Staubach had Navy service before his pro career, he would have gone 3rd pick at worst otherwise.

Unitas winning a SB is a stretch, with all the due respect to that great man.

edit:  it was a 4-year commitment for Roger, the Cowboys were allowed to grab him a year before he graduated.

I’ve seen this before, but someone also needs to do the Super Losing QBs too.

Let’s go with this...

When would you guys say the NFL turned into a passing league?

I would say 2004 when I believe it was the year they really clamped down on the illegal contact penalty and you couldn’t touch the receiver after 5 yards.

So since 2004,QBs to win

2004 Brady, 6th round

2005 Ben, 1st

2006, P Manning, 1st

2007, Eli, 1st

2008, Ben, 1st

2009, Brees, 2nd I believe?

2010, Rodgers, 1st

2011, Eli, 1st

2012, Flacco, 1st

2013, Wilson, 3rd

2014, Brady, 6th

2015, Manning, 1st

2016, Brady, 6th

2017, Foles/Wentz combo.

I went into this with an unbiased approach as I was just listing the QBs as I was thinking.

Without the rare exception in Brady, most QBs who win super bowls are drafted in the 1st round.

I say rare exception in Brady because I don’t think there will ever be a 6th round QB to win multiple Super Bowls again

Barely more 1st round picks than non-1st round picks.

Sure, but you also have to factor QB inflation into the equation. The perceived value of the position in 2018 is far greater than it was in past era’s as late as the 90’s. A lot of those 2nd round guys would have been first round picks in 2018. The fact that so many teams missed out on guys like Favre taught teams to look further at potential.

Montana is the biggest laugh for me, he led ND to a title and a very good team his Jr/Sr years and seemed NFL worthy (though not a harbinger of his career)

so they have made up for this by taking every scrub in a ND helmet at QB way way way too soon since (probably one exception i've forgotten about in that pile)

With your revised list it goes to 57% 1st round, 43% non-1st round not taking into consideration multiple counting.

late 70s with the Mel Bount/Jack Tatum rule that took away contact after 5 yards and after the Stingley tragedy took away the freedom of the secondary to club the receiver in the face and back of the neck on every play.

Losing the intimidation factor was monstrous.

Marino soon took advantage with small and fleet of foot WRs....
