This is really getting out of hand with these young athletes. These D-1 colleges need to do regular heart monitoring of their student athletes.

All athletes starting in MS have to have an annual physical. That physical does not include any sort of cardiac screening apart from a pediatrician and a stethoscope, at least in the states I'm intimately familiar with. That's somewhat insane to me.  Pre-COVID we had an outside organization volunteer to come in and do a proper heart screening for all of our middle school athletes and for anyone else in the school who wanted one.  Unfortunately they are no longer operating.

Don't have any data to back this up. But it seems like in the last 10-15 years(not in anyway saying anything to do with covid or vaccine) this has been happening more and more in younger people. Is it just easier access to information making it seem like it's happening more or is it actually happening more.

HBO's Real Sports did a segment on this.  It appears to be a common problem that isn't discussed enough.  This happens about twice a week, about 100 times a year.  Here's a 2.5 minute part of that segment.  The point of the story was to say that every place where there is sports activity needs to have a defibrillator on hand so that when someone goes down they can get immediate care.

Report offers update on Bronny James’ health
By Steve DelVecchio

Bronny James suffered a cardiac arrest on the USC practice court Monday, and his recovery seems to be trending in a positive direction.

James, the 18-year-old son of LeBron James, was rushed to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles and admitted to the intensive care unit after he collapsed during practice. Doctors determined he had suffered a cardiac arrest. A statement from the James family on Tuesday said Bronny was in stable condition and had been moved out of the ICU.

On Wednesday, TMZ reported that James is progressing well enough that LeBron and his wife Savannah, Bronny’s mother, are feeling “relieved” and “optimistic.” Bronny is said to be doing much better as doctors work to determine the cause of his cardiac arrest.

Likely a combination of easy to obtain substances they shouldn't be taking, overtraining without proper rest and potentially undiagnosed medical conditions exacerbated by those two.
