NFL Week 8 game picks: Saints nip Vikings, Rams top Packers

Bills win by 30 ... I was wondering if any of you actually read these blurbs or simply glance at the score. If Buffalo is to have a chance Monday night, and not lose by 30, three things must happen:

1) The front seven shows up like it did vs. the Vikings, Titans and Texans, producing knockdowns, if not sacks.
2) From that pressure, must come turnovers. Move Tom Brady off his all-too-comfortable perch early. He's enjoyed the creature comforts of home in Buffalo over the lengthy course of his career.
3) If LeSean McCoy can't go (concussion), pound Chris Ivory in the first quarter, with another heavy dose late. Exactly nobody loves tackling that guy. I don't even like writing about tackling that guy.

So ... James White scores thrice and the Pats win by 18.

Getting to Know Quarterback Derek Anderson and the Bills Offense | CLNS Media

By Evan Lazar

FOXBORO — As the Patriots turn the page to the Buffalo Bills (2-5) this week they’ll face another starting quarterback for their divisional foes.

Since Tom Brady arrived in New England in 2000, the Bills have started 12 different quarterbacks against the Patriots, and 14-year veteran Derek Anderson will be number 13 on Monday night.

Anderson, signed with the Bills on October 9th to backup rookie Josh Allen, and has appeared in one game for Buffalo starting last week’s loss to the Colts.

“He’s been in the league. We saw him at Carolina, saw him at Cleveland. I mean, there’s plenty of film on him,” said head coach Bill Belichick at his Wednesday press conference.

The coach then added, “I’m sure there will be some things that we’re not preparing for that they’ll do with him that may be different than what they did with [Josh] Allen.”

Last week, the Buffalo offense struggled mightily, scoring only three points and turned the ball over five times, four of which were on Anderson as he threw three interceptions and lost a fumble.

Patriots Gameplan: Why the Pats Should Run the Football vs. Bills Even Without Sony Michel | CLNS Media

By  Evan Lazar

This week’s Patriots gameplan focuses on the Buffalo Bills defense that is currently sixth in total DVOA according to Football Outsiders.

Over the last two seasons, the Bills have built a defense that’s among the league’s best.

This season, the Buffalo defense is sixth in total DVOA, fourth in yards per game, and has the fifth-best pressure percentage on passing plays in the NFL (38 percent).

The Bills, led by pass rushers Jerry Hughes and Lorenzo Alexander and second-year cornerback Tre’Davious White, have one of the best pass defenses in the league.

Buffalo has allowed only 210.1 passing yards per game (fourth) through their first seven games and is fourth in DVOA against the pass.

However, the Indianapolis Colts gave the Patriots a blueprint of how to attack the Bills defense in their 37-5 victory over Buffalo last week.

Despite having one of the league’s worst rushing attacks, the Colts ran wild over Buffalo gaining 220 yards on 5.9 yards per rush on the ground.

Keys to the Starting Lineup present by CarMax: Pats execution beats Buffalo emotion

In many ways, the Patriots (5-2) and Bills are (2-5) AFC East opposites.

New England heads into Monday night’s battle in Buffalo sitting atop the division thanks to an offense that’s rounded into form as the season has progressed through its current four-game winning streak. Bill Belichick’s team has topped 38 points in four straight games and ranks fourth in the league in points per game, thanks to its 214 points in seven contests.

The home squad in this matchup, has a borderline historically-bad offense that has scored just 81 points this season, scoring five or fewer points in three of seven games and yet to put up more than 27 in any one contest.

Patriots vs. Bills | Week 8 Preview (3:04)

The Bills' hold on a playoff spot is weakening and a date with the red-hot Patriots isn't going to do Buffalo any favors.

At 2-5, with a pretty good look at 2-6 on the horizon, the Buffalo Bills are now under a week away from the NFL trade deadline. With some veteran pieces on offense that could be used elsewhere in the NFL, Joe Buscaglia and Matthew Fairburn discuss the complexities involved with dealing a player like LeSean McCoy or Kelvin Benjamin as they navigate the second half of the season -- likely with a rookie quarterback. Plus, a quick Bills-Patriots preview and prediction, and perhaps a Bills Beat scoopy.

In this episode, Sal Maiorana and Leo Roth wonder if the Monday night game against the Patriots at New Era Field will be like so many of the other Bills-Patriots games in the 21st century, which is to say, a nightmare for the Bills.

Presser Points: Belichick - Special Attention to Kicking Game

Friday press conferences are a little different from the ones on others days. Rather than a strict focus on the upcoming opponent or aspect of the Patriots, Friday can often lead Bill Belichick down a number of directions not necessarily pertinent to that particular week but rather to football in general.

That was most certainly the case this week as the Patriots prepare for their trip to Buffalo for a Monday night matchup against the Bills.

Quote of the week “Is that new? Last year, this year, I don’t think it’s new. For all intents and purposes, they were in the Super Bowl last year. They’ve won the division ‘X’ amount of years. I’ve been in this position before. Until you beat them they’re going to be favored. That’s how it works. So we’ve got to earn every part of it.”
