Is Sean Payton done?

The last year they were good - they had a solid defense. And that defense was led by Rob Ryan, and had 3 solid lineman and a good pass rushing OLB. They have since lost the OLB (galette, pre injury), overpaid jordan by a ton, and dumped hicks to the pats. Bunkley also never came back opening a huge hole in the middle of their defense.

2014 rolls around - they add cooks in the first.. and signed byrd. and added no other talent. They need corners desperately, but went after cooks instead of a verrett or roby.

2014 2nd round pick was cut 1 year later. and we complain about CK?

Brees seems more than capable of getting by with less - yet they keep using premium resources to add weapons on O, and ignoring glaring issues on defense.

I told you 2 years ago they should of unloaded Brees. You said it would never happen & you were right. But it was very short sighted to keep him & pay him all that money when the rest of the roster was horrible.

Brees keeps butts in the seats. Plus we've reached the age where almost no good QB ever reaches FA.

Plus his last 16 games he's 38tds, 10 ints and about 5000 yards at a completion percentage just shy of 70....

So I see no way to build an argument that the money spent another way would be better even if you went into a rebuild

man a lot of people just dont believe in the word continuity. Rex goes 0-2 FIRE HIM. Payton goes 0-3 FIRE HIM!!!

It all depends on what you are interested in continuing. If you have a loser coach, continuity yields what?

Payton is going on 4 losing seasons out of the last 5. That might be something the Saint are interested in discontinuing.

Rumor has it that Payton is sticking his nose into the defensive side of the ball and it's not helping. NO is currently 31st in total defense and #3 in total offense.

If that team could ever field a decent defense again they would be tough to beat.

You must be thinking of the 2013 Saints as #4 overall defense and the 2014 Saints defense 28th in pts, 31st in yards. The 2015 Saints defense was 32nd in pts and 31st in yards and a big reason why Rob Ryan was fired mid-season last year. People were saying that the 2015 Saints had the worst ever defense in the history of the team.

If anything the GM should be on thin ice in NO!

That GM, and the Colts GM... hard to believe they have jobs.

More to it then that as Peyton has an offensive mind and background and should allow his defensive coaches to do their jobs and according to Rob Ryan he had his hands all over the defense the last few years.

Payton hired Dennis Allen to assist Rob Ryan last year and then fired Ryan and promoted Allen to DC. Allen got a lot of credit for fielding a top secondary on Gregg Williams 2009 Saints defense and I don't know why as the pass defense wasn't really all that good. 26th in yards allowed but #5 in TD's allowed. My take is that Saints defense was #3 in QB pressures that year and that helps the secondary so much.

Bottom line is that Dennis Allen doesn't look like a very good DC and with Peyton in there meddling it makes things even worse. It will be difficult to bring in an already talented NFL DC with the knowledge that the HC could interfere.

Still, i don't see the HC or GM getting fired unless the team really tanks like below 6 wins.

the saints 2009 defense was better because it had better DL, better LB, better CB play, and Sharper may be the devil but HOF safety play and often played with a lead so they could really get after the qb.

SP will be here unless he quits, and given loomis holding such trust with the bensons -- id be surprised if he gets pulled unless its pretty much forced by a TERRIBLE season
