Straw man.
How about the real world: class trip of 6th graders to NYC. Trip to the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Do you send and advance team to check out which galleries include depictions of naked bodies and rush the kids past them without allowing them to peek in?
Because that’s what this moronic school is doing.

Well, they follow the Hillsdale model.  That says it all.  Ever get one of their ridiculous, biased "surveys" on Facebook?

It’s not that simple.
Let’s say I want to make some educated guesses about random people. This is demography, not stereotyping. And of course every group includes exceptions to the rule:

- you are white without a college degree: you probably voted for Trump

- you are white with a college degree: you probably voted for Biden

- you are black of any educational bracket: you probably voted for Biden

- you are white and live in an exurban or rural/small town area: you very very likely voted for Trump

- you have a professional degree: you very very likely voted for Biden

- you attend an evangelical Christian church: you very very likely voted for Trump.
- you are Hispanic of Mexican ancestry: you probably voted for Biden.  Of Cuban ancestry: you probably voted for Trump

The old days of “the wealthy vote Republican, the poor vote Democrat” are over.

Trump is a wrench in the whole thing true, but over 200k HHI are 60/40 republican.  It’s just the way it is. Folks need to stop pretending college educated means something.

I’ve met phds who are idiots and dropouts who are geniuses.

I work in a Tech industry with mostly masters and doctorates in various high end engineering and business degrees … they mostly held their nose and voted for trump over Hilary at least. Nobody really likes to admit what they did for the last election

when is the last time either of you tried to understand where anyone with different opinions is coming from.

Desantis war on LGBTQ is literally as I’ve read it barring sexually charged content in public elementary school classrooms. So sure it’s a populist move, but it’s it a hate crime? Is there some pragmatism to allowing people who wish the ability to shield their kids from that until older?

DeSantis war on LGBTQ is literally just a craven political ploy and has absolutely nothing to do with protecting kids.

For some reason, “conservatives” seem to support government censorship now.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with parents talking to their kids about what they should and shouldn’t read. And there’s nothing wrong with getting involved in your school system to ensure the curriculum is appropriate.

But that’s not what is happening here. This is the state censoring anything that is remotely related to LGBT or doesn’t fit the narrative of the powers in charge. Conservatives should abhor this. The fact that they embrace it just demonstrates that traditional American conservatism is dead.

I don’t care about that one or sixth graders. my reference is to the over sensationalism of don’t say gay… (which is political extrapolation to the nth degree)

the one you cite is  clearly a different set of facts.  On its face it sound unreasonable.

Hmm Chi I’m now guessing you to mid 20s?

Conservatives have always been on the side of censorship… it’s only very recently the the liberals are actually out censoring conservatives.

it’s new.

I was squarely on the elon musk public square free press side of censorship myself, until (1) extreme liberals start pushing it beyond what is appropriate in even my view and (2) they censored vaccine  mandate challenges and unfavorable political stories particularly in msm and in one sided fashion.

We all know what fox is, but the polar opposites seem a little less transparent about their bias, no?

I’m older than that. And I’m old enough to see that Elon doesn’t understand free speech.

And none of that changes the fact that DeSantis is not trying to protect kids from sexual content. He’s scaremongering for political gain and the gullible are buying it hook, line, and sinker.

Unless, of course, you think a book about two penguins adopting a baby penguin is sexual somehow.

Elon understands a whole hell of a lot more than people credit him for. 10 years ago he would have been considered super liberal doing and living exactly how he does today.

Of course desantis is moving politically but he won in a landslide and perhaps these move reflects his base’s wants-  To leave the morality of sexuality out of the public classroom.

If someone has very traditional values and is morally opposed to certain sexuality, is it not their right as parents to maintain that ideology with their children? When those kids become adults they can choose their own path, but parents Should be over ridden by some elementary Ed teacher with their own agenda?

Then homeschool your kids and watch as they’re completely unadjusted to society when it’s time to fly the nest.

It is their right to teach their kids as they see fit. It is not their right to have the government tell me how to teach my kid.

And I will not cede that this is about sex at all. Unless you think about sex when you see two male penguins. But I guess that’s on you.

I do not think this type of anecdotal "evidence" is very helpful. I could counter that I am in a science department in a university in otherwise very conservative West Texas, and most of my fellow faculty members lean moderately Democratic.

I think they do.  The Republican party, as you pointed out is binary or even 3D.  The core for trump and likely desantis is the non college white male and to a lesser extent, the non college white female.  These are the folks, that I refer to as MAGA's that still believe the election was stolen and that Jan 6 wasn't at least encouraged by trump.  To them, this is a rallying cry, sadly.

Fair, can this homeschooler opt out of funding  the school system then??

they aren’t telling you what to do, just what the public school shouldn’t. Do you have kids? It’s a perspective changer.

You won’t ‘cede’ to try to understand that other people have rights to have different opinions. And rather than try to understand and problem solve… castigate and demonize.

show me the legislation referring to penguins-  Is that really enumerated in legislation?

right to really draw crisp lines here

the republicans are effectively the majority of the successful college educated, and majority of the less educated whites.

the democrats are effectively the majority of the unsuccessful college educated, and majority of the less educated non whites.

I thought he was a total lost cause too. But he might have more to him than I thought. Politics aside, his resume is notable. Not sure if it was due to connections and favors or if there is something real.

No, a homeschooler can’t opt out of funding a public school. Schools are there for the public and you can feel free to utilize them. If you decide not to, that’s on you.

You are repeatedly misconstruing my argument and I’m not sure if it’s intentional or what. My entire point is that people can have different views on how to raise their kids. But it’s not the government’s job to enforce one set of beliefs on all kids.

My son’s bookshelf is very different from his cousin’s. And that is fine!  I don’t think the government should tell my brother what books are appropriate for his kid, and I don’t think it should tell me which are appropriate for mine. That’s our choices as parents.

Florida school district bans book about real-life gay penguin relationship, citing Parental Rights law

Lake County Schools cites Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis law that prohibits classroom instruction on sexual orientation or gender identity to kindergarten through 3rd graders

A Florida school district banned a book about a real-life same-sex penguin couple from classrooms and school libraries.

The award-winning 2005 children's book, "And Tango Makes Three," tells the story of a real-life same-sex penguin couple that creates a family together.

Lake County Schools located in Florida told Fox News Digital on Monday that the book violates Florida law on teaching about sexual orientation or gender identity to kindergarten and third-graders.

"We removed access to ‘And Tango Makes Three’ for our kindergarten through third-grade students in alignment with Florida HB 1557, which prohibits classroom instruction on sexual orientation or gender identity for those grade levels," Sherri Owens, the Lake County Florida communications director told Fox News Digital.

The banning of the book stems from Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis' education legislation he signed into law last year. Florida House Bill 1557 "Parental Rights in Education," which was dubbed by critics as the "don't say gay" bill. The law bans teachers from giving classroom instruction on "sexual orientation" or "gender identity" in grades kindergarten through third grade.

"And Tango Makes Three" is one of several books that have been removed from schools after DeSantis and state Republicans passed legislation on restricting instruction on critical race theory and gender theory.

Public records obtained by another outlet through the Florida Freedom to Read Project revealed that two other books were banned, citing the Parental Rights in Education Act.”

People who paint with a broad brush tend not to be very good painters.  People who make broad assumptions about demographics groups tend not to be very smart.

Well actually people who understand the definition of the word demographics wouldn’t then say the other stuff here. It’s self incriminating 🤷‍♂️
