Oh what do they know.

112 former SCOTUS clerks agree: Clarence Thomas' integrity is "unimpeachable"

August 30, 2023

FTA:

“The Justice is ever the subject of political headlines taking aim at his character, his judicial philosophy, his marriage, even his race,” the 112 signatories wrote in an open letter obtained Tuesday.

“Lately, the stories have questioned his integrity and his ethics for the friends he keeps. They bury the lede. These friends are not parties before him as a Justice of the Court,” the former clerks continued. “We all saw with our own eyes the same thing: His integrity is unimpeachable. And his independence is unshakable.”

The letter hearkened back to Thomas’ humble beginnings in the segregated Georgia of the 1950s and his lineage as a descendant of West African slaves. They argued that the story of the justice’s rise “should be told in every American classroom, at every American kitchen table, in every anthology of American dreams realized.”

Well, I'll post a similar article that shows there was no quid pro quo.

You can keep quoting the paid smears re: plane rides and vacation stays, but,

There is NO story that has ever shown where Justice Thomas was influenced towards any court decisions

None, nada, zip.

New Financial Disclosures Contradict ProPublica Smear Operation Against Clarence Thomas

The new financial disclosure filed by Justice Thomas Thursday delivers a rebuke to activists’ smear campaign.

Democrats have kept the knives out for Clarence Thomas since his 1991 confirmation to the nation’s highest court. The mere existence of a prominent black conservative has offended leftist sensibilities for decades and has placed a target on the judge for his entire career.

Some of the most relentless attacks on Thomas’ integrity have come from left-wing media outlets that malign the justice with contrived scandals, free from any factual accountability for their smears. But now, a new financial disclosure from the current court’s longest-serving justice should leave those activists embarrassed.

In April, far-left activists at ProPublica launched the latest smear campaign against Thomas, misrepresenting financial disclosure rules to frame the conservative justice as beholden to billionaire interests. The investigative paper’s grand revelation? That Justice Thomas has a rich friend.

The ProPublica report took issue with Justice Thomas for not disclosing repeated travel with the billionaire real estate developer on his private plane, yacht, and at his private lodge. But the undisclosed travel with Crow that ProPublica highlighted in the report took place before disclosure rule changes were implemented for the Supreme Court in March of this year. Thomas didn’t have to send out an itinerary to ProPublica, or anyone else, for approval.

That hasn’t stopped partisans who’ve turned a blind eye to similar ethics complaints against Thomas’ left-leaning colleagues from conveniently deciding the justice’s long-time relationship with GOP megadonor Harlan Crow is problematic. Earlier this month, five House Democrats even sent a letter to Attorney General Merrick Garland demanding an investigation into Thomas’s relationship with Crow.

The New York Times piled on the attacks against Thomas with excessive coverage of the manufactured scandal.

{snip}

On Thursday, however, the justice applied the new rules retroactively in a sign of good faith. Thomas’ attorney Elliot Berke accompanied the new financial filing with a six-page statement.

“Over the course of his 44 years in public service in all three branches of government, Justice Thomas has always strived for full transparency and adherence to the law, including with respect to what personal travel needed to be reported,” Berke said. “Justice Thomas’s amended report answers — and utterly refutes — the charges trumped up in this partisan feeding frenzy.”

The latest report discloses four trips in 2022, three of which were conferences where the justice spoke as a featured guest.

The justice’s latest filing fails to offer ProPublica or The New York Times any of the scandalous revelations that each paper clearly hoped for.

Clarence Thomas Secretly Participated in Koch Network Donor Events

“On Jan. 25, 2018, dozens of private jets descended on Palm Springs International Airport. Some of the richest people in the country were arriving for the annual winter donor summit of the Koch network, the political organization founded by libertarian billionaires Charles and David Koch. A long weekend of strategizing, relaxation in the California sun and high-dollar fundraising lay ahead.

Just after 6 p.m., a Gulfstream G200 jet touched down on the tarmac. One of the Koch network’s most powerful allies was on board: Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas.

During the summit, the justice went to a private dinner for the network’s donors. Thomas has attended Koch donor events at least twice over the years, according to interviews with three former network employees and one major donor. The justice was brought in to speak, staffers said, in the hopes that such access would encourage donors to continue giving.

That puts Thomas in the extraordinary position of having served as a fundraising draw for a network that has brought cases before the Supreme Court, including one of the most closely watched of the upcoming term.

Thomas never reported the 2018 flight to Palm Springs on his annual financial disclosure form, an apparent violation of federal law requiring justices to report most gifts. A Koch network spokesperson said the network did not pay for the private jet. Since Thomas didn’t disclose it, it’s not clear who did pay.”

LMAO

Feel free to ignore Billsy's frantic attempts.

I asked a few months ago if anyone could cite even ONE ruling that Justice Thomas had made that was not consistent with his whole career.

He has NOT been influenced. You know it.  They know it. but they will continue to throw spitballs.

It's all they have got.

Not that facts matter to Bonnie and the Cult - but yes, there has been business in front of the Court that directly impacted the interests of his benefactors.

Judicial record undermines Clarence Thomas defence in luxury gifts scandal

Clarence Thomas’ billionaire ‘personal friend’ who took him on private jets and luxury vacations did have business in front of the Supreme Court

So, Bonnie, let's get this straight. Clarence Thomas can accept gifts from anyone and everyone - yet, the MAGA Cult is impeaching the Biden for allegedly doing the same thing?

You can't square this.

Thank you for confirming that his vote was not changed, per your Guardian article.

End thread.

You clearly didn’t read the articles.

And again - you can’t minimize Clarence Thomas’ unethical behavior and brazen corruption and then go after Biden.

Boy you aren't kidding.

I will be nice and answer him this once.

Perhaps you could point out in the article where it does show that Justice Tomas is "conflicted" or his vote was influenced.

All it does it keep regurgitating that he is friends with Mr. Crow, who is linked to a business that was involved in a Supreme Court case.

What million dollar business hasn't been ?

And of course There is absolutely   NO reference to his vote being changed  (as I stated)

But please, come back with your shallow insults and faulty reasoning. . . . . . . . .it's so you.

Awe, Bonnie is having a meltdown because she thinks all those extravagant gifts bought NOTHING.  Citizens United is LAUGHING HARD AT YOU.

Bonnie can't stand that this thread exists because it highlights his/cults' hypocrisy that it is ok for Clarence Thomas to accept bribes and gifts; but Hunter Biden can't.
