McD’s defense is not clutch

Ok so let’s nitpick the offence when they get 34 points and over 500 yards on the road in bad conditions. (Including 2 missed field goals and horrible officiating)

Can never criticize St Mcdemotts defence right, they were clutch again in the 2nd half and couldn’t do much more..

Defense was horrible in the second half lol.

Turnovers continue to be the second most important stat in football, whether you call it nitpicking or not.

Sean McDermott's defensive system is built to prevent big plays,  confuse the QB and force offenses to gradually work the ball down field.

-  It usually works against young/crappy QBs, because they are easily confused and suck.  That's how we build up our stats and high rankings every year.  It doesn't work against the top guys in the NFL (especially in the playoffs).

-  It works really good when we have a big lead, because teams have no choice but try and make plays downfield.  That is pretty much the only time we force turnovers, is when we are already piling it on.  It doesn't work well when teams are able to be patient and mix in the run game.

-  It ALWAYS FAILS in big moments...especially in overtime, because the 2-minute drill is purposely constructed to beat this kind of defense.  Routes are quick, underneath and to the sideline.  Not pushing the ball downfield in big chunks.

Over and over, Brandon Beane has poured resource after resource into building a defense that perfectly fits McDermott's desires.  Draft picks and cap space.  The most expensive D-Line in the entire NFL.  And in these situations, we continue to get NOTHING.  No pressure.  Guys wide open.  Over-pursuit and missed tackles.

The stat (0-6 in overtime) says it all.  To win in OT, you absolutely MUST have a defense that can get a stop.  And McDermott's defense CANNOT.  We have seen it again and again and again and again.

Ok so what are you trying to say here?

You said defence is terrible and collapsed, agreed.

So what exactly are you trying to argue here? Nitpick 1 INT by Josh?

Hurts had one INT and a snap exchange which resulted in a fumble.

so once again, what are you trying to argue here?

I'm arguing that the turnover was huge and contributed greatly to the loss. And a QB who has a penchant for TO's will have a lot of losses when the rest of the team isn't very good.

Yeah, and a big money move on a defensive back was certainly something the fanbase would have been happy about.

They actively re-signed Poyer - who cluelessly thought some idiot GM would give him big money.  What did they expect to get from Poyer this season?

Beane's personnel moves are underwhelming, at best.  Deonte Harty says hello.

Ive gone back and forth on letting McD go, because I really like him as a human being and believe there are no clear and obvious improvements out there, but this game solidified my belief that its time for him to go.

He simply got outcoached in the 2nd half.

One coaching staff made changes that resulted in 27 points in the second half and our defensive coordinator (head coach) had 0 answers for it. The Eagles scored on 5 of their last 6 possessions. And 4 of those last 6 possessions were touchdowns.

It was the Chiefs divisional game all over again.

Both war's Beane signed have been total useless and we saw it today on limited opportunities

He's done it twice to the Ravens and once to Mahomes. Other than that his defense has essentially rolled the red carpet out when the game is on the line.

It's all about the scheme.

We always play good against Lamar Jackson, because he's not the kind of QB that can take advantage of the holes in our zone system.  It's the same reason we always play terrible against Joe Burrow, because that's his bread and butter.  Quick, fast, underneath throws.

Patrick Mahomes struggled to play like this until about the mid-point of the season last year.  He's gotten a lot better at it since our last game.

At this point, it's pretty clear that McDermott doesn't have a curve ball.  Our defense is what it is.  The only way we beat teams like the Eagles is by Josh Allen playing totally out of his mind.  And even then, the defense probably chokes it away.

Did you literally not watch the 2nd half outside of the turnover?

Eagles went 75 yards in 3 minutes twice.

It would have made no difference if the eagles started from their own 10, 25 or the bills 30.

They literally couldn’t stop them the 2nd half and the stats prove that

For fugs sake.

Allen played out of his mind. He was magnificent.

The Eagles had 2 turnovers and won. We had 1 turnover and lost.

This game is on the defense - Not Allen.

Poyer came crawling back because he had no market, was relatively cheap, was a locker room leader, knew the system etc.

I thought we could do worse than bring him back. Like playing Hamlin, who is actually horrible.

But he’s shot.

and Harty was a complete whiff. No arguments here. Lots of blame to go around on the personnel side imo.

He would have won player of the week if MCDs D didn’t choke but buddy wants to talk about one INT
