here are two QBs

guess which one is the MVP

QB1

4,041 yards

28TDs/9ints

70%completion

+

587 yards rushing and 13TDs

or QB2

3,731 yards

28TDs/6INTs

63.6%completion

+

531 yards rushing and 12TDs

Nicely done, but you gotta include sack rates and fumbles. He had 5 fumbles last year and is on pace for 9 this year.

Anything less than a J would have been parental malpractice

Exactly. Anybody who is anybody has the middle initial J.   Just as Elmer J Fudd.

100% part of the equation. allen's advanced efficiency metrics, stats i put a good amount of stock in, last yr were all top1-3 due in large part to the historically low negative play rate that you reference. this season they've fallen (some would have said predictably so😂😂) to around top1-8ish range for a variety of factors...the largest of which is most likely due to a combination of mean regression and offense structure

full disclosure- i predicted last preseason the 2024 offense had the potential to be poor by conventional standards, due to both lack of faith in brady and personnel. and while on the face of it that was inaccurate (offense was incredibly efficient, allen won MVP, etc) i think there did exist underlying issues that were masked by our negative play% which was bound to return to normal levels at some point. now that it has, we're seeing more of the kind of offense i thought was the likely result of playing this kind of system, w this personnel and coaching staff

larger point being...imo we are not being set up for success on offense. doubling down on what amounted to a statistical outlier of a season, offensively speaking, in 2024 was incredibly poor judgement from the FO. allen's play, while not up to mvp levels of last yr, is far from the reason we see such inconsistent results- the margin for error in brady's scheme is too thin when the difference between looking borderline unstoppable/outright lost is a never-before-seen-in-league-history negative play rate

Bottom line Josh isnt right in he head right now.  We have all seen it and talked about it, you can see it in how he plays and the look on his face.

I think Hailee has him messed up, AND the lack of WR talent has gotten to him.

Im gonna double down and say he retires sooner than later.

Holy negativity, Batman!

To those of you who were offended:

"People say "Jesus H. Christ" because the "H" is a misinterpretation of a Greek abbreviation for Jesus's name, IHC (Iota-Eta-Sigma), which was used as a christogram. Those who didn't recognize the Greek letter eta (Η) likely assumed it was a middle initial for a middle name, leading to the assumption that it stood for "Jesus H. Christ". The phrase is now used more as an expletive or exclamation, where the "H" adds emphasis and improves the rhythm."

Your sense of humor is appreciated. 👍

Chris Simms on the Bills offense vs Miami:

I considered making a new thread for this but it fits into this thread just fine. I recommend watching the entire 12 minute video.

Nothing he says here should surprise anyone. Highlights:

-When defenses are able to stop the run, we have no counterpunch. He points out when you face playoff defenses you will inevitably have a game where you can't get the run going, and we don't have any answers to overcome that.

-Way too much is on Allen in the pass game. Nothing about it is surgical, it's all on him to create big plays.

-He blames the personnel more than the play calling but does criticize the play calling for dipping into the same well way too many times. The same concepts are constantly showing up on film. We're attacking the same areas of the field over and over again and Miami's defense was clamping down on it.

-Miami was in zone most of the game, cover 3 specifically 67% of the time. He says they were easily passing off our various crossing routes and we had no way of attacking them outside to get them out of those looks. He says "Allen can throw comebacks while sitting on his ass" but we don't have those routes on the menu because of our personnel.

-He criticizes Coleman in particular. He says that several times Allen hits the top of his drop looking in Coleman's direction but Coleman hasn't gotten to his spot and/or is jogging, so Allen ends up having to move on in the read.

You can tell how flabbergasted Simms is that this is the offense we've built around Allen. An all-time physically gifted QB and we're just asking him to throw button hooks and short crossers. We spam the same boring play calls and we have no one to take advantage of Allen's arm downfield.

it’s like he sees the same things I’ve been saying for weeks now. Then some dude will come in and say but but but we have the bestest O in the league, look at these rushing driven stats or they’ll post some screen grab they don’t understand and say look he’s open.

Everyone's lauding this piece and it's absolutely accurate but it's also what posters here have been saying all season long so there's nothing new here.

The only thing different now is that more than ever before, media and fans who were extremely reluctant to publicly criticize Josh are now a bit more emboldened to do so... that of the many problems with the offense, one is that Josh is not playing up to his own standards.

This will be the 3rd or 4th time I say this... Josh isn't near the top of the list of reasons why the Bills offense is playing poorly but he is on the list.

So to respected posters like yourself @dave mcbride and @HappyDays, are you saying that Josh is playing as he usually does? Is Josh completely blameless for the offensive problems?

No, Josh is not blameless. Its just that you can't expect the guy to be perfect on 10-12 play 7+ minute drives all game every game. It's unrealistic for anyone. Even Mahomes is not perfect like that.

I don't even understand the obsession of drives like that. Sure at the end of games when you have a lead, its good. Doing it all game is only giving our own offense less attempts at scoring. Either you are eating clock against yourself while down in score or you are quickly giving the ball back from 3 and outs. This style offense is not designed to play from behind or even behind the sticks. I've been saying that since last year but more so this year. There used to not be a situation that I thought Josh couldnt convert from. 3rd and 19 no problem. Josh will hit it. I can't even say that on 3rd and 7 anymore.
