Chiefs Offense: Good Analysis of their Use of the 1-4 Set

The play at 4:45 is ridiculous. What the heck is the Jags defense doing on this play? They are triple maybe even quadruple covering MVS. They don't have a single player on Kelce.

Would love to see Diggs lined up as the single high 1 on these sets. Cook, Davis, Knox and Kincaid making up the 4 to the other side. Sprinkle in Harty and Sherfield in packages.

It’s basically 10 personnel and that can be countered with 8 back.  We tried it against the Steelers two years ago and got torched by them as they had the up front pressure.

There really is no magic bullet in terms of personnel formations.

It is cat and mouse, measure/counter measure.   The Bills allowed the Steelers to pass rush all day in that game but not committing anything to the run game...15 runs by RB's but 51 passes.    People love to forget how much Dabol got (and deserved) criticism at times.  This was one of his worst games calling plays.   The Steelers just pinned their ears back and rushed, no need to read run/pass on most plays.

Bills should have hired Bienemy. Would have been an all time power move.

Did you not hear the whatever named team this week a few weeks ago we’re not responding to Bienemy well and Rivera had to come to his defense.  There were also rumblings of the same at the Chiefs.

It may have been nothing, but Dorsey hasn’t even started year 2 yet.  The above poster makes good comments on how Daboll used to draw a good deal of criticisms when he was our OC.

It’s amazing that teams don’t simply tag 1 guy to follow Kelce around and then shade to him as well. Instead you think it’s good to simply leave him wide open? You forget he was on the field and Mahomes looks to him every time? Jesus.

The part that really angers me is look at that pocket for Mahomes. Notice he’s not running for his life as soon as the ball is snapped. One team prioritizes their QB, the other doesn’t. Unreal.

I appreciate the post and the thread!  I didn’t realize the dilemmas posed by this specific formation.  I think this also provides some additional support to McDermott’s coverage schemes.  That regular season win in KC was no joke.  Great Defense by the Bills and a baited pick to end it.

NFL offenses are where defenses were 6-7 years ago. clinging to life from the old and past looking to develop new systems, concepts, etc.

the speed of todays nfl athletes and ability has long surpassed many simple concepts.

concepts that modern nfl head coaches are developing are doing really good things.

One of the worst offenses on one of the worst franchises were complaining??? 😂

Dude has little Sam Howell looking like a legit nfl starting qb. Imagine what he could do with Allen and the KC concepts.

and Dorsey may turn out to be a great OC. But it is a huge gamble for a SB contender to make a first time OC their guy.  Dorsey is extremely lucky he had Allen because he would have struggled to keep a job with a lesser qb.
