Just because you believe people’s knowledge is limited doesn’t mean that they don’t care about US status.

As well I am quite sure NO country trusts us right now….none….nobody….worse they know by now dt is a complete sham and a fraud “negotiator”

This is a right vs left thing and there’s not much of a chance you can sway anyone on this topic.

The left is more globalist/status concerned than the right.  They may have thought Biden was embarrassing on the global stage but pretended it didn’t exist or defended it because they appreciated that he was respectful of other countries and, in return, on the surface, other countries respected us.

The right wants to re-establish America as the, singular, power in the world while also demanding other countries pick up the slack and stop asking us to subsidize their Defense and/or tap into our market without paying their dues.  When Trump gets called “daddy” by the NATO Secretary and forces every country, minus Spain, to level up.. The Right declares “America is back”.. and they don’t care if other nations burn effigies of Trump or we get more criticism from citizens of other countries.

The tariff thing is interesting because it’s a traditionally Democrat protectionist view that Trump holds, which in turn has garnered criticism from Democrats and praise from Republicans .. in part, because politics is now sport and people, aside from a core issue or two, don’t actually hold rigid views on most topics.

Due to all of this, there are two distinctly different opinions of what “being respected abroad” actually means.

Yeah.  I see more and more people attaching their identity to their party like you see with sports fans.  They delight as much in seeing the other side miserable as they do gaining power.  Luckily, this particular forum is above that.

I'm asking here but wasn't that the NAFTA agreement that Clinton put into law ? I didn't know a lot about it but at the time there was quite a bit of controversy over it but I can't remember any of the particulars, alls I do remember is that there were some that were very unhappy with what the bill did as far as trade between our country's .

It hurt manufacturing, for sure.  The plan was to better educate the populous and to make the economy more of a device one - which it is.  Some people do get left behind because they don’t get their education.  They now mostly vote Trump.

US Core Inflation Rate is at 2.79%, compared to 2.78% last month and 3.42% last year. This is lower than the long term average of 3.67%.

Don’t forget!

Core goods is not the same as core, FYI.  Don’t forget!

The difference is respecting your boss while ***** his wife behind his back, and respecting John Jones because you better do so.

During his 1st term, 45 renegotiated the NAFTA and the replacement trade agreement is known as the USMCA.  (It's essentially NAFTA 1.1)

And it seems that 47 would like to get modifications to that as well which if those happen will make the new agreement essentially NAFTA 1.2.

Forgetting  the Jewish issue in Germany for just a moment, in 1937, much of Europe liked or tolerated Hitler. There was little fear, little thought of expansionism, a lot of talk about how terrible the world treated Germany, how they were taken advantage of for years by those around. Most people and governments thought the talk was just over ambitious talk, meant to get attention, sympathy, play to his supporters etc. Pundits laughed, criticized, explained, then the real agenda suddenly burst on the scene, friendly Austria is invaded, elections end, government institutions disappear after a couple of years of eliminating key judicial procedures, redicule of the opposition, key alliances signed with certain countries, grievances with closest friends created

Fast forward...2026.....

So, the country of cartels gets a pass for 90 days, but Canada gets hit by 35% tariffs for being a fentanyl threat. Wow.

So Canada has terrible leadership according to trump, because we didn't bow.

So the US wants to pay more for goods they need or want from Canada, so be it. If another GM vehicle is never sold in Canada, who cares. If US has to pay more for oil, who cares, if US farmers never see another bag of potash, who cares. If Hersey never sells another chocolate bar in Canada, who cares.

When CUSMA is due in 26, that will end anyway. If housing is hurt with Canada softwood lumber exiting the market, who cares. No aluminum who cares.

Maybe Canada should just let the fentanyl flow, who cares.

trumps goal is 51, weaken economy of Canada and then try to exercise control. That we care about.

There is no desire by trump to get a deal. We know that.

Other nations pretty much are compelled to "tolerate" leaders of other nations. The other option is to attack them, so I'd say the ENTIRE WORLD "tolerated Hitler" until they didn't.

But really, you make it sound like you were there, or have some inside info.
