BillsFanNC Posted August 13 Posted August 13 Roundy's fluid rules of criminal behavior blame: Sure that illegal who kills an ICE agent is a murderer if you want to get ticky tacky, but ICE agents still deserve it. I mean yes let's blame the date rapist but still the woman allowed him to buy her a drink first so there is that. That drunk driving illegal mowed down a kid playing in his yard, but what's with the mother not watching her kid? 1 2

Andy1 Posted August 14 Posted August 14 12 hours ago, leh-nerd skin-erd said: Andy, the federal government has long investigated private and public institutions for discrimination and wrongdoing, offered opinions on the way business is conducted, and set policy related to tax and just about everything else. The mistake you’re making here is assuming if a business has Harvard on its business card it’s above reproach. Your defense of law firms….yikes—I’d hazard a bet that your outrage there stops at the intersection of client list and which political party they tend to represent. It’s not just Harvard. Everything, every business or other entity in Trumps crosshairs feel compelled to fork over extortion money in exchange for them being allowed to exist, or Trump will attack them with the power of the Federal government. Nvidia now has to pay 15% of their revenue from chip sales to China to the government. (Im not sure they should even be selling chips to China, but I guess Trump is fine with that, as long as he gets his cut). Tim Cook has to deliver a gold bar to Trump, foreign nations have to give him a jet airplane. Law firms are forced to donate their services to Trumps causes. On and on… Whatever happened to Republicans wanting government out of society? I thought you all hated how the Dems made big government requiring masks, vaxes CAFE standards, etc. Trump is the most progressive, activist President we have ever seen. He wants to manipulate and control every facet of American society Republicans disagree with. He declares all these fake emergencies to justify his actions. Why has he gone after the big law firms? It’s because they are the ones who bring lawsuits against the government for unconstitutional actions. When has a Dem president ever used the power of the government to neuter powerful law firms? Trump is trying every possible action, constitutional or unconstitutional, that he can to expand his power. Presidential norms are out the window. Every President following him, on either side of the isle, will feel free to do likewise. The question is: Is that the kind of government we want? Regarding DC: Since when have Republicans cared about the lives of city residents? This is much more about Trump trying to change the story from Epstein and make himself look powerful to his base. Every other President has been extremely reluctant to deploy troops in law enforcement capacity. There is a reason for that. Now Trump declares fake emergencies to normalize their presence on the streets. I hope it goes well but there is reason for concern. Trump is now seeking to create a quick reaction force of troops to deploy on civillian protesters. I don’t like the direction this is all going. Our nation has done just fine, through much more turbulent times, without regularly deploying the military on our soil. My concern is that in an heated protest, young military troops not trained to deal with such events, will take violent action against our citizens. That would be a tragedy for both sides. I hope I’m wrong.
stevestojan Posted August 14 Posted August 14 31 minutes ago, Andy1 said: Regarding DC: Since when have Republicans cared about the lives of city residents? They don’t. They want them to become red. Literally every news story about a blue city or state (or district in this case) from the right is full of mockery and “f.uck them, they voted for this.” But now that Trumpy Bear wants to clean up his temporary hometown, they cheer it on as if they care about the residents of a blue city. All of that to say I actually agree with what Trump is doing in DC. I hate the precedent but the blue leadership has turned a fantastic city into a crime ridden hellhole. Do I wish they could clean it up with less drastic measures? Of course. But they’ve proven they can’t. So I struggle with this one because Trump is doing the unprecedented again, (as if that’s not an oxymoron). So, I agree that republicans cheering this on are hypocrites. I agree with the actions being taken because DC needs to clean up its mess. I believe the left’s soft on crime is an awful stance and one major flaw I find in my own party. I believe these actions that I like are skirting the letter of the law and are a short term band aid to a much bigger problem. And I hate to say this, because it’s a cop out thing to say, but at least he’s doing something. So, Trump gets my support on this one with hesitation to what it means for future POTUS.

Shouldn’t a first world country be able to have people simply park their cars on the street and not have to worry about it being stolen?

The government took in $4.3 trillion in revenue in 2023, your folks repeatedly suggest it’s never enough and big business and the ultra wealthy need to do more, and are dithering over Apple and Nvidia? It’s like some of you run headlong into the embrace of China an so you can get your 5th free upgrade on your iPhone 37, all while googling and fretting about authoritarian regimes. The information coming out about Harvard and other institutions actions isn’t anything to be proud of, Andy, and they earned the rebuke. With luck they get a course correction, revisit institutional arrogance and move forward. If not, oh well. There are Republicans who live in cities, Andy. Read a book once in a while. The rest of that section of your post is emotional handwringing. What I can say is that most sensible people of all political stripes want safety, security and decent streets in exchange for the money they pay and contributions they make to the greater good. When you’re on the outside looking in, it’s easy to be outraged over someone trying to solve a problem that you’re comfortable with someone else dealing with. It’s actually the liberal way. I’m concerned, too. I’m concerned that violent agitators engage with citizen soldiers, as they do with rank and file and often overwhelmed law enforcement to foment violence, and when they do, people like you support them. I guess we’re all worried about something.

Tariffs are taxes, and you love taxing the middle class. And spare me on China. Your guy coddles Russia, and makes all these empty threats to China that he never truly does anything about. I don't disagree about the safety point. But J6 was urban crime on a mass scale, and what do you do about it? Pardon them all. It's a joke, and MAGA has no standing to castigate others about that issue. The hypocrisy with MAGA is stunning.
