I'm old school, so buy into the old adage that defense wins championships. We were too one-dimensional to win the SB without some real luck. I think the Bucs would have been a bad match-up for us. Part of me is actually a little relieved - I want the team to have just a little more balance when we finally do make it to the last game. This isn't rocket science. The Browns have a better running game and pass rush then we could dream of. Those weaknesses were easily exploited by Andy. We have a perfectly good 6-5 lb who could've played man to man with Kelce. One thing I haven't seen much mention of, many Bill's fans here on this message board and other places including myself gave the Bills a real good chance to beat the Chiefs for a couple of reasons: The only team besides the Bills to win their last six regular season games was Green Bay, plus the Bills won 11 of the final 12 which no other team had done. So they were the hottest team in the league. In December they weren't just winning games, they were crushing teams. In that same time frame KC was just squeaking by in their games, not very impressive at all. For these reasons many in the national media, plus local media and certainly Bills fans gave them a good chance to beat KC Also heard some discussion from the national media as to what's wrong with KC? There were a couple of response that nothings wrong , they are just bored. Guess they were the ones that nailed it correctly! Add to that KC sat most of their starters in the last regular season game and lost, then a week bye. By the time they played Cleveland they came out kind of a bit rusty. Unfortunately for the Bills they were ready this week. Also read or heard some report that Mahomes may be getting a little tired of hearing reports that Allen has caught or even passed Mahomes. Recall on the Fox pre-game Bradshaw stated Allen is the best passer in the league or some words similar. All these things may have made the media and Bills fans more confident that the team could beat KC, but may have also helped motivate KC to play their best game in a couple of months. Success Posted January 28, 2021 Share Posted January 28, 2021 As the week rolls on, I'm starting to think that this was the best outcome. Maybe it's my rationalizing mechanism taking over. I let myself come to believe that we were better than we are - understandable given how we were in December. But facing playoff defenses like the Colts & Ravens, we were starting to get a bit exposed. We've seen it a few times through the years - an offense that seemed unstoppable all season getting smacked when they run into a good D in the playoffs. The 2001 Rams and 2007 Patriots come to mind. You just can't fake your way to a SB win with a middlin' defense. When all you are is a high-flying offense, you have no Plan B when that offense isn't clicking. I think we'll look back on playing the Chiefs & losing like we did as the best thing that could have happened. Beane is already on it. I say screw that, you take whatever luck you can get to win the Super Bowl, we should have been playing Cleveland in the AFC Championship but they blew it. It's OK to get lucky to win, how about the Patriots in 2019? They faced the Rams in a joke of a Super Bowl because the refs blew a call that would have sent the Saints to the final which would have been a much tougher game for them. machine gun kelly Posted January 28, 2021 Share Posted January 28, 2021 It was obvious Cleveland’s running game kept them in it. I can’t say their defense is better than ours as they finished the regular season 17th, and we were 14th. With that said, our defense played well in the Ravens game and ok with Indy. The Chiefs game was a joke for our defense. As much as I think the Chiefs are going to win, they are far more balanced than us.
