the shaheed one is what sticks with me most too.

cheap pay, cheap picks, speed for days and opens a roster spot

the other consideration- on an expiring contract, we maybe could’ve gotten a mid rounder back even if we let him walk

This is where I'm at too. So what that we lose someone like shavers on the roster. We would put him on the practice squad and he would be fine right there

Sure we'll get Gabe Davis back and he might flash up to a number two at best, and Shaheed might make a peek at number 3 while playing as a number four he does something that nobody on this team is doing. Whether by design or their own fault nobody is getting downfield and open like necessary.

No one is even trying a decoy threat downfield sufficiently.

Sure, always players available

But as I said, TJ and Daquan will be back in next 2-3 weeks.  Maybe I shouldbe asked, were you expecting an upgrade on them?

We haven't seen enough of TJ, he flashed some pass rushing ability.  But if we make a trade for a DT, as you suggested, then we'd be at 6 in 2-3 weeks.  Phillips is a useful #4-5

Exactly.  The Bills have invested heavily at this position and they are just going to have to hope that these guys step up.  The NFL is a limited resource environment, and it’s not reasonable to expect Beane to keep pouring money and draft capital into this position group when we already have young guys who—for one reason or another—haven’t really even had a chance to contribute yet.

No question the Bills are a top team. All the teams, including the contenders, have holes to fill. The question is could/should they have made a move to better their chances. Obviously they thought not. We will be in a better position to evaluate their decision at year end.

Maybe they tried and couldn’t work it out.  Remember, it takes two hands to clap.

the Bills are tight under the Salary cap.  They have aging players such as Jones, Johnson, Milano with large salaries and cap hits.
they have young guns such as Hoecht, Oliver on IR and cannot contribute and yet their salaries count against the cap

them they have players who they paid big bucks but not delivered like Samuel, Knox, Bernard, White, Shakir, Palmer

and finally, their cost control players such as Davis, Williams, Coleman , Bishop (KC game could turn his career) have not stepped and contributed significantly.

The Bills can partake their draft picks but without offloading salary they cannot really make big decisions

You know what they say about hope, right?  At some point a team must make a decision that one year they're going to push their chips to the middle and go for it.

The Rams knew they were close and went out and got Von Miller and OBJ and won a championship. Hoping for something to happen when there's really no basis for thinking something will in the first place is just going to get you year after year of disappointment.

This is absolutely maddening to me.  Thinking any of these bottom of the barrel guys no other team even wants on their PS is going to come in here and make a difference.  Delusional.

You’re mad that they’re signing guys to the practice squad?

The tweet says they're looking for guys to replace Hoecht.

None of those guys should even be mentioned in the same sentence. They're warm bodies who haven't even found their way onto any team's PS.

It’s interesting to me that most of our biggest competitors didn’t do anything either— with  the exception of the Colts. The NFC teams were, for some reason, much more active.

It’s pretty simple: That’s all we can afford.  And we have two guys who are about to come off IR in a week or two…

Not true. We had enough to even sign Shaheed. I'm assuming Beane simply wasn't willing to beat the 4th and 5th NO got for him.

Feels like a lot of the need was wr for the two big afc teams that were buyers and the main potential sellers were afc east teams which is a tough spot.  I don’t think teams love the half year rental wr trade on top of that…really takes a lot of playbook knowledge and rapport with the qb to be successful especially with a guy like Josh who’s a big improviser.   by the time these dudes get their feet wet they’re off the team

Odell has come up a lot who was a significantly better player when LA picked him up than anyone we realistically could’ve gotten at the deadline this year and even he was on that bills Amari cooper 300 yds in 8 games type pace until turning it on for the nfc championship

It’s a pretty badly worded tweet imo…they’re looking for guys to backup the guys that are backing up the guys that are replacing Hoecht pretty much lol

Probably, but why does this team always seem to continue to go back to these same retreads who can't even make a team's PS? I'm telling you the AJ Klein tweet is coming in a few weeks. 😂

So which DL should the Bills have traded for, and who should be cut when Sanders and D. Jones come off the IR next week?

I think the cost for us to get Shaheed for a half of a season just got too expensive. He went to the Seahawks for a 4th & a 5th - both in this coming Draft.

I've seen people say "why couldn't we pay that?". Well, first of all, us matching that wouldn't be enough. Because the Seahawks, while having our same record, are going to be presumed to be picking before us.

So we'd have to beat it. Which means we'd have had to offer at least our 3rd and our 5th, if not our 3rd and our 4th. Which would leave us with just 5 picks in the Draft (as we have no extra picks coming from trades or comps).

That's a helluva price for a player like Shaheed for just half of a season. I'm willing to bet the two picks price that the Saints paid was a result of many bidders, probably us as well, driving up the price. Ultimately, it just got to a place where it was too expensive for us to beat.

Chiefs fans are a bit perturbed that Chiefs wouldn't part with a 3rd round pick for Breece Hall.  They apparently offered a 4th and the Jets wouldn't budge.

We're tied for the 3rd best record in the league, have the 3rd best PPG offense, 1st in rushing yards, 9th best defense in PPG and 2nd best passing defense in the league, tied for 6th in sacks. Yes we don't pass the eye test always when we pass or at time give up long runs but we're a top 4 team in this league on any given Sunday. What more can we really expect?
