I missed the bus the first day of kindergraden . My parents didn't get me to the road in time. Dad worked nights and he was still up, so he drove me the couple miles to school. Down on the main street there was an old "amusement park" that had closed maybe 8 or so years earlier and awas overgrown and had the ruins of several rides among the weeds. Those  got removed maybe 5 years later, but at the corner to that road and another main road was a 2-3 story "Liberty Park Hotel" that was being torn down that very same day. Maybe had 10-15 rooms. Since then it has had a gas station o it. There is and apartment development with the name Liberty Park Apartments about  a quarter mile down the road. People who live there have no idea why it has that name.

Where was that?  WNY?

In  south Cheektowaga. It was very small with about 3-4 rides. My parents said they used to have bingo games there in the 50s.   Now it has a gas station, a dentist office, my cardiologist's office, a credit union, and a funeral home on that property.

I had a suspicion it might be a grove sort of gathering place.  Many a WNY business held company picnics at such venues.  Steve Cichon profiled Liberty Park in 2018.

I started in Kindergarten, there wasn't any Pre K in my area back then.

I thought it was great, riding the big bus, making friends with kids that didn't live in the same housing tract. I don't remember much other than the principals initials were A.S.S. no lies. It's amazing the things you remember and those you forget.

I now live about 300 feet from the west end of that property.  The other end is the gas station and my cardiologist. The whole length of that property was about a  quarter mile long and maybe 200-300 feet deep. It bordered Cayuga Creek.

I have a strange one. I remember vaguely as a very young child going from my bed to sleep with my dog on hers

except her bed was in the living room. I sleep walked to her. I don't remember the waking up or who found me.

I must have been preschool or Maybe kindergarten

I have earlier memories, but I vividly recall my sister having a friend over and I was annoying them as they played in the basement. I got in trouble and had to go upstairs with my parents. We watched JFK’s funeral, with the horse drawn carriage taking his casket down the road. That was just a few weeks after my 4th birthday and I remember it more clearly than some things that happened last week.

I have other things from much later in life that are annoyingly unclear to me. As @frostbitmic noted above, it’s amazing what the mind selects to store away and make available, while some other things remain a foggy mystery, or just disappear from your mind.

JFK was when I was in 1st grade. The teacher got a call on the wall phone and stepped outside in the hall for a minute or so.  She comes back in crying and tells us the president was shot.  The school was grades 1-5 with about 30 people. They had a TV on wheels and set it up in the hall. We watched the coverage and heard Walter Cronkite tell us JFK was dead. We had ro wait for busses to send us home early. Remember watching the funeral.  That was Saturday. I think it was Sunday I saw Oswd getting shot o live TV. My dad was standing in front of the TV just repeating Holy Sh*t!!!, just like I did when I saw the second plane hit live on 9/11.

I remember my first day of kindergarten, my Mom brought me to school, and to the classroom, met my teacher. After a few minutes I decided that was enough so I left and went outside to find Mom. Couldn't find her, but there was still staff and other teachers out there that found me and took me back inside.

The sandpit and Tonka trucks.

Wanting to be the black sheep in the nativity…  being the black sheep in the nativity.
My oldest friend I’ve known since we were like 10 weeks of age, well the school was literally opposite his house, so I remember his mum taking us, thinking it was a trip, but also we got to hang out more!
