Plausible X/#1 receiver trade candidates — are there any?

Like everybody else I have been exasperated by the defensive alignments and playcalls at certain crucial intervals over the years. Some have been downright inexplicable otherwise than as errors. But overall I don't think the defence has been bad year over year and I feel that McD is better on that side of the ball than on the other whether you like his scheme/philosophy or not. I expect the D to be improved  by crunch time. I also think they probably did the right thing prioritizing the D in the last draft and I look forward to seeing the results. I'm not sure they had any choice.

Having said that I think this team needs to score points to win. The D is not good enuf to support an underperforming offence. It's also a question of simply going with your best shot, which is your elite signal caller. If you turn him into a game manager you may be depreciating his unique skill set. If you deprive him of one or more quality assets in the passing game I just don't think that you can seriously pursue a championship. 
Last year's draft was D focused. Very likely the O, and specifically the need for WRs, will be addressed in next years draft.

* If Miami is going into a major rebuild, and all signs are that they are, then they won't have to worry about being burned by Waddle & the Bills for at least the next 2 seasons.  By the time Miami will be in a position to challenge Buffalo/NE for the East Waddle would be at least 30.  

 

* If the Bills gave up a 1st or 2nd round pick there is a chance that this will weaken the Bills and strengthen Miami in a future where the Dolphins get their rebuild right.

 

* Waddle's CAP hit will also limit who the Bills can sign in other areas. Again with an eye towards the time when Miami is actually competing with Buffalo after the rebuild.

 

Bottom line is that trading Waddle to the Bills would not be a zero sum situation.  In fact the argument that it helps the Bills a lot over the next 2 years and helps Miami a lot beyond that is sound.

Valid points.

 

It will depend on the sense of urgency the next Dolphins GM will have--or more accurately, what sense of urgency the Dolphins ownership tells the GM to have.

 

A rebuild and patiently waiting two years may not be in the cards. (it should be, but may not be)

Even if the didn't want Olave, they would have called. Two reasons. One, Beane has said himself, there are guys pretty much assigned to other teams that have frequent conversations. They use guys that have ties to other guys on other teams. This could be scout to scout, Assistant GM to scout but is way less frequently GM to GM. 

 

Second, if the Bills are in the WR market, Beane likes to call on everyone to find what the market should be. It's like when you buy a house. You may go look at a house you aren't as interested in to see what the comps in the area are.

I need to rewatch that Schoen Hard Knocks, was by far the best thing they've ever put out. I hate not knowing what the day 2 day life of a GM/FO looks like. 

 

Maybe theres a book out there from a retired GM? Id love to hear more about it. One thing I really love about Beane. Hes let some light out on things that most gm's wont, almost out of an outdated secrecy ritual.

Hes not the guy I want, but I think a lot of this board is way underestimating Jakobi. Not as sexy or splashy as my heart lusts for, but we are instantly a better team with him.

 

Hes nice to plug in while Palmer is out. And even nicer to play across from Palmer when hes back. Were severely missing competent WR play on the outside and he brings that. Josh elevates what hes done in his career imo too

Olave and BTJ are unlikely to be traded. The team and Olave are working on an extension. BTJ even more so after Travis Hunter being IR'ed. I have to imagine the "feeling" that it would take a 1st plus to pry him loose has probably changed since yesterday's news on Hunter. If the Jags were in worse shape, I could see them maybe packing things up and selling. But not at 4-3.

 

I guess it's good to have a reputable source saying what others have said, that we've been doing our diligence on someone like Olave. But I don't think this article changes anything. But it will surely reignite all the fans who ignore everything else but the name mentioned in the same breath in an article about trades.

 

Still looking to me that our best shot that could actually be had is Rashid Shaheed. Though it seems my previous concern of supply and demand driving up his price was legitimate. A Day 2 pick for a half year rental is a steep price for him. But if they can get at least a short term extension, I'd do it if he's the best option available to us. Especially when the WR FA market is so poor next off-season.

Yeah its a no brainer to sign a 2yr extension at minimum, maybe 1 if his agent wont do 2.

It’s pretty clear that there are issues getting WR’s open downfield. With the exception of a nice catch by Moore, almost all of the downfield passing was from Kincaid and one catch for 30 by Knox.  They need to add one other piece to go along with Palmer.  Shaheed would be a nice addition
