I have noticed there are alot of guitar players on the board.

Let me take a break from trolling and start a semi-normal thread.

What kind of guitars, amps etc do you have and how did you aquire it?

Me:

1. Epiphone Les Paul Copy. Black. The two knob kind that sells new in Musician's frind for $149.00. I bought it for $80 used in a pawn shop...I love it. Very responsive.

2. Ibanez semi-hollowbody Es-335 style. Got it on sale in a mucic store new for $199. Musician Friend sells it for $299. I saw it there and had to grab it at that price. Used the "Momma Don't Know" fund. Love it, but a couple semi-dead spots in the upper frets. I have to make sure I am dead on the frets up there.

3. Marshall 80 Watt Amp (I'll bet you didn't know they made an 80 watt amp). Had a $180.00 sticker on it in a pawn shop. Traded a 20 watt Marshall, a 15 Watt Vox, A 15 Watt Crate and a Penco Acoutic on an even trade. Love it....More than I will ever need in my garage. My wife hates it.

4. 15 Watt Fender. Nice little amp- $ 40.00 in a pawn shop

5. This little effects pedal called a "ZOOM" . Paid $79 bucks in a music store. Nice toy

6. Dunlop Crybaby Wah Wah. Boght it about 30 yrs ago. I forget what I paid. It still works

7. Penco Acoustic. My daughter got pissed because I traded it in on the Marshall Amp. I went back to the pawn shop and bought it back for $20..SHE STILL NEVER PLAYS IT

Best guitar I USED to own... A guild S-100 electric. Looked alot like a Gibson SG. I had to sell it back in 1978 to buy another $175.00 car because my engine blew up

I've got a vintage Sears 1964 copy signature Miami Don Johnson model. Plays like shiite, but it's great for shoveling the driveway or clubbing penguins.

Previously mentioned:

1999 Taylor 714CE 6 string

2003 Taylor 355 Jumbo 12 string

1978 Guild D-40, sunburst finish, 6 string acoustic

1985 Jap Strat, good sound, won't stay in tune worth a damn

1974 Classical from same Village Band Wagon store were Surf got his Guild

Jay Turser McCartney Hofner bass replica - bought mostly as a wall hanger, but it actually plays pretty good. Gave my nephew a few lessons on it this past weekend.

12 string guitar from Century or Brand Names. Bridge pulled up a few inches from all the tension. Barely playable. Time for the wood pile.

Also have various percussion, just bought a nice set of congas, Alesis Q8 keyboard, Mackie PA, Peavey speakers, Tascam 4 track, Boss digital 4 track, same Zoom pedal, chorus, digital delay, several condenser and preformance mics and other crap I can't remember about.

Also have some compuer software I can't figure out.

Next up:

A decent mandolin.

At some point I'll probably swing a banjo or strap on an accordeen.

I am not any good, but I strum every now and then.

1. Guild Madiera - 1973 folk guitar (got it from Buzzo's) - great playing guitar with about 5,000 hitchhiking miles on it. I am amazed it still plays after the abuse it has seen.

2. Gretsch - bought from a friend in the early 70's for $15. It is a lower end model I believe used by students and poor hippies. :D

Details:

Gretsch Model 6186

Hollow Body Electric

Clipper Sunburst

Serial Number 37835

Manufactured about 1960 per the following research

1958 Clipper introduction specs:

16" wide, 1 3/4" deep body

1 pickup with slothead screw poles and oval cutout in cover

adjustable ebony bridge

trapeze tailpiece

double bound top and back

24.5" scale length

dot fingerboard inlays

sunburst finish (6186)

Fret Markers

Starting in 1958, almost all models switched to the "Neoclassic" markers, also called "thumbnail" or "half moon" markers, and these remained fairly standard through the '60s and '70s on most models. Bargain models used simple dot markers.

Electric Guitar Pickups

Single-coil HiLoTron pickups introduced in 1961 were used on various Gretsch models, this conflicts with the estimated of manufacture date of my guitar

The Bridge

The Clipper used a plain wooden bridge, but the mid- and upper-level models were found with a wide variety of bridges.

