contender.  Now I am 60 and am still hoping praying and watching every game.  And I still have my Bryce Paup jersey that I bought at the beginning of the 1996 season.  He would have been the best player on this defense, hands down.

 

The Josh Allen era has been very very good.  But not good enough.  Our biggest weakness has been coaching and roster construction.  The defense is too small in the front seven, and not enough speed throughout it.  (Our guy are ALWAYS getting injured) and our Wide Receivers are not NFL caliber other than Shakir.  We are not winning anything with this team.  Unless we get healthy real quick.  The key is getting Kincaid back, and him staying healthy the rest of the way.  He is the only potential mismatch catching the football down the field that we have.  

 

That Beane thought this group of WR's was good enough to compete should get him fired, no questions asked.
