So I was really excited when he was coming to late night. Then when I watched the show, it was awful. I knew that the Colbert Report was a "character" but I didn't realize how much that character was masking his true persona. Kimmel is the same way, you cant go from the "Man Show" and then try to become a "moral compass" As he ever come and said anything about the Man Show or tried to denounce it? I would respect him a little bit more if he had done that... Colbert was better playing a fake conservative when the audience knew what it was getting with the Colbert Report. I think CBS wanted Stewart but knew he didn't want the job so Colbert was the next best option as they pulled in high ratings back to back. Especially since the audience for comedy central was younger than Letterman's. Colbert had no background as a standup comic so I don't know what CBS was expecting. He just went back to his bread and butter which was political satire making fun of the right. He just wasn't funny out of character so I stopped watching within a month or so. He had higher ratings than Kimmel and Fallon so he just stuck with it. It is funny seeing how freaked out liberals are because he was basically just a propaganda show for their party. Maybe the show just sucked in a dying industry and they were paying a guy $20m a year and losing $40m a year. Late night is a lumbering dinosaur anyways waiting for a knockout punch and that's why CBS is canceling the Late Show altogether. 1

USA! USA! At least he gets to criticize dear leader on national tv for 9 more months until his contract runs out. Kind of a nice parting gift. Do you think he will be able to criticize dear leader when he sets up a podcast/streaming show? People are really wondering. It’s all so chilling! USA!

Trump calling him out actually sharpened his comedic edge. And I'm all about edgy. [big gap] 2. Colbert. Mostly boring. Has always been. Annoying. Can't watch him. Not sad to see him go. 3. Fallon. No edge whatsoever. Bad wig in lame attempt to preserve "boyish charm." All of them are a distant third - behind daylight in second - to the one and only Greg Gutfeld 😎 1

BillsFanNC Posted July 20 Posted July 20 Cancel culture can indeed strike hard in the late night TV industry when you're spectacularly unfunny. 1
