We waste an entire amount of time, energy and human capital avoiding tax. Entire industries are based on this, and it is non productive. Keep rates reasonable and don't double tax, and this amazing country will prosper. nedboy7 Posted 15 hours ago Posted 15 hours ago (edited) 5 minutes ago, Pokebball said: what do you think? Who knows? Can't predict insanity. Justice is now about how close you are to the man. Donald Trump is heavily weighing giving Sean “Diddy” Combs a full presidential pardon ahead of the convicted Bad Boy Records founder’s sentencing later this year. Nearly two months after Trump publicly entertained the notion of a Diddy pardon in an Oval Office gaggle, a comprehensive get out of jail card for Combs is being “seriously considered,” an administration source tells Deadline. Additionally, as several associates of the much-accused and currently incarcerated “All About the Benjamins” performer have been pitching the White House, other insiders confirm the topic has leveled up from “just another Trump weave to an actionable event” since Combs was found partially guilty in the his New York City sex-trafficking trial earlier this month. Of course, as a number of parties attest, this being the roller coaster of Trumpworld, any decision on a Combs pardon is in flux until POTUS actually puts his signature on paper. You still haven’t proved me wrong. And you did the work, not well of course, but it looks like I can assign it to you. The tax structure isn’t supposed to be punitive. It’s supposed to be fair. Why does the little guy get relative peanuts, but cap gains and top brackets are low? Rich guys love you because you make it easy for them. Prove me wrong. Edited 14 hours ago by SectionC3

The tax laws are often changed. Almost always in favor of the rich. Closing loopholes for them would be welcomed by the 99% if messaged correctly. Trump located them with minuscule , short lived breaks of their own. Perhaps D’s could do the same while increasing taxes on the rich. Edited 14 hours ago by Joe Ferguson forever

The "little guy," depending on your definition of that, which is not clear, doesn't pay income tax. The overwhelming numbers are on the non little guy, and you can do the work yourself. It's easily found. Further, this country excels economically because people of means invest and provide capital for growth. This punish the investor class is suicidal, and thankfully, hasn't taken hold here, other than silly crap on social media and clueless politicians who have benefitted immensely from it. 1

I don't champion welfare for the rich, and never have. The welfare is that they pay a grossly disproportionate amount in income taxes, and that is not disputable. I don't have an issue with that at current rates, capital gains rates or deductibles. I do have an issue with policy that would change that and lead to the removal of investment capital. 1 2
nedboy7 Posted 13 hours ago Posted 13 hours ago (edited) Tesla saved half a billion in taxes last year using accelerated depreciation. Tax breaks for executive stock options shaved a quarter billion off the company’s tax bill. Unspecified “U.S. tax credits” were good for $300 million of tax savings. Musk’s company also used net operating losses to offset current year income, although it’s hard to know how much of that affects U.S. income rather than the company’s far-larger foreign income. Congress might give Tesla even more tax breaks. A bill passed by the House of Representatives in the previous Congress would have retroactively reinstated a provision allowing full expensing of research and development expenses which could save the company up to $2.4 billion in taxes. Wealthy individuals use legal tax avoidance strategies to minimize or eliminate their tax liability, resulting in an effective tax rate far lower than their earnings would suggest . While the top federal income tax bracket is high, most billionaires do not earn a traditional salary. Instead, their wealth comes from the appreciation of assets like stocks and real estate, and they can borrow against these assets to fund their lifestyle without generating a taxable income Edited 13 hours ago by nedboy7 1
