They are also the same "type" 4 of our DEs are power/compression. Maybe 5, although Hoetch has some juice. Only Solomon has some bend, but he's looking like a JAG.

I am with you on retooling for next year. The Bills have a chance to reshape this roster with significant turnover but without significant drop off. Hawes will fill the Knox role. Taron has lost a step and Cam/Hancock can fill in adequately. Milano never plays. Bernard can move into that slot and get a bigger body in the middle. Jones is a rotational guy in an area where, if healthy, they have a lot of bodies. Rapp and Samuel are easily replaced.

For as down as I am right now they can really retool quickly with some real resources. The old guard like Milano/Taron/Knox can go and save money along with Samuel.

 

The defense with some better health I feel better about with Walker/Oliver DT Groot/AJ DE CB Benford/Hariston SAF Bishop. Not perfect but some nice young guys I can get excited about. Offense is so damn easy in a sense, sell out for a good WR1, draft 2 guys, and potentially add another FA WR.

 

The passing corp I could get pumped about if it is something like this:

WR1. Jeudy (example please don't hurt me haha) Slot. Shakir  WR2. Draft pick WR3. Palmer WR4. Draft pick or FA

TE: 1. Kincaid  2.Hawes

 

What infuriates me is they could've had something like that at WR if Beane actually was more aggressive this last offseason ugh.

Just to warm everyone's hearts, the Bills have 33.221 million in cap committed for next year for the void years of players no longer under contract after this season including Milano ($11.071), Bosa ($7.2), McGovern ($4.805), Jones ($3.724), Epenesa ($2.861) and Ogunjobi ($2.57).

I'm actually usually very positive. A couple of posters on here have me blocked because I called out their excessive negativity. Yesterday broke me a bit. It was not only our loss. Division losses happen. It was the way we lost, coupled with the fact that the Pats seem like they are on a Super Bowl run of good play and good luck. It's enough to grind me into the dirt. And just to make myself clear, I was only responding to Corta's use of a Valley Girl phrase. He's right that I'm overreacting. But this is "Overaction Monday," after all.

So where can the Bills create cap space.  

1) Cut Knox.  Savings $9.6 mill

 

2) Restructure, Taron Johnson, Dawkins, and Oliver.  All carry dead cap less than their 2026 cap hit but only about $3 mill per player.  A restructure likely creates more space

 

3) Cut Bass - cap savings 2.9 mill

 

4) Cut Rapp - Cap savings 3.5

 

5) Cut Samuel - Cap Savings $6.3

Would it even be worth moving Ed Oliver to a team for a 3rd rounder in the off season if we could? His cap hit for next year is way up there. 

 

I like Ed, think he’s a solid player but for the contract he’s on the first two years of it, especially now that he’s injured, have been meh.

I believe that if extended though the Bills can spread that cap hit out. For example if they bring back McGovern and Bosa they can take those “void year hits” and roll them into the new deal. They can also designate Jones and Milano as post-June 1 and save about $7M for next year.

Bass Rapp also save money.  The bills have about 33M in void money next year which is money for guys that are planned to not be on the team.

He'd have to come back this year AND finish strong to sniff a 3rd, I think. For exactly the reasons you mentioned. 

 

It's a criticism way down the list at this point, but part of Beane's over-commitment to his own draft picks means we never deal a guy when his value will actually net us something positive in return. Isn't it kinda weird that in 8 seasons he's NEVER moved one of his draft picks for a sizable return in trade?

I think we need more than a simple retooling. I think this team needs a short term "re-Bill'd"

 

From this point on in the season there is a legitimate argument to be had why the Bills could lose each game from here out. I don't think they will, of course. But there are no "easy" games left. Well, maybe the final week against the Jets. Bucs, Texans, Steelers, Bengals, Pats, Browns, Eagles...all could be trouble. If we don't win the majority of those games and are coming off a 1 and done wild card appearance or worse...they are going to have to make waves this off season to build excitement for the new stadium.

You can call it whatever. If they replace: Taron, Milano, Knox, Rapp, Bass, Samuel and DaQuan Jones, that is a lot. I also have this feeling that Torrence gets traded before getting paid.

LB sadly is turning into an issue. Milano gone, Bernard has been yikes, Williams & Thompson have been their best two imo and that is not a good thing.

Oddly, I feel like they extend Torrence before they even think of re-signing Edwards or McGovern. Beane likes to pay his picks.

I'm not sure that's true for a contract that is expired.  For example with Tre White, he was still under contract and by giving him a June 1 designation the Bills saved about $10 mill (if memory serves).  How Milano, Bosa, McGovern etc.. all are on expiring contracts.

He is younger then both. McGovern I doubt they let go unless Josh doesn't want him. It has been a good addition.

I'll keep saying it, this team needs to get younger and cheaper.  More people on rookie contracts.
