From what I can remember, this wasn't the first time she gave the "let's get the hell out of here immediately" signal (~1:33 in) at the earliest possible moment to whomever was standing next to her. Normally I would feel bad for someone who appears to be in distress, not in this case, though.

I don't know if it's Parkinsons or what, but Merkel should probably step down or at the minimum take a medical leave of absence.

Tibs...yes let’s get Biden to send his son to  Turkey. That’ll turn things around. Or maybe we find another suitcase of cash lying around somewhere. Or maybe we can get our European allies to attack Turkey while wait, leading from behind on the mainland.

Fleitz is not anywhere close to the hawk Bolton is. He's gotten nothing but high marks from people I've spoken to who have worked with him. They believe this was in the works for awhile.

“The best way to skew an intelligence assessment is to limit the number of players,” said Fred Fleitz, who worked as a CIA analyst for 19 years and helped draft national intelligence estimates at Langley. He says “there is no question in my mind” that political propaganda from the dossier made it into the January 2017 assessment.

Brennan and Clapper suggested that a new indictment filed by special counsel Robert Mueller against 13 Russian nationals for interfering in the election validates their assessment.

But the indictment doesn’t go as far as the ICA. It doesn’t, for example, link the Facebook trolling gang to Putin or Russian intelligence, or to any hacking operations.

So far, the investigative evidence is not lining up with the ICA’s conclusions. That’s because “the ICA is for the most part simply a reflection of the dossier’s central findings,” Fleitz said. Congressional investigators agree the similarities are “suspicious.”

Or maybe Turkey will use their new Russsia system to test against our jets Turkey has and report findings back to the Kremlin. That's why serious foreign policy people are pissed about this. American pilots will die because of this

New North Korea constitution calls Kim head of state, seen as step to U.S. peace treaty

SEOUL (Reuters) - Kim Jong Un has been formally named head of state of North Korea and commander-in-chief of the military in a new constitution observers said was possibly aimed at preparing for a peace treaty with the United States.

</snip>

Washington had baulked at signing a comprehensive peace treaty before North Korea takes substantial steps toward denuclearisation, but U.S. officials have signaled they may be willing to conclude a more limited agreement to reduce tensions, open liaison offices, and move toward normalizing relations.

Denuclearisation talks between the United States and North Korea have stalled, although fresh talks with Pyongyang are supposed to take place this month.

North Korea has frozen nuclear bomb and long-range missile testing since 2017. But it tested new short-range missiles after a second summit with the United States in February broke down, and U.S. officials believe it has expanded its arsenal by continuing to produce bomb fuel and missiles.

The new constitution continued to describe North Korea as a nuclear weapons state.

As long as all of this happens in the next eleven years we’ll deal with it. After that we’re all toast!

Democracy suffers a silent defeat. Trump's authoritarian buddies know they just have to praise him and they can do what they like. The enemies of a free press, elections, human rights are very pleased with Trump

Turkey previously ordered about 100 F-35 stealth jet fighters from the United States, and almost 1,000 parts of the jet are made by Turkish companies. U.S. officials fear that if Turkey has both the F-35 and Russia’s most advanced air defense system in its hands, then the Russians may gain access to F-35 technology and learn how to target its weaknesses.

In late May, Kathryn Wheelbarger, U.S. acting assistant secretary of defense, said that the“S-400 is a Russian system designed to shoot down an aircraft like the F-35.”

US getting closer to a 'safe third country' agreement with Guatemala

The United States is getting closer to reaching a "safe third country" agreement with Guatemala, according to multiple US sources familiar with the negotiations.

Such an agreement would require migrants who pass through Guatemala to apply for asylum there, rather than continuing to the US. This would likely have the effect of preventing some migrants from applying for asylum in the US.

What kind of crazy talk is this? You mean that some of these asylum seekers aren't going to claim asylum if they're not allowed to disappear into the US forever before having to prove that they're actually seeking asylum?!?

Things that make you go "hmmmmm"

Guatemala president postpones Washington visit where asylum talks were planned

The government of Guatemala said on Sunday that it would postpone President Jimmy Morales’ visit to Washington as it waits for the Central American country’s top court to rule on migration measures.

The Guatemalan government said in a statement that it had “no plans to sign an agreement to convert Guatemala to a safe third country” for asylum seekers.
