MW restructuring (and CW cut)?

Recommended Posts

Apparent good news on getting Big Mike's cap number down:

http://www.buffalonews.com/editorial/20050...?tbd1004647.asp

"The Bills still have $2 million or more in potential savings they probably will create from restructuring the contract of tackle Mike Williams. That would bring them to at least $4 million under. "

Look's like Coy Wire may be next on the unemployment line, as many have speculated on TSW:

"It appears the Bills also might eventually release Coy Wire, another of their backup safeties. An escalator in his contract that went into effect this year brings his base salary from $455,000 to $1.43 million, according to union records. His release would save $975,000. "

TD's chopping away all the dead weight this off-season, gotta love it!

Would anyone shed a tear if Coy Wire was released?  What I'm hoping this does is free enough room for a Demulling signing and a trade for Shelton.

the bills certainly have enough room to accomplish both goals.......they just need to get it done..........

After last week's signings of backup quarterback Kelly Holcomb and offensive lineman Mike Gandy, the Bills had about $800,000 under the salary cap, according to NFL Players Association sources. Cutting Prioleau saves $1.25 million and puts the Bills about $2 million under.

So prior to MW restructuring or CW getting released the Bills are 2 mil under the cap as it stands today. IF MW restructures as stated above, the Bills are 4 million under. Does TD go after a couple more FA's or does he try and sign NC to a long term deal? We'll see....

From a football standpoint, no it makes perfect sense.

From a hate to see that happen to a good guy? Yeah, that would suck. Hopefully he would be willing to sign for much less and stay here. I like his ability on ST--other than punt blocks  .

Lets just hope that the cap savings will be spent wisely on the O-Line!

Then chop some more and do a little twaking and lock up Clements and McGee!

I don't see anyone else on the roster that needs to be chopped other than Lindell,

and it looks like TD's not going there.

He is a pure special teamer

Exactly why we don't need him. With starters playing a bigger role on April's STs, ST specialists are not needed - esp. when they are incapable of competently performing a role on offense or defense. And the ST contributions are still waaaay overstated IMO - people want to think he is the next Tasker but he has not even led the team in ST tackles. This year it was PP - did the Bills keep him? Last year it was Stevenson - did the Bills keep him? I think it is just silly to think the Bills would keep someone who is so incompetent at his defensive position because of what I consider average ST abilities.

won't find a better situation on another team

I absolutely concur with that. He will no longer enjoy the situation he had with the Bills of collecting a paycheck for playing in the NFL,

Bupkis. CW will find work, at a reduced salary. But he's certainly worthy of playing ST on half the teams in the league.

Are you talking about the great Coy Wire, who is so good as a ST'er, that he didn't even dress for the last game of the season? :P:lol:

What we think of Coy Wire and what management/coaches thinks of CW are two different things perhaps. I feel that if they thought they just wanted to cut him outright, they would have done so already. The fact that he is still on the team indicates that they would like to keep him and are likely trying to restructure his contract.

All power to him - as long as it isn't for the Bills I'll be happy
