The crux of the problem is that they carry a KO specialist in addition to Carpenter. In order to justify that Carpenter needs to be lights out. There's nothing they can do now to improve the position but I seriously doubt Carpenter is on the roster next season.

Excellent points, and this is where the discussion needs to begin and end. There is no in-season solution for Carpenter's accuracy issues; it is what it is and I'm certain the Bills will be looking to upgrade in the offseason.

Very good points. If we get mathematically eliminated soon, I'd like to see Gay handle all the kicking duties, just to see how he performs.

This is a good idea. We saw how bad Carpenter was on KO's without Gay. Let's see how Gay does on FG's. He did ok in preseason, I'd like to see him get some real game opportunities before we cut both guys.

I agree and to go one further all of our kickoffs should be touchbacks.

You do realize that shorter higher kicks are sometimes what the coach calls for, right? If you disagree with the decision that's ok, but don't assume that just because a kick is returnable it's a poor kick.

Of course I do... How about no kickoff is returned past the 20 yard line. Does that work?

I missed the memo on fans having to solve a problem they are pointing out. Maybe he has a job and life to live and hasn't compiled a list of available free agent kickers. Isn't that Doug's job?

Isn't it also Doug's job to decide to can a player?

Look at the date of the post. Back then, it would have been easier to do so.

Like who?

Fact is there really hasn't been anyone out there who would be an upgrade over Carpenter who has obviously struggled but has also had success kicking in the Northeast late in the season.

My point is suggesting they should cut a starter without suggesting or even looking at alternatives is kind of silly.
