AMERICAN Pope!!!!! Leo XIV  Robert Francis Prevost from Chicago.

He's 69, and a Cubs Fan.

Boy I'm getting old, the new pope is only a year older than me.

Serious question as I am not Catholic.   If this guy had no clue he was going to be Pope when did he have time to write an introductory speech?

I believe he is reading a selection of prayers, but I’d imagine they prepare remarks in advance just in case.

Just now, Joe Ferguson forever said:

Apparently a favorite of Francis.  Appointed women on committee that appoints bishops.  Appears to be a progressive at least in regards to social justice.

Hes not a fan of Vance.

To be fair the Catholic church probably should wait a century or so before they start throwing stones about who someone should care about.

"Lifesite" a conservative US Catholic site had this to say before the conclave

The big picture:

Prevost has cooperated in advancing Francis’ agenda, facilitated the appointment of heterodox bishops throughout the world, and tacitly denied the traditional teaching on the episcopate.

Flashpoint:

He oversaw the deposition of the most conservative U.S. bishop (Strickland) and the appointment of a notorious liberal to one of the most prominent diocesan see(McElroy).

Takeaway:

Prevost has remained silent in the face of the great doctrinal questions of our day, and facilitated the longest-lasting legacy of Francis’ reign.

Look up Strickland and McElroy.  He's clearly progressive on some topics.