The Tailpiece

The simplest Gretsch hollowbodies, such as Clippers, used a very simple trapeze tailpiece.

Serial Number Logo

From about 1949 to 1957 watch for a white rectangular label that reads:

Fred Gretsch Mfg. Co.

60 Broadway, Brooklyn 11, N.Y.

Model ________

Serial No.__________

Musical Instrument Makers Since 1883

Beginning in about 1957 a new label was introduced, which lasted until about 1965. On this one, "The Fred Gretsch Mfg. Co." was printed in black on an orange shape that vaguely resembles a musical note. This was superimposed on a gray over white label.

Serial Numbers

1949 to 1965 Gretsch Serial Numbers. Serial numbers are stamped in ink on the inside, visible through the sound holes.

Serial Numbers in the range 34000 to 39000 were manufactured in 1960

Estimated Value

Based on a 1959 Clipper - $600-$700

I have seen Clippers from 1961 to 1966 listed as high as as $1,200 at retail selling price on web catalogs.

First guitar - circa 1964 Sears Silvertone accoustic - A piece of junk -junked it appropriately enough

Second guitar - Epiphone accoustic (model # long since forgotten) circa 1968 bought new at a local misic store for about $125. I still own it. It has a minor crack in the top that may be in the finish only. It's rather heavy for an accoustic, which may be why it's been so durable.

Just bought Rogue herringbone accoustic electric online in December. I love the sound and playability. Paid only a little more than I did for My Epiphone 37 years ago.

Bought a Kustom 30 watt accoustic amp online for about $150 to go with the Rogue. Other than some annoying "pops" when I move around too much or go to turn it off, it works just fine and gives me the extra volume I wanted for playing in church.

I built and painted my own (1-3/4" thick maple) body, slapped-on a neck with a reverse explorer head and ebony fretboard, put in a humbucker (forget the name, some small brand named after some guy, but it's a good pickup), and a Floyd Rose. Have a Peavey tube amp.

I plan on building another and have the neck (same kind as above) and an EMG-81 pickup. This time I'm going to glue a mahogany top onto a maple body, with the idea that the neck bolts-onto the maple for sustain, and the pickup mounts onto the mahogany to add some warmth. Don't know what, if any, tremolo system I'll use. And I hope to get a Marshall half-stack, or maybe build a cab and buy a head if I'm feeling adventurous.

1985 Jap Strat, good sound, won't stay in tune worth a damn

...I bet that I could fix it with a guitar tuner, and a couple of screwdrivers.....

241236[/snapback]

I believe you played it a couple of years ago. I think it was you that broke it (bastard)!!! I'd send it to you to fix, but I don't want it coming back to me with flower power and peace stickers all over it.

Well Hogboy, I have a "starter" guitar of sorts...it's a Harmony and it cam ewith the amp and bag. When I went to Alfred, a lot of my friends were in bands, they playe dat the local bars and at parties. I tooled around with theirs a little bit and have always carried a desire to learn; so I bought myself this one, and there it sits in the corner; still needing a tune. SOMETIME before I retire, I will learn how to play, so I have 27 some odd years left to make my investment pay off :D

That's the same kind of guitars used by my favorite band ... Los Straitjackets. I love that band. You probably know of them. That git must sound great!

i got my first electric guitar, an Ibanez Dana II, at a pawn shop in fla. you can definitely negotiate. sometimes going back a couple times until you get the price you want (so long as someone else doesn't buy) can get you a great deal.

just gotta know what you're buying cuz sales are most often final.

A fairly plain, black, strat-shaped Charvel that I bought back in my metal days because it looked like Kirk Hammet's ESP and a small Peavey Stereo Chorus amp. The guitar is nothing special but the action is reeeaaaal smooth.

I used to have a fairly large Carvin amp but sold it to put towards a mountain bike.

All this talk is making me want to start playing again. :D
