A Johns Hopkins study says 'ill-founded' lockdowns did little to limit COVID deaths

The researchers say lockdowns had no noticeable effect on COVID mortality and had a "devastating effect" on economies and social ills.

Researchers at Johns Hopkins University have concluded that lockdowns have done little to reduce COVID deaths but have had “devastating effects” on economies and numerous social ills.

The study, titled “A Literature Review and Meta-Analysis of the Effects of Lockdowns on COVID-19 Mortality,” said lockdowns in Europe and the U.S. reduced COVID-19 deaths by 0.2 percent.

Shelter-in-place orders were also ineffective, reducing COVID-19 mortality by 2.9%, the study said.

“We find no evidence that lockdowns, school closures, border closures, and limiting gatherings have had a noticeable effect on COVID-19 mortality,” the researchers wrote in the report, issued Monday.

This is so disgusting

"We need you to forget we ruined your lives and broke the country.  We offered no words of comfort or optimism.  I actually threatened and yelled at you.  Divided the country.  Constantly moved goal posts.  Said one thing then did another.  Belittled you.  Bullied you.  Lol we even censored the science and scientists we didn't like. Made these protocols essentially indefinite.  And by the way Putin sucks go America!"

Nearly half of President Joe Biden’s 500 million free COVID tests are still unclaimed.

Because we don’t ***** care or fear “the reaper” any longer.  If I get Covid I’ll load up in Kleenex, Theraflu and go on.

Funny since CA ended they mask mandates in public the only people wearing masks at the gym are young people.  And the average age at this gym is 120.  We’re done and we’ve moved waaaaay on.

Funny you mention that Chef. I’ve noticed the exact same thing. I go to a gym in San Bernardino County that hasn’t required masks in months and another one in LA County that only dropped them a week ago but in each case the two groups that appear to be clinging to the masks are young people and Africa Americans. It’s no scientific study but it’s definitely the case.

15 DAYS TO SLOW THE SPREAD:

Public Health Erred on the Side of Catastrophe.

Lockdowns and other mandates weren’t the exclusive driver of many of the various harms I’ve described; general fear of the virus also contributed to some of them. However, it should also be noted that public health officials—and media that overwhelmingly emphasized negative stories—whipped up a level of fear that led people to overstate the level of danger actually posed by the virus.

There’s one more way in which characterizing lockdowns and other mandates as “erring on the side of caution” plays a psychological trick: Since the phrase is embedded with the notion of good intentions, it conditions citizens to be forgiving of the bureaucrats and politicians who imposed them.

Note, however, that in most everyday usage of “erring on the side of caution,” the choice to “err” is made voluntarily by individuals who bear the consequences of their own decisions—or by others, like an airplane pilot or a surgeon, to whom we’ve voluntarily and unmistakably granted control of our well-being.

The grim impacts of lockdowns and other mandates, however, were coercively imposed on society, to say nothing of the fact that so many of the edicts represented gross usurpations of power and violations of human rights.

On top of all that, the edicts were reinforced by Orwellian censorship and ostracism leveled at those who dared raise questions that have now proven valid.

So make no mistake: Overreaching public health officials and politicians—and the journalists-in-name-only who served as their mindless, unquestioning megaphones—have fully earned our withering condemnation. Indeed, holding them accountable is essential to sparing ourselves and future generations from repeating this dystopian chapter of human history.

IT’S AS IF THEIR ACTIONS ARE DRIVEN BY THE POLITICS OF THE MOMENT, AND NOTHING ELSE:

“Several people said they felt whipsawed as Democratic mayors and governors who once championed safety measures as a public good and emblem of civic virtue now seemed ready to turn the page on a pandemic that, while easing, is still killing more than 1,000 people every day across the United States.”

If unvaccinated adults are still dying that's their choice. Vaccines have been widely available for a long time, the rest of us move on.

Who is feeling "whipsawed"?  People who got the vaccine and are protected from severe illness/dying?  Who can further protect themselves by doing all the things they did before to stay safe?  Dumb.

Newsflash!  The unvaccinated likely moved on a long time ago.  🙄
