It’s pretty much a children’s primer on critical race theory, which we were assured hasn’t escaped out of the Law School laboratory to become infectious in the wild.

 

The children’s show is basically the Omicron variant of the mind virus.

 

It’s par for the course for liberal activists to make such sweeping and questionable claims, and they find a ready audience in children who have yet to develop the base of knowledge and critical thinking skills to evaluate the claims.

 

Children’s programming from back in the dark ages aimed to reduce prejudice and build up a positive set of social norms, encouraging children to be better people and making the world a happier place. This kind of programming aims to gin up anger and resentment as if pounding into kids’ minds the idea that they are victims and their fellow citizens their oppressors.

 

The aim is to produce activists, not better people. It is about turning children into political weapons.

 

Ideas like this are not appropriate for the age range of Disney’s intended audience. I actually think that discussing such ideas in history or philosophy classes, as part of a larger debate about moral issues, responsibility, and alternate views of justice would be perfectly appropriate. A civics class that looks at controversial issues and different views of moral responsibility would be a good thing, and even radical ideas deserve to be heard.

 

But not as propaganda, and certainly not aimed at young children. This is both and should be condemned.

 

Disney’s turn to activism is part of its larger problem: they just aren’t generating much good or creative content anymore. And instead of investing in new, interesting, and creative work, they produce formulaic dreck. Their Marvel movies are failing, Star Wars became execrable long ago, and the traditional Disney content is all about queering the kids and left-wing politics.

According to a challenge form submitted by Baggett on August 24, the purpose of When Wilma Rudolph Played Basketball is "race-baiting," and the book is not appropriate for any student.

In an interview with Popular Information, Baggett said the book "trashes and puts down those who are not black." She describes the book, which is a true story of Rudolph's experience, as "very anti-white."

At one point in the book, Rudolph reflects on how hard her mother worked as a maid for a white family. "There is something not right about this," Rudolph said. "White folks got all the luxury, and we black folks got the dirty work." This reflected the reality of life in Tennessee in the 1940s.

Baggett didn't dispute the book was accurate but insisted it would make white students "feel uncomfortable" because "they are being white-shamed." She said the book was inappropriate because "not all whites treated blacks like this." Baggett added that "not all blacks do drug crimes, like a lot of people say."

Critiquing Race Theory.

 

I was familiar with critical race theory long before it resurged as a culture war flashpoint. At Brown, I’d written some papers for Professor Glenn Loury tracing the development of Black Studies and associated fields, including the contributions of Crenshaw, Derrick Bell, Richard Delgado et al. They’d done some good work, among the first sustained efforts to systematize ongoing impacts of historic injustice.

 

But by the mid-2010s their once-searing insights had become frozen in time like it was forever the 1980s—that even with the federal bureaucracy and Fortune 500 on board they remained scrappy underdogs against all odds. Even as America grew vastly more diverse, old black and white categories blurring and dissolving, the systematized version insisted that little had changed.

 

At least the campus wars of the ’80s and early ’90s around political correctness had offered critical race theorists spirited pushback in the public square, encouraging them to hone and diversify their ideas. With critique verboten in the age of Black Lives Matter, they’ve become increasingly insulated, cranking out the same faded dogma even as ill-conceived schemes like cashless bail and defunding police take disproportionate toll on minority communities.

 

Whatever the latest disaster, it’s always somebody else’s fault, and further proof that ever more DEI officials and administrators are needed to fix things.

Photos showing the lynchings of African Americans in the 19th and early 20th century are some of the most troubling records of the racist history of the United States.

But these black-and-white photographs are what filmmaker Christine Turner chose to focus on for her new documentary, Lynching Postcards: 'Token Of A Great Day'.

Turner examined hundreds of these pictures and primarily focused on the ones that people who attended these lynchings sent as postcards to family and friends.

 

As the film opens, the first postcard people see is an image of a Black man hanging from a tree, but it's zoomed in enough that all that can be seen of him are his dangling feet. The focus then becomes the white men standing behind him, looking directly at the camera, with some smiling.

Turner said she did this to train the audience's eyes to focus on the participants and see their "sense of pride."

CNN — 

Carolyn Bryant Donham, the White woman whose accusation led to the 1955 lynching of Black teen Emmett Till in Mississippi – and whose role in the brutal death was reconsidered by a grand jury as recently as last year – has died in Louisiana, the Calcasieu Parish coroner’s office confirmed to CNN.

Donham, 88, died Tuesday in Westlake, according to a fact of death letter from the coroner.

Malik Shabazz, with Black Lawyers for Justice, said in a statement Thursday that Donham’s legacy “will be one of dishonesty and injustice.”

“Carolyn Bryant’s death brings a conclusion to a painful chapter for the Emmett Till family and for Black peoples in America. The tragic part about Bryant’s death was that she was never held accountable for her role in the death of young Emmett Till, who is the martyr for the Civil Rights Movement,” the statement reads.

In August 1955, 14-year-old Emmett was beaten and shot to death after he allegedly whistled at Bryant – now Donham – in Money, Mississippi.
